I WAS SO EXCITED TO FINALLY WATCH THIS!! 🔥

And it did NOT disappoint. I feel like every Spider-Man movie just keeps reminding me why this character is one of my absolute favorites in the MCU no matter who is playing Peter Parker. And after everything that happened in No Way Home, I knew that this was going to be tough on my heart and sheeew it was.

JUST LET SPIDER-MAN BE HAPPY FOR FIVE MINUTES PLEASE 😭

Peter has changed so much here. Four years of living in a world where nobody remembers him, silently watching MJ and Ned move forward with their lives while he's standing still.. It's such a cruel kind of loneliness to watch because the people he loves are RIGHT THERE, but completely out of reach because of the spell. And watching him completely consume himself into being Spider-Man felt like he was definitely forgetting how to be Peter Parker. Like he convinced himself that if he can just keep saving people, maybe sacrificing that part of himself would mean something.. But it only led to darkness 😩

And bringing in THE PUNISHER was such an amazing choice. Because honestly Frank & Peter have both been shaped by enormous loss but see different ideas of justice lol. So seeing that contrast play out was entertaining. Plus it was just genuinely awesome to see Frank in an MCU movie!! Has me very ready to watch The Punisher when I finally get to it!

BUT ALSO.. Jean Grey!? I love this version of her. The mystery surrounding her sister, everything with Damage Control, the way she taps into her FULL power. I love that once again in this phase we're given a villain that isn't necessarily the real villain. It's the system that used and abused them. There's a lot here about fear, control, and how people can easily justify hurting others when they've been hurt.

But what I loved the MOST was that Peter Parker finally chose himself AND Spider-Man. A balance that's always been difficult with this poor character. Being strong doesn't mean you have to do everything alone. And Peter has always been so willing to save everyone else but forgets about himself every time in the process.. And I love that this story challenges him to recognize that he deserves to be saved as well.

I can't WAIT to see where they're taking his story next 🔥

Ok, I admit... Spider Man is one of the few movies that I mess with in the MCU... I've also played all the video games 🎮

Liam Harrold

I'll accept this as an early birthday present 😅😅 2 days early

This version Of Jean Is very unique take. In most stories Jean is taken in by Professor X from a very early age but in this universe Jean grew up to be a teenager without his Influence and in turn is much more pragmatic, Rebellious, and more rough. I’ve seen people criticize it’s out of character because it’s not her usual characterization, which is untrue. I feel the MCU’s characterization mirrors Bendis Era Jean Grey. Long story shot a Young Jean and the original x-men are pulled out of time and to the current timeline. And due to learning her future and all the good and bad This Jean becomes a lot more rebellious, cynical, and reckless until she embraces her future and who she is Which is what the MCU will likely emulate giving her a good story arc of her growing into the compassionate empathetic Jean we all know The higher ups have already stated that Jean will be the center focus of the next phase of the MCU and I think this is a great start. Can’t wait to see how she develops along with Cyclops, Storm, Professor X and the other X Men

Jacob

As someone who was critical of the prior MCU Spider man movies, and thought the tobey and andrew ones were better... Brand New Day was exactly the movie I needed. i saw it when it came out with my friends and we all loved it. One of the best MCU movies in years. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Jose Morales

I loved this movie so much. It was nice to get a Spider-Man movie that felt more friendly neighborhood like the Toby movies. Glad you enjoyed it as well.

Jojo Garlin

This is the first adaptation with the exception of one cartoon series to acknowledge that Jean has a Sister. In the comics Jean’s sister is not a Mutant like her but her children were

KJ

Looking forward to this big potatoes reaction

TheJoeKerr

My new favorite Spider-man movie. It’s crazy that you are caught up with all the Marvel Cinematic movies now. Doesn’t feel that long ago when you started Ironman. I’ll be watching this later after the trick or treaters are gone apparently in the rare Ohio town that still has it today. 😂

Howie

YES!!! Been waiting for this all week. I'm so glad you enjoyed this. I liked this movie so much I saw it twice in the theater! As usual, your write up was spot on: he sacrificed too much of himself to help people and ended up forgetting who he was. It was so satisfying to see Peter towards the end of the movie hanging out with Ned and MJ playing with Legos and just being himself. And I loved this version of Jean Grey and looking forward to see what the MCU brings for the X-Men. Looking forward to re-watching this with you and seeing all of your reactions!

