tsukihime reference 😟

BZD

Gilgamesh going to a casino when he owns everything in the world. And has A ranked luck. SMH

BZD

Didn’t Caster reference Shirou last episode with the Noble Phantasm stuff? Or was that more of a nod to him by the writers?

GJ

Dead apostles are humans turned vampires either through magecraft or from another vampire. Theirs a game called tsukihime about them which is also in the nasuverse. Idk if it’s a coincidence but if u kill a dead apostle its seems they fall in love with you lmao

Dilyn Howard

Okay the vampire when he summoned assassin he was transformed to look like a different person when she ripped his heart out. After she left he transformed back into his real face and body; this was shown back in episode 0 when Gilgamesh got summoned

Garrett

Should look back at episode 0. The vampire guy is explained there, you saw him in that episode change hearts, almost like a revolver, and change looks. Also dead apostles were brought up in Fate Zero In Kiritsigus back story. His father turned his childhood friend into one and the whole island was turning into them. (Lesser versions and less fleshed out kinds)

Datguyamir

Still waiting on the goat

BZD

The Vampire transformed into his current appearance. Remember he spun a wheel in his chest and then transformed. It was always the same person. The weird ritual was just the summoning ritual.

Knight

To put it simply the Vampire has extra lives like a cat, each life has a new body and his old body was disguising himself as a mage, current body is just him being his regular vampire self, I don't want to spoil about the current amount of lives the vampire have right now in case its spoilers

BZD

That’s a coincidence. Usually a side effect of them also being slightly insane and the person killing them being interesting

salad

jester is the same master that assassin killed in episode 0, he swapped appearances with his multiple hearts in the same episode.

Vinne

The nasuverse is insane yall glad you're enjoying the show tho 😭

KevDu

The part where Assassin killed the master in episode 0, that was Jester. But he has multiple hearts and he changed his appearance after the summoning.

AkkhilesCosmos45

Basically what Jester is saying is that he isn't any stronger than any of the servants in the Holy Grail War, but because Dead Apostles are existences that are anti humanity, noble phantasms wielded by regular humans don't work well against him because they don't have enough conceptual power. HOWEVER, he says that if it's a noble phantasm wielded by an actual servant it would work against him because servants have enough conceptual weight to negate his resistance. It's like type resistances in pokemon. These cops are basically level 1 pokemon using a 120 power Fireblast against a level 50 water type to do like 1 hp of damage. Meanwhile a servant would be like a level 100 pokemon using the same move. Still technically ineffective on paper, but it would still shear off a huge amount of health anyway if not outright KO it. Fate can get confusing with its system, but it's fairly simple.

WITCH_of_AKASHA

Jester the vampire was introduced in episode Zero. The Assassin took one of his many hearts, so assassin assumed his master was already dead. But that was not the case, he changed to a different form and a new heart when he was temporarily out cold.

Zacost

“Did we get an intro last episode” bet are -2 odds to 1

Idris Naama

Jester is NOT TO BE MESSED WITH. He's a problem for both masters and servants. I'm anime only so I don't know if they'll go into more detail of what a Dead Apostle is later on in the show, but all I'll say is that they're generally no fucking joke when it comes to their strength. You saw how he easily he took care of all those mages compared to his own servant Assassin who was struggling more. He was also the reason why she was able to spam all those Noble Phantasms that we was using so many times without running of mana which just goes to how much he has especially since he went on to take them all on with no effort.

Just Gene

If y'all are confused about Assassins Master, it has been a long time since you watched episode 0 but here's what happened. The ritual worked for Assassins summoning, but upon being summoned, Assassin killed everyone. Unfortunately for everyone, one of the ritualists was a dead apostle and being the only survivor, due to only 1 of his multiple hearts being destroyed, the marks were transferred to him. It seems this dead apostle is immortal by virtue of having multiple lives, via the multiple hearts, each with a different body that it transforms into on switching hearts.

AkkhilesCosmos45

Also when she crushed her master's heart, he basically revived himself by swapping hearts and regressing into a younger version of himself. It was in Episode 0 so no surprise you forgot.

WITCH_of_AKASHA

I would suggest revising episode zero so nothing goes past you, since it has been a long time since you’ve watched it.

Fernando Perez

So this happened in episode 0. Jester summoned Assassin, and she immediately used Zabaniya to crush his heart. But then he came back to life looking like he does now. He seemingly just swapped to a different heart, and is obsessed with her. It’s the same guy, he just revived and looks younger.

redrum.

The man she murderer is the same man you see now. Jester has six cores referenced as “bullets” that he can switch between which is why he looks different in this episode. Essentially six lives.

