So basically,I think that this anime is all about the effect that parents have on children, They do the same thing as their parents whether good or bad because we see that for example the marina of 2022 reproduces her mothers violence towards shizuka and shizuka steals azuma from marina like her mother previously did with marina s father surely by comforting him with sweet words. Aand no its not 2 different timelines bcause if takopi didnt gave his rope gadget that doesnt cut to shisuka she would ve used another normal one and survive, that s why the girls talk about the fail attempt suicide. Last thing, I think takopi s sin is simply that he cannot ask to go back in the past and solve a problem like that cause it cannot be him killing marina or some other thing related to violence because they have no concept of its, they literally say what is killing

J Man

Also, is Shizuka off to kill these children? She literally snatched up Takopi's MGS2 Stealth Camouflage, and Takopi's MGS4 OctoCamo (or TakoCamo) to go kidnap these kids and slice open their guts!

LelaniG

Shizuka mom is trash but the dad makes me sick! You left your child behind and all she had to remember you by is her dog, she clearly traveling alone finds you and you act like you domt know her and send her into the cold and rain! Not even making sure she gets back home safe

George

I like that they showed that even Takopi wasn't immune to the cycle of abuse. He normalized the way Marina treated him and that her mom treated her. He recognized it for what it was "You hit me because you're mimicking your mother hitting you," but even so, when he comes back to Happy Planet he slaps his mom's tentacle and violence isn't even a concept there. Takopi learned aggression from Marina who learned from her mother. The cycle continues.

Ellijah Brown

It seems like another theme outside of the cycle of abuse is the theme of the "sins of the father". Every action a parent takes has led to direct consequences for their children. Everyone has voiced their explanation of the cycle in the chat though

Creepy Killer

I still stand by it shizuka did nothing wrong and is completely innocent in all of this

TakoPeko

So the rope wouldve snapped but Takopi gave her the happy rope that couldnt snap damn

Unknown

Damn, Cosmo and Wanda fr killed Timmy after getting memory wiped

Sam

Shizuka is the ultimate victim here imo. She didn’t kill anyone or hurt anyone.

So the first time Takopi arrived on Earth was 2022 where he met Marina, and all the events of this episode took place. Then after returning to Happy Planet ALONE, the "mother" of Happy Planet banished him, because I'm guessing the rule is you have to return with someone. Even though Takopi told Marina he was going to go back in time to "kill Shizuka" I don't think Takopi at the time understood what it meant to kill someone, because he didn't witness anything like that yet. Not even his "mother" knew what it meant to kill. After Takopi slapped the hand/tentacle of his "mother" he went through the clock and landed in 2016 where he met Shizuka this time. Takopi knew certain things like he couldn't go back to Happy Planet, but he didn't know why, but since watching the episode we know it's because he is banished. I'm thinking the last scene we see where is approached by Azuma is before they go to Japan since it still looks like Azuma is carrying around the bag of evidence that he was going to go turn himself in.

So are the happians supposed to remain on whatever planet they land on to spread happiness? If so that makes sense why they seem naive and are not sure of what violence is since no one came back. And what exactly is the mission because they definitely can’t make everyone in the universe happy. Are they just stuck on earth bound to be miserable and not being able to do anything? I’m so clueless on how beneficial they can be and if there’s any success before.

Isaac

Shizuka painted as the bad guy because AZUMA simping for her. Lord have mercy.

Unknown

“Oh that’s Takopi’s first sin” “Oh wait no, THIS was Takopi’s first sin…” “Holy shit, Takopi just killed her that’s her first sin” This episode: “…”

Has Noname

…WOW. All I can say. This writing was crazy

Mrbondfire

Damn so In both timelines the two girls end up killing them selfs

Sori

you didn't notice but they showed a bunch of hints of Shizuka being invisible (you can see the flower on both Taokopi and her head) for the whole duration of her trip to Tokyo until she arrives to where her dad lives

Jigga Man

I don't think there are multiple timelines, that clock seems to represent the passing of time for earth in pi-world. So unless Takopi goes back to pi-world and rewind the clock again to when he didn't kill Marina, she's permanently dead. This thing is quite literally a reality warping toddler trying to be a therapist for an abused child.

Jigga Man

It's also kind of funny that Takopi learned that hitting someone is a form of love from Marina lol. So when he hit his Mom he really didn't register that she associates it with pain while he associates it with love.

tygspeedy

it was dark then it got darker 😭

Jigga Man

This is just a sad tale of how adults don't realize how heavily their actions affect their children.

SecondChances96

Easy AOTY for me so far and having read the manga I'm pretty sure it'll stick the landing. I hope Oyasumi Punpun gets an adaptation cause I've tried to read it a few times and always get a little bored around halfway

Joe Gun

If you think about it, the OP is about Shizuka, and the ED (Glass Lines) is about Marina. The Glass Lines that represent the scars on here face. Without a doubt, Takopi's Original Sin is a masterpiece, and Episode 5 so far is the best one yet. I really want to highlight the incredible VA work by Konomi Kohara as Marina Kirarazaka throughout the series and especially in episode 5. The way she really portrayed the anguish that Marina goes through with the tremble and despair in her voice is simply heartbreaking. Marina is a tragic character and I'm glad Kohara has been able to give such a grounded, haunting performance.

