Curtis Rice

Seeing all this come to life is amazing, the emotions hit harder for me.

Ronnie

Loved all the references they put in!! Dirt Wizard, Circus Man, Pop Pop, and Magic Man 😭😭😭🫶🫶

Jamaal Ellison

Wait Wait no!!! My steak still cooking!!!! 😭

Jamaal Ellison

Requesting For All Mankind on Apple TV.

Jason Marbach

I cannot get over how fcking cool they made Molly. I’m mad about it, actually. But also overjoyed

Lea Garrido

Yooo this upload came at a great time! I JUST finished ep 3 and was like "wonder when ep 4 drops!"

Bria A.

Not every person in the Kryn Dynasty is consecuted! Only a relatively small subpopulation. Some of them are just normal people, so no population control needed. I haven't read all of the comics and tie-in books and stuff so I might not have the exact details down (the territory of Xorhas and the Kryn Dynasty will be explained much more in the show than it ever was in the campaign so I'm looking forward to that), but to answer Sheera, consecution doesn't "replace" or overwrite the soul of the child that's born -- it's the native soul of that body, even if that comes with its own issues when they get their past life memories back.

Tsuki

A little disappointed fjord didn’t get his moment against the toad like in the campaign but it is what it is

Jason Marbach

Yeah, “crick” is indeed a slur. The show might explain so I’m gonna nest the explanation of the slur (see below for spoilers) for anyone who’s interested. …nesting… …nesting… The warriors of the Kryn dynasty wear armor with hollows in the arm guards that the wind whistles through when they run/charge into battle, creating a distinctive sound kind of like a herd of crickets. Hence, “crick”

Bria A.

"If it bleeds, we can kill it." Not the Predator reference, I love them lmao.

Tamlin Lafleur

I think the Traveler is Real, because you can see when Jester was introduced he responded, it feels like he stopped responding when Fjord came around. Also as a guide to Dnd magic, it usually comes from : A God(cleric,Druid sometimes) Bloodline(Sorcerer) Study(Wizard bard) or a Pact/deal (Warlock) this isnt 100% in every case but it can be a good guide to figuring out certain characters powers

Ronnie

The devil Toad has nothing to do with Fjord's abilities btw. The colors just both happened to be green-ish

Tamlin Lafleur

Aslo using magic, Usually you need to be able to talk, or move your hands, wich u see alot of characters do, but also u need items, Unless you have a spell casting focus like a symbol of ur god or a magic stone or staff etc

mason zeo

The frogs eyes changing was Toya's influence being broken, hence why she said its broken free after its eyes changed. Plus the green eyes of the frog is way different than fjord's, look at the creatures it was controlling/making and notice how the whole eye turns green whereas fjord is a green pupil and black sclera.

taqueets

Beau's 'pop pop' is a nice callback to Marisha always saying pop pop before she rolled her dice for her two monk attacks during combat. I've been waiting for that reference to make an appearance lol. It's so iconic for Beau from the campaign.

VVenture

What honestly makes Vox Machina and The Might Nein series so impressive to me is the fact that if somebody said ‘Hey, a bunch of voice actors are making an animated tv series out of their D&D games!’ I’d immediately assume it’d be a terrible idea and the most ass show ever. I mean think about it - just because they’re good voice actors, doesn’t mean they have a single damn clue about how to showrun and produce an entire animated series. In fact in 99% of situations this concept should fall apart before it even gets off the ground. But overall, they’ve done an incredible job. They clearly knew who to hire, from the animation studio to the producers to the writers. They also clearly know how to properly adapt certain jokes so they make sense in the show (like the origins of ‘The Mighty Nein’ name - which was mostly an inside joke in their game sessions that ended up as their in-canon name.) Like honestly the show has no right to be as good as it is, but clearly the Critical Role people know how to run a business on top of their usual jobs of being working actors.

Just Gene

Are we getting the other 2 episodes like the schedule said, or were they replaced by The Sandman and Sanda?

Dyastro123

They aren't even out on prime yet, hence why the schedule changed

Gilthwixt

Damn, I did not expect Mollymauk's speech at the end there to go that hard, but it really did.

Nick Vaughn

At least he didn’t get called crick with the hard r. Also Nott is 100% giving off vibes of “Use to be a mom but lost my family and got cursed”

Imari

Me neither but honestly I think it’s cause they spent a good amount of time and ruined all the characters lives in a short time that them being a group at the end makes sense for all of them.