Fernando Perez

Also, you may not remember this, but Dead Apostles were actually mentioned in Fate Zero. When Kiritsugu was a kid living in his village, his father experimented to try to recreate immortality by studying Dead Apostles. Unfortunately that led to the entire village being turned into zombies and the Church having to come in and cover the whole thing up.

Idris Naama

The Church views Dead Apostles as basically their #1 enemy which is why Hansa got involved at the end there. However, Dead Apostles are not only enemies to the Church but to humanity as well on an ontological level. Basically, its inherently within their nature to be pure evil while seeking to destroy & feed on humans and everything they have created and represent. They are humanities antithesis.

Roon

In ep 0 Assassin killed her master by crushing his heart so she thought she doesn’t have a master but he is still alive and is her master It’s the same guy (I think) But he switched out his heart like the old telephone dials by spinning it

WackySwacky

There are a lot of references in this show to other series in he Natsuverse that aren’t fate, and also fate series that don’t have anime adaptations.

Abensur

Bro fuck Gilgamesh for going to a casino that nigga literally has a Clairvoyance Noble phantasm 😭😭😭

JustThatOtherDude

Why.... why do the NPCs look like they're MCs on another show??? O.o

RadTicTacs

Bro's straight up cheating with his Golden Rule A

13

As someone who's probably in way too deep into the nasuverse, its actually so interesting to see their interpretations of what's happening

BZD

Remember the famous words of Carnival Phantams Gilgamesh: “I am the Rules!” *Lancer ga Shinda*

Idris Naama

Fun fact about Gilgamesh that you guys might not know about is that he has a skill called "Golden Rule", this is the official description of it: "Being fated a life that is filled with riches, he can live as a millionaire. Gilgamesh lives the life of a nabob and has no money troubles for the entirety of his life." So he will never be in the negative financially which is why that Priest Overseer was telling Gilgamesh that he would "borrow some of his luck"

Seibahhh

some info: -jester was in ep0 and summoned assassin -dead apostles are "vampires" which were originally humans who got fed on by other dead apostles or True Ancenstors. True Ancestors were born from the planet itself as a defence mechanism against humanity, bc humans slowly destroy the planet and its mystery like spirits, dragons etc., be it with magecraft or nuclear weapons for exmaple. Dead Apostles are considered fairly weak against top mages -it seems caster can rewrite "rules" so the police force can handle noble phantasms -magecraft can replicate things a normal human can also do, like creating fire for exmaple. Magic are phenomenons nonmages cannot replicate much I can but dont wanna write bc you simply wouldnt get it lmao even the dead apostle stuff is hard to understand if you dont know type moon lore

Seibahhh

interesting and frustrating also lmao

Seibahhh

bro uses it for everything BUT fights

Zeke

It's more a nod. Because Fate/Stay Night has 3 routes, they want to keep it ambiguous because all the routes are canon

Zeke

So basically, Jester, the Vampire, summoned Assassin in ep 0 & she ripped out his heart. That's why she said she didn't have a master. Because she didn't know he was a dead apostle (vampire) with multiple hearts. He replaced his old heart with a spare & changed his physical appearance.

salad

Correction, jester was always the master, he didnt take ownership from another

Derek Warren

Atp I’m just watching animation cuz idk wth is going on mainly bc I never watched a fate/strange show

Seibahhh

then I remembered it falsely ty

Pan Cakes

To fix the confusion about jester. He is the original master that summoned her in episode 0. one of his hearts got killed by assassin and he looked like he died to her( thats why she keeps saying she doesnt have a master). But he revived and swapped hearts on the wheel thing he had on his chest which changed his appearance to what we have now. its basically the same person with multiple hearts and the ability to change appearance.

SonOfMan

The guy with the lomg hair in tha flashback is the same guy. He just can shapeshift. Assassin didnt exchange masters

Requiem_Phantom

Yeah, the fate shows you've watch before this aren't known for the world building as the Nasuverse has a lot going on. Fate/zero and fate/stay series were more focused on just those two wars and Emiya. In fact, they don't even really effect the greater world that much from those two series. Fate/apocrypha, and Fate/Grand Order are the two big fate series that do a lot worldbuilding, delving in deep on the overall world. Now, the vampires is a whole nother thing in the nasuverse, and actually rarely appear or are shown in the fate series. They are more prominent in the Kara no Kyoukai and Tsukihime series of the nasuverse. Those two series also do good worldbuilding of the Nasuverse, but more focused on the supernatural side, and less with the magic society and grail stuff. Like I said, a lot is going on in the Nasuverse, and that's not even getting into the various timelines and alternate realities/cycles.