The GoDKing 27

Damn, the title for the episode reminds me of that one ep from aot.

Sam

So the suicide failed because Takopi wasn't there to give Shizuka the happy rope

Cool The Wrathful

That was a good twist I did not see coming! Since we’re nearing the end I gotta ask: how is Marina a natural blonde if her parents have black and brown hair? (I saw a baby picture where her hair was blonde)

Fred

Reading this arc in the manga was so scary cause I dead didn’t know if takopi was finna help her cut their stomachs😭

Jazko Exclusive

No one talking about how Takopi is supposed to Abduct a human after making them “happy” and bring them back to their home planet? Something’s fishy

camille

I really enjoyed this episode, real mind fuck. But it does leave me with a few questions. So, by the end of the episode we are back to the 2016 timeline, right? Why did Azuma seem mad when he was walking up to Takopi? Are we before or after he speaks to his brother? Also, Takopi doing all of this (defying the rules of his planet and his mom, going back in time, etc.) for Marina but not even knowing/realizing that 2022 Marina killed herself because she couldn't live with what she did to her mom. So, I'm thinking Marina is supposed to die regardless, whether it's 2016 or 2022.

Astr00

By takopi slapping the mom and bringing all of the human concepts of violence to planet happy he probably unintentionally brought the cycle of abuse to a planet that was free from all of that. Everyone watched tapoki hitting the mom and put those ideas in the other aliens.

Dréa

Omg I made a throwaway comment a few episodes back like what if he found Marina first 😭 this is crazy!

Eric Stormbringer

My best theory on why he was about to be memory wiped based on what the mom said is that Happian's reproduce by spreading Happiness. That would explain why returning alone is the "original sin". Returning alone- i.e without a baby Happian would mean that the Happian failed in their mission to spread happiness. Thus, the proper thing to do is to "reset" the Happian via memory wipe/reverse aging. They would also be "banished" from the Planet they failed the mission on (in this case Takopi would be banished from Earth) so that they can try a new one.

OnceUponABowl

nah when takopi was like we gotta kill her and flew home i was laughing...this is bad cuz its going think killing is the only way to happiness

CobraCartoon

Jesus Christ…this show is heavy…

Niuwah

Man wtf! 🧍‍♀️ I wish I could post pictures with comments to show what my face looked like watching this episode 😅 The beginning honestly wasn't that surprising cause we all knew that dog got put down, but then I was in shock, confusion, shock again, then wtf when Azuma showed up. Roshi basically said what I commented two episodes ago. I feel like somebody has to die. There are too many hurt people and crashouts in this show. Either one of the two, takopi, or the parents, but somebody has got to go.

Offw0rlder

Can this show just chill tf out for a sec? I’m uncomfy

Ekko08

My brain both is folded and traumatized 😭 Everyone is just trash and/or in unfortunate circumstances. Finding out that Takopi was originally with Marina and Shizuka's death was his mission was wild. The adults are ABYSMAL. You're gonna kill your daughter because she's experiencing something like you're experiencing? Under the jail for you

Delinda Arts

Damn I love all the nuance in this show. Bc both Shizuka and Marina are a product of HORRIBLE parenting. They had no guidance whatsoever (beside this pink crash out lmao). It’s so sad the dilemmas they’re in, but it makes for amazing character moments.

Delinda Arts

I’m not even going to act like I wasn’t clapped af until Takopi’s ship appeared lmaooo. Dawg I was rewinding like a mf making sure I didn’t miss something 😂

Nie

This show is so good ngl. Idk what's up with shizuka but I love her lmaoo

tiff

all the parents deserve a spot UNDER hell

WockWizard

the dad is a next level of scumbag. How can you look at your on kid and just do some shit like that.

Kathy C

These parents are trash and their kids actions are a product of their trash parenting. Shizuka's dad took me out....like really, you denied your child?!?!? And it seems like the other daughter and Shizuka aren't that far apart in age. Shizuka crashed out. The adults failed her so she began discarded ppl around her. This show is top tier for me

llzlzz

kids didn’t know anything just imitate their parents,Marina bullied Shizuka like her mother done the domestic violence, she didn’t know violence is wrong,Shizuka charms Nao on purpose like what her mother done to men,she can’t learn emotions just do for benefit,I’d say this story’s design is so great

Jett33

Nah im gonna trace all the blame back to these fuckass trash fathers cause wtf bruh. Everything starts with their decisions and behaviors.

Chase Daly

If anyone's still confused, episode 1 was the beginning of the second timeline, and this episode showed us the original timeline before Takopi lost his memories. The end of the episode was in the current timeline, after Shizuka bashed Takopi with a rock, and he traveled back from Tokyo off-screen. We don't know if Shizuka came back with him at this time. Edit: nvm, Roshi explained it perfectly.

Chase Daly

It's kind of sad but also interesting that Takopi's mom was just confused more than anything when Takopi hit her. She's not even mad because she's never experienced violence before and she doesn't understand why he hit her. It tells us that none of her children have ever visited a planet as violent as Earth.

CloudySky

They missed out the fact that Marina is literally the one that named him TAKOPI