Co

2 hot headed dicks

Jonathan Hart

Roshi gotta chill on my goat Caleb, he's nerfed right now😭🙏🏽

Jjb

I was confused when I seen it say 3 episodes thought they found the method of sum 😭😭

That guy joe

Based on what limited Dnd knowledge I have and how the classes operate, just go ahead and drop that frog theory😂 Fjords power is completely unrelated, I don’t know if they’ll explain what his class is cause I didn’t watch the table top campaign but yeah the Frog has no relevance in the matter just coincidentally both have green eyes

BlueMop91

Is it just me or the stuff they choose to watch. Doesn’t hit anymore

Abensur

I don’t want to spoil things so I’ll just say there’s no connection between Fjord and the Toad besides the color being similar. And you were right that it was from outside their plane, Devil Toad is not a moniker it’s actually what it is

Terry King Jr

Sometimes you don't rock with the current roster it happens just wait a few weeks

the Forgiven

Jester is my favorite character, but they're all great.

Archer

Just you.

artisticSarcasm

Their chemistry as a group is really the foundation of everything else I think. They trust each other and honestly just play their games staying the best they can to their characters while having a hell of a time, it's just cool to watch; even I messed around and got through the whole first livestreamed game crying at the end. Very close friends and fortunate to be around good passionate people who know how to make things like this show and the previous actually come to life with just about every bit of emotion that these moments in the game brought. This season's a bit more fun for me cause not even I know how it's gonna go down. Only barely got past the frog fight in the livestream.

Andrew

Nott isn't cursed she's just an alcoholic lmao

Bria A.

On top of Matt in general already making up new terminology / names to separate his campaigns and world from D&D, D&D is Wizards of the Coast property, so they likely won't ever give in-show explanations for mechanics unless it's a generic enough class like "wizard" that they can get away with using it or modifying it slightly. So for the most part it's insider knowledge, Critical Role specific worldbuilding, and anything they can describe in layman's terms, so to speak.

Fuji

if something happens to jester im turning this shit off

Fuji

just you big dog

PJ Rivera

And thus the group is born

maseken

Molly's class is a custom homebrew class that Matthew Mercer (DM and voice of Essek and Silas Briarwood from Vox Machina and a bunch of other characters) made the class! It's the Blood Hunter class inspired by the Witcher and such

rrrebo

In Jester's mug shot self portrait, her booking number is 318008..."BOOBIE" backwards, calculator style. :)

Sam

I love listening to you guys theorise, it's cool. Also, knew you would like Fjord's response to seeing Toya, lol

JustThatOtherDude

Dark Roku just assembly lining that CV copied from Mengel, huh?

Jamaal Ellison

No one through different anime, I've watched over the years. I didn't think they had in them. It's crazy that no one else has tried to do this.

DevilMayCarter

"No comma." Why does "Buster and Babs Bunny, no relation" run through my head?

Polygon

Notable changes: This whole plot thread with the Volstrucker Owelia didn't exist in the home game. Looks like they're using it to more organically explain other story beats and how the characters come together instead of "oh we have to because we're playing a game" lol. Also, both Toya and Gustave actually survive in the game, and live happily ever after, so it's kinda sad to see them get offed as a way to make the situation heavier for show. Toya's is more understandable, since she sets up Nott's arc though.

Jamaal Ellison

So i'm loving the show so far. I haven't learned all the names so I'm gonna use descriptions. The only thing that's not working for me is the grey guy that sold out his country to help his mother, I refuse to believe a guy like that is so naive as to believe. These people would holdup their end of the deal. this guy was allowed in the inner circle of the his kingdom's palace. He had direct dealings with his nation's Queen so he wasn't a dummy. Saying he was desperate doesn't work for me. Given that the Queen trusted him enough to head this investigation. He's clearly considered to be intelligent I just thought he was smarter than that.

Polygon

He's also a reflection of them being level 2, and level 2 wizards are pretty ass lmao

Polygon

All the scenes with Essek are actually completely new to the animated show. Essek is a character that isn't even introduced into the game until episode 57, so something like 200+ hours into this campaign lmao. Without spoiling, Essek was mostly a background character, but ended up being a fan favorite and major player in world, so it looks like they're giving us more time with him as a bit of fanservice.

Jamaal Ellison

Oh, okay. I think they've done him a disservice. All his scenes feel like parts of Game of Thrones when they ran out of the book or they had to make adaptations to fit the changes they made so they needed to pad the show out.

CobraCartoon

That’s so funny Lupa said Dr.Strange because the guy who voices Caleb also voices Dr. Strange in Marvel Rivals and a lot of Marvel properties.

Polygon

Yeah I kinda agree tbh. The reveal that Essek was a traitor to the Kryn Dynasty was a HUGE wtf moment/reveal during the campaign around episode 100, so to have that revealed to the audience in the second episode does feel weird to me. We as the audience know, but I guess in world, the Nein don't.

That guy joe

Interesting, and I figured as much, I could tell from their Vox machina series that they mostly follow the rule of cool rather than traditional dnd rules and mechanics in their games I guess this one will be just as fun to speculate on lol

Disoma

2 : 45 Okay guys here me out.