ShaquanVirse

Jester was in ep Zero and summoned assassin - he always been the master

del

He did reference him in ep 0. When Caster says he knows guys who are better at making replicas, that’s Shirou

BZD

Cool. Love that my boy got some love.

del

So! Jester summoned Assassin in ep 0 / whispers of dawn. And she immediately crushed his heart. She thinks he’s dead. Pretty reasonable. But! Jester is a vampire known as the “six heart revolver”. So he just swaps over to his next heart and becomes albino Light Yagami. This is not reasonable. Very unfair of Jester. Assassin, who prefers to rush head first at the enemy instead of sneaking around, just didn’t take any time to think about why she’s able to spam her multiple noble phantasms without disappearing. When Orlando mentions this to her she has a visible “oh fuck” moment. As for Jester owning the cops, think rock paper scissors. The cops are rock, and jester is paper. To beat paper you need scissors aka our good church going cyborg priest. Who is going to fuck shit up next episode.

JustRyu30

this make me want to download the mobile game again

Archer

Jester was always Assassin's master, in Episode 0 it was this same Jester who got his heart crushed by Assassin during the summoning, shortly after that they showed him reviving himself by swapping hearts and his face and voice completely morphed so it's the exact same person but he looks different. I hope they explore Dead Apostles more even if this is a Fate story, the whole Dead Apostle hierarchy in Tsukihime is so damn cool, I need more 😭😭

GYD

This series might genuinely turn into my favorite Fate story. The ensemble cast is *so* engaging.

Unreasonable Peanut

Roshi is right about it being similar to Solo Leveling, because the composer of SL is the one who composed it. It's Hiroyuki Sawano. He also did Attack on Titan and To be hero X

HaruhiDream

Jester is the same guy. He has multiple hearts. In episode 0 when Assassin killed him he got back up and complained about having to use one of them. The hearts were in a circle under his skin and when they rotated to a new one, Jester became young again and walked away good as new.

HaruhiDream

You don't need to watch any for this one, but it does help so you understand the structure. Basically it is a battle Royale where masters summon champions to fight for them to obtain a wish granting object known as a grail. This one is just more complex as there are more factions involved that all have their own goals. Like for example, the church always handles the grail wars but the one this time was started by the american government. That is why that priest was confronting the american police in this episode.

Kalf97

yea vampires in the fate series are on another level XD for anyone confused the noble phantasms didn't work on jester cause they are the embodiments of human history. Jester pointed out that dead apostles by their nature deny human history so they disappeared when trying to attack him (their concepts just fizzled away.)

Chinese Cartoons

It's not even that, Gilgamesh literally has a skill called Golden Rule that just means money falls into his lap

Joshua Cato

Bro, this whole episode, I'm like this year's Holy Grail War is all out of whack so much is happening and so many factions, it's complete chaos, man. Lmao

P. A.

In episode 0, jester is the same dude who summoned assassin. The thing is, what happened there is alot more than just assassin killing her master. It explains why she was confused in this ep and why jester is very obsessed with her. Hopefully it will be explained down the road because these 2 backstories and relationship is very interesting.

Patrick Johnson

SO glad that Hiroyuki Sawano is doing this soundtrack. Bringing on the AOT epic vibe with all the fights

Michael Kaiser

I love it😭🔥peak can’t wait for next ep

Stephen D

Nice. I thought this was scheduled for Wednesday. I guess they couldn't wait that long.

A

I admit, I wasn't sure about this since it wasn't Ufotable animating it and I wasn't the biggest fan of the side story series, but this is AMAZING so far.

Tom

I think you guys should just re-watch the episode 0 since it explains quite clear about the situation of Jester.

Stephen D

Most of those monsters that he summoned are actually from Fate GO.

Rob Pait

Something kind of funny about Fate Strange Fake is how much of a weeb the police chief is. He has a gun that summons monsters where historically, defeating one of them makes you a legendary hero, and he just casually carries that. No, the weapon taken out in special scenarios, and is unwrapped with special ceremony is his bog standard katana.

Seraph_Dalgon_

This episode has given me more reason to hope for an actual Tsukihime anime cuz Dead Apostle lore go crazy over there amongst other things

Vinne

shirou usually ends up being at the clock tower to study up on mage craft so waver always knows of him to some extent plus his ability is hacks incarnate

Fizzy 🐉

The chruch/executor always on demon timing one of my fav parts of fate

Dede

Y’all need to re-watch episode 0. A lot of what’s going on is explained there

Maxy7maxy

I am anime only, but from what I understand the vampire guy used those people to summon Assassin, possibly by hypnotising or manipulating them. Assassin appeared and assumed the person who directly summoned her was her Master while the real one (Vampire) stayed hidden in the background. She killed that guy thinking she had eliminated her true Master, when in reality it was the vampire all along.