Jwanie

I'm glad you got to see a little bit of Frank before getting to this movie. The actors have a long friendship; in fact both Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal actually helped each other with their audition tapes for their respective MCU roles. In a way I'd say this movie was a full-circle moment for them. Happy you enjoyed this movie as much as I did!

kaliwali

That's VERY exciting news about Jean! I loved her in this & the heavy emotions/connection from having her sister die bc of that program 😭

kaliwali

Interesting!! I loved her story in this!

kaliwali

I need to step up my office game 🤣

Chuckles1004

The Jean Grey surprise was "Amazing" When she posed as Mary Jane...Ugh. Also when Ned and Peter did the handshake, literally teared up. What did you think of Yelena? Thanks Kali. Appreciate all you do.

Liam Harrold

also you probably heard Rest in Peace patrick stewart legend

Steve Mercier

Here we motherfucking GO!!! The best Spider-Man movie yet (in my not so humble opinion). Each one has been better than the last. And Sadie Sink as Jean Grey? Fuuuuuuuuck yes.

kaliwali

I'm not familiar with Sadie Sink but she was SO GOOD as Jean Grey

Steve Mercier

Sadie Sink is best known as a character (Max) from Stranger Things, but was also in the Netflix movie series Fear Street (pretty good), and the movie The Whale (very good) with Brendan Fraser. Of all the younger Stranger Things actors, she seems to be the one with the best post-series career (perhaps for a good reason...no offense to the other Stranger Things actors, who were all pretty good in the show, but Sadie is the real deal).

Jojo Garlin

I feel like Bruce has some accountability for what happened. Everyone refers to “Smart Hulk” as Professor Hulk the persona that combined Banner with his multiple Hulk personas but since the beginning it never felt like that. It felt like Bruce just put his Mind in the Hulk’s body which has happened plenty of times in Comics and it never lasts and usually makes the connection between them worst . Bruce said he worked out the difference in Endgame but I don’t believe he actually did, I think he just burried the Hulk, if he truly worked it out, Bruce wouldn’t need to wear that device and Hulk wouldn’t have been so angry when emerging.

David Trumble

The detective is played Liza Colón-Zayas who is incredible in the FX chef show "The Bear", which, incidentally, also costars Jon Bernthal and would be an amazing series to react to. Just sayin'.

2026-11-01 19:00 They really messed up his surrounding group in these movies. They're just not good, and the characters don't add anything to it. They should have just stuck with the story of Spider-Man that people have loved for decades, instead of trying to pepper in all these extra characters and add all this useless crap to it. I don't have a good feeling about this one, and it will be the first time I'm watching it, but we'll see. Mark Ruffalo is literally one of the dumbest beings in the universe, so that's not a good omen.

Mark Ruffalo is literally one of the dumbest beings in the universe, so that's not a good omen. All right, it was okay, I guess. I definitely was won over a little bit by the classic Spider-Man cover captured in the moment in live action, that was cool. And they pretty much minimized and excised Zendaya and Ned Leeds, the TikTok Hobgoblin, so that was good. And Mark Ruffalo, very minimal role, that's great. They could just replace him with somebody like Edward Norton or something, that would be perfect. But it was a pretty decent story. I like the story of him kind of fighting between more of a spider and man. That's often a Spider-Man trope, certainly has been done in many, many varieties and ways. It was okay, it was okay. I'm not ready to go full "MCU is back," but it's all right. I mean, if they really wanted to give me something, they would have had the Human Torch in it, because Human Torch and Spider-Man are like best buds in the comics. There are some truly excellent Spider-Man and Fantastic Four crossovers, so I wouldn't mind seeing them in the future, potentially even folding in Venom in a very classic way. I really enjoyed their emphasis on Spider-Sense, which I think was severely underplayed in early Spider-Man movies, but has become really central to Spider-Man and has now featured in a number of the movies. Him having an aspect of psychic power works perfectly in the story that they created here.

As someone who has never been too hot on Jean Grey as a character from either adaptations or the comics, I really loved this take on her and they really did a great job setting her up for an awesome character arc in the future. Also not sure if anyone has mentiond, but this movie is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, he also directed shang-chi and he co-wrote & created wonder man (I highly recc it)

KJ

This was such a great movie that I agree with everything you said. But my goodness, Jean Grey is a menace. Her taking over MJ the way she did on that rooftop was so twisted. Then I remember, there's that Dark Phoenix side we've always got to worry about.

