ALIEN (1979) - MOVIE REACTION - First Time Watching THEATRICAL CUT

Alien is a 1979 science fiction horror film directed by Ridley Scott and written by Dan O'Bannon, based on a story by O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett. It follows a commercial starship crew who investigate a derelict space vessel and are hunted by a deadly extraterrestrial creature. The film stars Tom Skerritt, Sigourney Weaver, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt, Ian Holm, and Yaphet Kotto. It was produced by Gordon Carroll, David Giler, and Walter Hill through their company Brandywine Productions and was distributed by 20th Century-Fox. Giler and Hill revised and made additions to the script; Shusett was the executive producer. The alien creatures and environments were designed by the Swiss artist H. R. Giger, while the concept artists Ron Cobb and Chris Foss designed the other sets. Hello everyone and welcome to The Coby Show! Thank you for supporting me and I hope you have a good time here! Hope u liked it. Can't wait to watch it. Holds up amazingly, though maybe not as scary now for audiences. My dad said seeing it in theaters was like signing up for a heart attack. I've heard the director's cut flows a little better, but I don't think I've seen it yet. His director's cut for Legends I dislike, but I've heard his cut of Kingdom of Heaven is a big improvement.

Hey Coby, I went to see Alien in the Theater when it first hit theaters with my dad and best friend. They wouldn’t let my friend in to the theater because he wasn’t 17 yet. My father had to agree to be his guardian for the purpose of seeing this movie. That is how scary it was to see in the theater in 1979! I blinked every time the alien appeared on screen so I never saw it at all until the final scene. Enjoy the gothic horror!

Alien is such a masterclass in building suspense truly one of the all time great Sci Fi horror films. I 'm so glad we'll be watching this tonight .

I'm so glad you chose the Theatrical Cut. The so-called "Director's Cut" for this movie is marketing nonsense. Ridley Scott has said his favorite cut is the original he made for theaters. He only created the alternate cut because Fox wanted a DVD extra, and he views it as a curiosity for fans that wanted to see some of the scenes he didn't use. He even removed scenes he prefers so that the run time would remain the same.

I love Alien, it's just an amazing film about a smart woman that no one listens to, so everyone dies except the smart lady and her cat. Five out of five stars.

Matthew Roche

The sequel Aliens is probably the greatest sci-fi movie ever made.

Joe Swenson

haha, love your tagline for this Coby!!!! thanks for the heads up

Coby, please resist the compulsion some reactors feel to watch every movie in the franchise. The first one is excellent, and the second one is the rare sequel that is just as good as the first one. After that, the quality drops off dramatically. You will get some people insisting that they others "aren't that bad", but here are the Rotten Tomatoes scores: Alien: 93% Aliens: 94% Alien 3: 44% Alien: Resurrection: 55% Prometheus: 73% Alien: Covenant: 65% Alien: Romulus: 80% The first 2 are great, but you can only watch so many movies, so I highly recommend skipping all of the others.

Perhaps you remember Tom Skerritt from Top Gun

I knew you’d talk about the spoof of the John Hurt scene from Space Balls!

First of all, I love the hat Coby. I’ve always really liked this movie, I always liked the first one better than Aliens. This is more of what I like, suspense. It’s basically a haunted house movie set in space. The crew is trapped in one place, and can’t escape the inevitable. You were so right to be suspicious of Ash. I had a feeling you’d catch on to him pretty early on. I feel like the alien was injured when it was on the shuttle. I really want to see The Storyteller with John Hurt after hearing you talk about it, I’m a big fan of his. This cast is perfect. Sigorney is amazing. Btw, this is the first film of Harry’s I ever remember seeing. You may remember Tom Skeritt from Top Gun, Poison Ivy, or the series Picket Fences. Ian Holm was actually the one actor I don’t remember seeing in something else, but I’m sure I must have seen at least something else with him in it. I’m so happy you’re finally watching a movie where an animal survives. The whole time I was thinking “she’s gonna be so happy that Jones survived. As always great reaction.

I love the alien movies I could talk about them for hours especially the later ones when Ridley Scott gets all metaphysical, spiritual and shit

Brandan Wakefield

Alien. Is a genuine horror film. Aliens, the first sequel, is a war film. Very different. But both great. I love them both. Aliens is probably more fun. The first Alien is supposed to take place in the 2120’s. Surprising their computer technology is so antiquated. The second one is 57 years later. Coby. You’re beautiful. The trucker hat. Doesn’t work for you.

Joe Swenson

So what da ya think now Coby, New relaxing sleep movie? 😁😁

I named my cat Ripley. She was small. But she had to be on me, all the time. Her eyesight, wasn’t very good. She had to be on my chest. She would creep up. And bite the fleshy part between my nostrils. I don’t know if it was her way of telling me she loved me. I think it was. Thanks. It stings. Love hurts, right? Still better than dogs. When I came over to my sister’s, her dogs would go crazy. Sadie, would just piss. My sister said “Brandan you’re her favorite person.” What did I do to deserve this honor? Cats. Lazy. Easy. Just like me. Dogs. Super high maintenance. Like women. Ripley. Did seem to love me. I had to bury her. I was crying. I’m 6’3”. Big men, do cry.

Crimson Ace

The 2nd female in this film is Veronica Cartwright. And while she's been in many incredible films within her career, I highly recommend her feature film debut at 11 years old, The Children's Hour (1961). That film stars Audrey Hepburn, Shirley MacLaine, and James Garner. It has some heavy subject matter, but is expertly directed and very powerful.

And Wow...when the creature bursts thru the stomach...OMFG!!!

John A

So funny you remembered Spaceballs which John Hurt recreates his Alien scene, I did not realize you had not seen ALIEN

James Cole

So fun. If I join patrion, is the movie blocked out like on YouTube? Totally worth a membership if I get to watch the movie with you.

Rg

Scary and Ripley is erotic

harold crown

The crew was always referred to by last name because the script was written gender neutral. According to lore the alien takes body shape from whatever species they incubated in. The underwear thing was lampooned on SNL

Gregg Dukes

U totally have to see Aliens! I love both Alien and Aliens but in my opinion Aliens is better! 👍👍👍