Disoma

no but I'd be happy to help change that.

Disoma

she sounds like dexter.

Disoma

I cannot not hear dexter every time she starts speaking.

Disoma

4 : 14 Okay guys here me out.

Tobias Reinhold

Taliesin actually explains this, though mostly in the context of Gustave. He said that the character never went anywhere in the original version. He was introduced here, they saved him, they later on sent him some money in exchange for the carnival being destroyed and that's it. He never appears again, is never relevant again, nothing. They felt it was unsatisfying with regards to Gustave's importance to Molly's introductory story, so they changed it.

thatNEET_

3:15 Almost everything was a dick. The more you look, the more dicks you find. My favorite was the hydra with three dicks for heads.

Delinda Arts

mannnnn i need those 3-pack drops like they did with Vox Machina. Critical Role struck gold with these shows man.

Wizard

The funniest part of this episode was definitely “my cooch has more calluses” 😭😭

Godrick

Forgive the wizard. They start off kinda trash, and then very shortly become the god of the group

thatNEET_

Bro said crick with hard R

Michael Kaiser

Aight I’ve seen enough this is peak 😭🔥

KidLeviathan

Hear me out, I was rewatching Vox Machina and I think "the traveler" might be that weird goat dude from the Fey Realm dude legit said "Garmelie was merely the traveler" (S2E7 min 22) he also said something about traveling again after sending them back AND he did seem like some sorta deity. They've mentioned the De Rolos (percy's family) in this show already, so I think it's all the same universe

KidLeviathan

I've only seen Vox Machina up to season 3 and these 4 episodes; but if I'm right i really appreciate the way they're building up the world and that they set that up so far back lol

thatNEET_

I'm pretty sure nobody took over the frog. The frog was being subdued by Toya's signing, but then it was no longer being subdued, and that's what made its eyes change.

Raymond Terry

Love that Lupa is still quoting The Penguin a year later practically.

Krype

Frog was smart always gotta focus on the mages in the back

grimreapercz

Yup, each time Caleb uses a spell, he has to consume a component for it. It's why he needs so many Lumino beetles this and previous episode :>

L S

this reaction/episode were hilarious especially 24:15

Bria A.

Okay all the rest aside because I'm not going to confirm or deny, seeing Crispy in the wild is insane. Hi! I saw a YBR clip in one of your videos but I had no clue you were actually subbed to the Patreon 😭 Been enjoying your content for years now. Have a nice day!

Bria A.

Jamaal, to be fair -- they haven't gone into detail about this (particularly involving Caleb, which I imagine they'll do soon or in future seasons) so I won't either, but Trent is a master manipulator and groomer, particularly of young minds. Essek is an "adult", sure, but incredibly sheltered in the same vein as Jester but in a less physical sense, and in comparison to the very experienced people that surround him, only on his first life. Trent's position is Archmage of Civil Influence, literally a propaganda master by trade and profession lmfao. And he's extremely intelligent on top of it.

Bria A.

That's actually really funny to hear given that Matt is one of the more stringent well-known DMs in terms of rule adhesion lol

Rheaird

Are you sure?

Bria A.

they'll probably stick with single drops for as long as the episodes are an hour long (hoping for this for tlovm s4, but i don't know if shows often change their runtimes that dramatically?) -- which on the one hand i love because i hate "binge the whole season in a few days and immediately stop talking about it because the hype burned out" culture, but on the other hand i need more episodes lol

Gwyn

Just me or is the volstrucker halfling bad as fuck

Alex

Crick are former high elves

That guy joe

Oh wow 😂 I guess the vibes just translates differently as an animated medium

Norman kay10

Hmmmmm delicia. Peak content Next Please 🙏

Moon Man

At what point is shitty behaviour just shitty behaviour, this monk chick acts like she has a shit stuck halfway out her ass that just refuses to fall out. She is NOT cool, just a raging bitch, idk how y'all get anything else. Quite literally the same character as Lady in the Devil May Cry 2025 animated series.

RinCaimo

I mean, she's interesting to me but I did watch a good bit of this campaign. Beau goes through a LOT of character development but we are seeing her at the beginning of her journey here. She hasn't had time to be changed by all these people she just met. But the show is doing a good job of SUBTLY setting up why Beau is the way she is now. I don't want to spoil but Beau being a raging asshole with massive trust issues will make sense.

IzzyB33

There is so much more to Beau than that. She is an asshole because it is how she has survived her life. And by the end of this episode you see she even starts to soften up a bit - with hundreds of hours of content still left. The character growth for her and all these characters is gonna be epic I promise. Just keep an open heart.

Moon Man

I see, until I see that improvement y'all prophesize I'll keep thinking she is just being a bitch though. You can have past trauma and experiences and still not flip off, cuss at, insult random strangers you CHOSE to be with and stay with.