Ian YY

This movie was directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who also directed Shang-Chi. That's why the fight scenes and the POV shots are SO GOOD. I feel like what really changed for Marvel is their cinematography, from Thunderbolts to Fantastic Four and now this Brand New Day. The movie looks beautiful in general with all the colors and lighting. I think that was one of the biggest things that we lost in some of the previous movies. Also, I think this is the best performance by Tom Holland in the Spider-Man movies. I can literally see the sadness in his eyes. Sadie Sink is also PERFECT for Jean Grey. Marvel is cooking with their casting lately. I think Inde Navarrette, the actress from Obsession, is also joining Marvel.

Narutoanime16

I love how all the characters shown in this movie have had a form of loneliness or are alone like Yelena dealing with her sister's death in Hawkeye show and the Thunderbolt bolts stuff, Bruce isolating himself for years on the run and now he's lost his teaching job which took him how long to get back into again. Frank obvi has his issues and his and Peter's dynamic in this film was great anytime they argued just reminds me of anytime Frank and Matt are arguing love all the NY vigilante's hanging out. Really loved seeing Jean in this and had no idea she had a sister but she is from th comics as I've now looked up, marvel has many characters they still gotta use, some they have used better in the cartoons than the movies. This movie really felt the most like the games to me and just a true marvl thing like you have so many people just weaving in or out of the story and I get why you cant do that all the time cause it takes time to fly an actor out to set to film a 5 minute scene but I wish they'd do it more. Such a fun movie and Peter's powers evolving cause of his internal emotional state was cool tho it felt like they were teasing Man Spider and just didn't do it lol. Man Spider is thing from the 90's animated series its crazy Punisher as also involved in that story arc its wild.

Ryan Holmes

Honestly this is such a refreshing reaction for how much Horror I've had to watch this month lol

KamikazeCDN

So yeah I think you sorta clued in but this isn't the Jean Grey we knew. It's actually one of the complaints I've seen people have about this movie online - this Jean Grey isn't comic accurate, etc. I'm not really as hung up on it as a lot of others. I can understand wanting comic accuracy and on some level I agree but the MCU has often made tweaks here and there adapting characters. I think I'm just excited to have mutants in the MCU. I know we had Charles in Multiverse of Madness and technically we do have Deadpool vs Wolverine as well but this really feels like...yeah they're here. As always the Spider-Man movies deliver though, they're always a high spot in the MCU. Sadie Sink (Jean Grey) actually blew up on the show Stranger Things, not sure if you've ever watched it but you should check it out if you haven't. She was also in The Whale (2022) which is a wonderful movie. Just a great tragic drama based on a stage play that's so worth a watch. It was also Brendan Fraser's (The Mummy) big return to Hollywood as a leading man after everything that happened to him, he actually won an Academy Award for it too. There has actually been a few Punisher movies as well in the past. Obviously not related to the MCU at all, all varying degrees of quality. The Punisher (1989), The Punisher (2004), Punisher: War Zone (2006). You don't have to react to them but if you're ever wanting to see more Frank Castle they are there. I'M SO EXCITED FOR BLADE! Am I yelling? I feel like I'm yelling. lol

Chad Bushue

Kali, great reaction as always and definitely looking forward to Blade! I saw this movie twice at the theater and then here with you and noticed a couple things on my rewatches: 1) At the beginning during the Marvel logo, if you look closely after the text of Peter asking Strange to cast the spell…all the clips of Homecoming, Far From Home and Homecoming are still there but Pete is slowly disappearing from the moments 2) After Pete walks out of the hospital at the end, it cuts to Jean and then to the kid does the web thwip motion at Pete. I’ve grown to believe that wasn’t the kid doing that but Jean simply showing gratitude and a good bye to Peter before she goes up state. Then MJ flashes in between shots of Jean on the bus, leading to the end scene with Ned. So the question is, was that random cuts or are they interconnected and the film is trying to say that Jean gave them their memories back as a last gift to Peter?

Ray alford

I'm not sure if you're familiar with stranger things where Sadie Sink who plays Jean Grey got her fame but its sooo good people are mixed about the last season but you tend to see the good in movies and shows its also not very long its definitely a must watch on or off screen

Christian F

This might be recency bias but I think this is my favorite Spiderman movie out of all of them.

