You know I'm really glad this anime is tackling the obesity crisis going on in Japan. Watching Marin become that monstrously fat was heartbreaking to see, but hopefully she's on the path to recovery now.

Goes to show the cultural differences between east and west in terms of what's considered fat. We all already know in America our fat problems are BEYOND normal to the point of being used to it while over in Korea, China and Japan a lil thickness n' flab is considered straight up fat. Did y'all know Uraraka ( my hero academia ) is considered fat by Asian standards? Thats why Bakugo called her round face. It was a fat dis that whole time. Lol

They damn near had an intervention for Marin going up half a dress size. But she eats crazy amounts of 7-11 and Lawsons, so she was bound to thicken up a little. It's dope that they address it in the show to me; it just shows that they're paying attention to continuity. It's one of the things that was pointed out last season because she lives alone; she basically eats hot Cheetos, boiled eggs, and Sprite all the time.

The manga makes it clear that Gojo's calculation of 50,000 calories was way off. It literally said that the shock of Marin's eating habits made him dumber 😂

I’m like Gojo. I write too much. I can relate, I had to lose and maintain weight for a job once. Sometimes it's just part of the job. Coming off my favorite arc, we get one of my favorite scenes. The loose socks photo shoot is just pure Marin being Marin and how can you not love it? I like how they snuck one blurry shot in there because no shooting session is without scratch shots. This episode highlights something that has been in the background for a bit. Gojo’s not the only one experiencing character growth. But for Gojo, this is the first time we’ve seen him reaching out to someone outside of his association with Marin.

Idk why but I thought we passed the arc or it was in last season and then I saw the episode and I was like oh wow this is way later lol but yeah I haven’t read that part in the manga in a good while but if I remember correctly it’s shown that Marin does eat a lot like I think she goes to the store to get snacks to eat or food stands often and gojos breakfast just added to her weight. And I’m pretty sure it was also more apparent too that she gained weight. I don’t think the animators did a good job showing up but I think in the manga her face is more rounder and also they show her arms and legs got more thicker besides her stomach. I could be wrong, I’ll probably reread it but yeah although it doesn’t really show in the anime the manga does show the slight gain weight. I think she gained like 2 dress sizes or something lol

Went over the last two volumes up to here to check. Face: very hard to tell. During this section her hairstyle keeps changing which has an effect on how her face looks. Because of the season she's been wearing long sleeves so the only chance to see is the changing room scene which was most cut from the anime and there was a full body shot that does show the beginning of a change in the tummy but the arms and legs look normal. They changed the shot to a chest up in the anime but they did hint a bit with how much the bra popped.

I don't think obsessing over a 5 - 10 pound weight variance when you're already the smallest available dress size is healthy. That's how eating disorders are formed. Obviously this instance is related to Marin's job and that's just how it is, but I don't think that makes it any less absurd.

First of all: ew. I can’t even imagine what that tastes like. Just trying almost made me throw up. Secondly, I’m pretty sure that Japanese mayo is made differently, so not only does it taste better, it’s also slightly healthier. Not something that should be chugged down, mind you, but not something that would completely destroy diets like ours. Could be wrong though. Can I get someone to fact check me on that?

Japanese use a lot of mayo on their food. So much so I have to skip some of the stuff sometimes. Their mayo does taste different than what we use and is less gag reflex, but I'm personally still not into eatting mayo by itself as a condiment with an item.

@coatl45 the main difference between kewpie mayo and "regular" mayo is that kewpie mayo uses egg yolks instead of whole eggs, rice vinegar instead of distilled, and MSG. There can be other small variances (sugar and sodium contents can vary depending on brand), but overall it's still mayo, neither is necessarily healthy and you should only be eating small amounts of it. I think kewpie mayo generally has a higher fat content than "regular" mayo, due to the high egg yolk content.

idk who lied to roshi and sheera but there is zero scientific reason to support age induced weight gain lol, your metabolism doesn't slow down either, the correlation between age and weight gain is due to decline in activity as you age and getting comfortable overall, you're not at some magical disadvantage due to age when it comes to losing weight

No you don’t, mechanistic evidence of the body doesn’t support this and neither do studies, in fact studies explain that this DOES actually happen but not because you literally get older but because on average people workout less and eat worse as they get older, there is nothing physiological or biologically CAUSING a lower TDEE or muscle catabolism, it’s just the average older person not maintaining their younger habits. Anyone claiming the opposite is basing it off their own personal anecdotal evidence which is usually just them excusing their inactivity and bad diet

One the one hand, Mohd, you are absolutely right.* The scientific research has only been solidifying that metabolism doesn't inherently slow with age. On the other hand, your body is absolutely slower to repair itself and recover energy, and this makes it understandable why people find it harder to stay active even if you do get people who manage to stay super fit into late age. *unless you are also asserting that you don't lose muscle as you age which is absolutely a thing and part of the problem with staying active.

You’re correct but people over exaggerate the effects of this, the body’s efficiency does drop with age but this doesn’t even remotely effect you unless you approach on average your early to mid 50s, the reason there’s noticed effects in the population at age’s 30-40 etc is due to just overall lower activity in that age group, in actuality your bodies peak would be around your 40s if you stay consistent in building your lean mass, so it’s genuinely most of the time just an excuse that makes people feel good which isn’t rooted in the literature

Not sure if anyone else said it yet, and hate to be that person, but technically loose socks and leg warmers aren't the same thing. Leg warmers are typically footless or have the stirrups, where loose socks cover the entire foot. Leg warmers are also typically made from a thicker material than loose socks. Only reason I know is cus I used to wear those as part of my style in my younger days lol

We technically measure (dietary) calories in kcal, so if Gojo means small calories then that's equivalent to 5,000, which is not nearly as bad as 50,000 but still twice the recommended adult intake lmao. Individual variation aside, obviously.

This takes place in Japan. Being overweight is a major no no. Businesses there check the employees regularly to make sure yhey don't get fat. Then add in she is a model. You are right though. That proffesion does seem to lead to eating dissorders