IzzyB33

I respect that. All I ask is for grace regarding her. We aren't excusing I promise - just asking you to await context and growth. To view her in complexity. Also she is 21 at this point in the campaign so she has all the bluster and misguidance of that age as well.

RinCaimo

I think they are drow?

RinCaimo

Oh 100% but Beau starts off with a LOT of abrasive defense mechanisms to cope with how she's been treated right up until Darrion saw something in her. Of course, we don't condone her being a big ol bag of dicks to her new team but she will grow up quite a lot.

Nick

I'm currently playing a wizard in my first DnD campaign, and I can confirm.

Godrick

Level 1-3: easily killable, doesnt do much damage, doesnt have much utility Level 4-6: decent damage, can VERY occasionally make a game changing move/turn the tide of battle Level 7-10: can annihilate enemies and allys alike, shapes the world around them as they see fit, literally warping time and space at their own convenience Level 11+: "I looked forward, and I saw no one ahead of me. I looked to my sides, and saw no one equal to me. I looked behind me, and I saw.... everyone." -Divination Wizard, right before he changes the dice to guarantee Banish you to another plane of existence and Teleports himself to another country

joshua rosario

wasnt there suppose to be a 3 ep drop today or is the schdule wrong

Bria A.

I will also put into context for you that these characters, right now, are the equivalent to level 2 (out of 20). They literally just started. I know it translates a lot less in a TV show than a D&D game, but this is the absolute very beginning lol. On top of the backstory/characterization stuff other people mentioned. But I will say that even in this episode I at least felt that she was shown softening up a bit, and leaning more into affectionate snark instead of just being abrasive? Could very well just be me knowing and loving her though, so I'm not going to dismiss an outside viewer's opinion!

Oliver

To add to Roshi's theory i am certain Traveler is real she made drawings of him. HOWEVER he have not shown himself since Fjord and i think it's that Sea god influence in Fjord. I think Traveler is keeping low, not that he is afraid of Fjord's "god"

Bria A.

Yeah, they're drow (or whatever the show's / Matt's legally distinct equivalent is), which is just straight up a different elf subrace. They're being called slurs for completely unrelated reasons lol.

Abigail

She's honestly not that bad man.

Gwyn

Crick Elves make me immediately think of backwoods hillbilly elves that live at The Crick, from NADDPOD

Nox

The only thing I will confirm (because it's not a spoiler) is that YES this takes place in the same universe as Vox Machina, just a couple decades in the future (like 20 or 30 years?). The first 3 Critical Role campaigns all took place in the setting of Exandria with Campaign 1/Vox Machina primarily taking place on the continent of Tal'Dorei, Campaign 2/The Mighty Nein primarily on the continent of Wildemount, and Campaign 3 primarily in Marquet.

Bria A.

there aren't three episodes to react to. it was "scheduled" tuesday, but they were only behind on episode four at the time and new episodes drop wednesday at midnight

Charis Smith

I haven't watched the campaign but I play dnd and I'm pretty sure the frog is something completely different from whatever gave Fjord his powers. He seems to be a warlock to me.

Co

Cobalt the Soul Monk is so cool. Her attitude is quite appealing and I hope she never changes because she is perfect.

Josue Dominguez

If you all didn’t know, the cast of the show were also players of the DnD campaign that Matthew Mercer voice actor of McRae ran. They are all playing their original characters in both shows Vox Machina and the Mighty Nein. Although there has been some changes from the tabletop campaign to the TV show for the most part, a lot of the things are one to one from campaign, which is really cool to see on television. As a fan, you use imagination of the mind to kinda see the story while they role-play it but now with the television show and how big critical role became it’s awesome to see it being properly portrayed. Some of the actions in the show may not seem like much sense, but that also could be that the players themselves didn’t make sense in their actions during the tabletop and it could just be betrayed live action for example in Vox Machina there were some attacks that were hit upon the players in certain scenes, and that could just have been attacks that were made against the player and were successfully able to hit using the DnD mechanics.

Shiki Granbell

Funny that Lupa called Caleb, Dr. Strange since he’s voiced by Liam O’Brien, aka the english va of Gaara, Asura, and Dr. Strange in Marvel Rivals and a few shows

Kyle Garrett

Alright so I've looked through the comments and haven't seen it so if anyone else has said it I'll apologize. Fjord [the green dude with the dual accents and weird sword] says "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't--you're right." which is something the old man told him back in E2. That quote is attributed to Henry Ford [yes THAT Henry Ford] and is a very funny callback to the Campaign where they used every chance they could to make fun of that name, so Im HOPING this means we keep at least some of the jokes here. Small one that isn't a spoiler but when he gets a horse for the first time he asks if it's a "Mustang" - it's silly shit like this that makes this show amazing [along with the hella dope story and animation]

Adrian Locke

27:20 fjord made a real ass business decision