McShades

The reboot of the MCU X-Men movie will come out in 2028... Can't wait... I agree with what you said, the MCU is getting back on track after a few disappointments... I also can't wait to see Doomsday, it will be the last movie that Patrick Stewart was in before his passing. RIP Professor X If you ever get around to it, you'll need to get into the Star Trek franchise, Patrick Stewart was really good in the The Next Generation TV Series/Movies.

McShades

That's the advantage of only reading Batman comics growing up, I don't have a lot of knowledge of Marvel characters outside the movies, I think that allows those of us who don't have that knowledge to enjoy the movies more as we don't compare the stories to the ones told in the comics... But even if I did know all the Marvel stuff from the comics, I wouldn't want the movies to copy the exact same stories from the comics, part of the fun of watching movies is not knowing what's coming next.

Dan C

The main reason for this unique take on Jean Grey is the original villain for the movie was gonna be Shadow King. And you can definitely see a lot of his character in this interpretation. But at the time of writing there was a lot of turmoil at marvel about what direction they wanted to go, so the execs didn't want to use shadow king. Eventually they decided on Jean since they wanted to begin introducing the X-Men into the MCU. I'm guessing if they had stuck to Shadow King, this movie would have gotten a lot darker. Still a great Spider-Man movie. And I like Sadie Sink as Jean, so this is just another take on the character. I just hope they don't try to do dark Phoenix again, just give up on that dream already.

M1 Maz

This was the perfect culmination of all the Marvel stuff you've been watching lately to get to this point: - All caught up with the MCU - Watching the Defenders saga - Watched all the X-Men It's stuff like this that makes it all so worth it!

Amko Basic

I really loved a lot of the same things in this movie as you did, all the amazing side characters (especially Frank lol) and how they used them in this movie. All the stuff with ned and MJ. I even found it cool that to see Jean in the MCU, however I really really hate this version of her. She basicly killed how many people? Tried to kill MJ and peter without a second of hesitation. Then she finally got a hold of that director guy that killed her sister. Then she basicly sat him down and pointed glass shards at him and basicly didn't even hurt him at all. I think I could get past it if she actually killed the director but like this.... I will hate her character each time she shows up in the MCU in the future. This was also my least favorite spíder-man suit out of all the movies since it was not that tight fitting which they did on purpose. i personally prefer the more "artificial" look without the ears sticking out and things like that.

Kiera

The idea that this isn't "comic Jean Grey" that I've also seen is absolutely absurd. On one hand, yeah it's not the same character from 1963 on the screen. But, on the other hand, most of her "origin" (which is drip fed over decades to comic readers) is intact. The order is off and adjusted but we have: 1. Jean struggling to control her powers and finding herself in front of psychologists/psych wards. The psych wards is MCU but within the same theme. 2. Lashing out against innocent people. In the movie, it's those around the DCU building. In the comics, it's at a mall (eat your heart out, Jubilee). 3. Saving someone near death. Comic Jean failed to save her friend, MCU Jean managed to keep Spider-Man alive. Kinda spoilers but it's decades. 4. The one thing MCU Jean has in common with the Fox Jean and unlike the Comic Jean is, supposedly (so far, only one movie), no parents. Honestly, Comic Jean's parents are mostly a non factor so if anyone is truly upset about that then they are silly geese. Frankly, best introduction of Jean we've had yet.

Brandon

little easter egg, Kevin Parker (Tame Impala) was sitting on the couch during the house party scene when Loser was playing

Ned with the Sharkfire is me with Celcius! lol! Great reaction to a fantastic film, Kali! I can't wait for 'Big Potatoes' Avengers Doomsday! Have a great Halloween!🙂

Kapitány Zoltán

I really liked this movie. It's kind of an interesting take both on Spider-man and on Jean Grey, but they managed to make it good. I like how they finally showed some moment, when Spider-man doesn't hold back too much. He is one of the most powerful Marvel superhero, but so far the movies almost always portrayed him as someone who's struggling to win even against not so powerful villains. The only thing I can say against this movie is what they did with the Hulk... He was already a combined version of Banner and Hulk last time we see him. And now suddenly there is some restriction device on him? Also, he end up in an amulance after falling from a building? Nah, that was dirty. But otherwise, this was a great movie, and also a great reaction to it. :)

William

Of all the scenes I've wanted or needed in the MCU, a heart-to-heart scene between Jean Grey and Aunt May was the one scene that I never knew that I absolutly NEEDED. I will never not be able to hold back some tears during that wonderful moment. And it was "one MINT chip, one chocolate" btw. Not "lemon chip." ;)

asdasdasdas

That's so interesting about the Shadow King. Cause the Shadow King is an entity that stands in direct opposition of the Phoenix Force - the one that is retroactively bound to Jean Grey. So to have a character shift from one thing to it's direct counterpart is pretty much the biggest change possible, yet they still kept a lot of very evil parts for the character.

Alyxander Caden

You should watch the punisher show if you haven’t already, season one really builds frank and it’s a great non “super” story

Joe

I loved this movie. You mentioned the action and I noticed it even more the second time around. I think this was definitely the best depiction of what it feels like for spider man to do spider man things. There were even some nods to famous comic panels in some of the shots. This move had so many great surprises. I was not expecting Frank, Yelena, and especially Jean. I am really looking forward to meeting the rest of the MCU X-Men. If she is any indication, it will be great. And yes, the MCU has been incredible lately, with this movie, Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four. Plus, I am loving Vision Quest (I can't wait until you get to that and Agatha All Along.)

dohpam1n3

A fear street mention = day made tbh, props to you good sir.

Giancarlo Gasparin

Kali was about 2 seconds from calling it quits on the MCU. If Peter dies here, it's a wrap. Shut it down. This would be the last Marvel movie any of us would ever see on this channel. lolll

Joey Johansen

wow rental is really that much these days?! yikes... how does anyone justify renting random films at that rate? I do assume the amount is that high cause this particular film is fresh new, huge budget, and also stellar.

Irrelevance - Bjorn Vanbelleghem

The next movie is Doomsday. Haven't been thinking that for some time now. Dealing with some health issues. Also Zelda in like 5 days.

mitchhamilton64

i know before i saw this i had some worries since i thought the last two spider-man movies were disappointing but im glad this one was really good. i like that despite this being a jean grey origin-ish that it worked in the central conflict of what peter was having and at the same time felt like with the comics and animated stuff that he sometimes interacts with heroes from other comics. i will say, still my biggest complaint is the disrespect ben parker gets. i will not understand why the mcu treat him as if he didnt have a major part in peter's reason for being good and instead giving it all to may. i like her overall but just weird that theyre making it like that she carried all the weight of reason for him being him. whats funny is with sadie being announced and pics on set before release, people speculated that she was going to play mary-jane, but then people started speculating that she was going to be jean grey since the trailers showed that it was someone that could control other people, and the fact that sadie never confirmed or denied her role. if she was just playing mary-jane, why couldnt she say it? and whats funny is watching interviews try and get her to confirm it or not and her just seemingly dying trying to get through the interviews without saying anything too much.

Jonathan D

Awesome reaction Kali!!! Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the #3 highest-grossing film of all time! Avengers: Endgame is now the #1 highest-grossing film of all time for the SECOND time after James Cameron re-released Avatar in 2021.

Mister Lou

You know what's crazy? I always wondered who would win in a fight between Jean Grey and The Scarlett Witch, and they both have messed with Banner's mind, making Hulk go Bazerk. Basically making Bruce the only one who knows the answer.

Trey Goldsworthy

I’m sure a lotta people quit when Peter died in the original Ultimate Spider-man comic series.

Onno Smits

I'm glad you're falling back in love with the MCU. It was a real rough patch for me there for a while as well, but I'm also optimistic about the future! I do hope you'll go back to Moon Knight at some point, I have a feeling that one will resonate with you. Though I understand why Maz put it on the back-burner, it doesn't feel like it has a lot of connective tissue with the rest of the MCU.

Mister Lou

I've said this before, but Ned creating the Spidey Tracker App, insuring he never stopped being the Guy In The Chair..

Al Paka

Thanks a lot for watching the film without subtitles. Unfortunately, they would have given away major spoilers. We were actually worried about that on Discord! I speak from experience—I watched the film with subtitles and ended up getting spoiled because of them. :(

Al Paka

Helllooooooooooo ❤️

TheJoeKerr

What can we do to get you to play the Spider-man games Kali?

ButtercupsTrueLove

Note that when Jean Grey extended her power beyond the confines of Damage Control, it bore similarities to what Professor Charles Xavier did as his mental stability deteriorated and he lost control in "Logan" - it took the lives of those in closest proximity to him (the X-Men) in the described "Westchester Incident", which was the location of his mansion and school. So far, this version of Jean Grey is able to control her powers.