Archer

Just for the record, don't stress too much about getting confused about things, you guys actually understand 99% of the stuff that's been happening so far it's just that most of the confusion comes from not remembering a lot of Episode 0, if you have the time watch a short recap of Episode 0 or just take like 5 minutes to skim through it and everything will come back to you, I blame the irregular release schedule, spacing apart Episode 0 and the rest of the series kind of messed things up. Anyways, keep up the good work, you guys are my favorite Fate reactors by far!!

GG Ruby

should it be watched in dub? like since it takes place in the US yk

Tonitro

Your choice

Freeofgreed

Guys pls watch an episode 0 recap. 😭 literally everything you’ve been confused about the past 2 episodes was addressed in episode 0

meguminis.

No, he is just fated in life to be rich. Money just loves him.

meguminis.

It's A-1 Pictures, there was nothing to worry about in terms of animation.

Cancel

Jester was the same person as her master. He has 6 hearts iirc, which was shown in episode 0 on his chest like a revolver barrel. His appearance changes when he changes hearts. Assassin had crushed one of his hearts that gave him the appearance of her initial master and he "died." Then after she left he came back and switched to his current appearance.

Gravity

brother. do you have eyes? she rips the heart of Jesters first form out so he turns a cog on his chest and moves a new heart in. Leaving a black spot. He can somehow consume or generate multiple lives as a vampire. Cuz his face and body completely transformed. Go rewatch Episode 0

Gravity

He died in the episode 0. Got his heart ripped out by her. She flees. Then we cut back as hes standing up and turns a cog in his chest and puts a new beating heart in place of the black spot from where she ripped his first heart out. I think he had 6 Total so now he has 5 left. He changed his body when he did it

Abensur

But that makes it even worse cause he’s literally DESTINED to acquire wealth no matter what yet he chose to clean out a casino 😭😂

Tonitro

brother, you are mistaken because yada yada yada blah blah yap yap. Go rewatch episode 0 💢

Fizzy 🐉

Watch it in dub yourself mate

Mike A

Fate gets dunked on by a lot of people, but I really like how Roshi seems to be into it. He's out doing homework for this show on his own time, I respect it. I can't remember if the Tsukihime anime is any good or not, but I'm going to need the crew to lock in and give us the reaction series now.

salad

the tsukihime anime is abysmally bad to the point people deny its existance

PyroPhoenix

Jester was always her master. Jester just has multiple hearts, each heart transforms him I think. You see it in episode 0 when he gets up and changes from the old man to this Jester form

BZD

It’s probably a noble Phantasm too.

BZD

Though it’s arguable that Shirou’s NP’s would work against him, since they don’t technical operate under the human history, but rather Shirou’s own distorted reality.

BZD

He’s a cyborg?

Alspei

We don't acknowledge the tsukihime anime.

del

made with the church’s holiest cybernetics

Alspei

Jester just has multiple hearts. It's nothing to be that confused about, but you can go back and watch episode 0 to get a little more details about it. To answer Lupa, yeah, vampires exist in Fate, but their appearances are extremely rare. (outside of Tsukihime or Kara no Kyoukai iirc) Dead Apostles are basically the planet's answer to humanity. Basically, the planet was scared that humanity would outlive it, so it created True Ancestors/Dead Apostles to, essentially, cull them to an extent. True Ancestors are like the super elites of vampires and Dead Apostles are kinda like fodder to put it simply. They can sometimes be stronger than servants or sometimes not. If servants work with humanity, DA's are directly against it, so that's why everyone freaked out when one actually showed up and is a participant in this holy grail war.

Thunter

I didn’t even know there was an anime, and Fate is my all time favorite anime 😭

Certifiedan3

Shows like these remind me why I fell in love with fate and still keep up with what's going on.

MonarchXIII

I highly recommend watching a recap of ep 0. Cause there are some parts you shouldn't be confused on.

Kalf97

True they might. but they are still copies so at that point it could go either way. Archer shirous would definately work though, especially since hes from the future and technically has no history XD

Ukaede

The opening is sung by Jean-Ken Johnny, member of the band Man With a Mission, they also did the opening for Inuyashiki that you guys reacted a while ago.

Lucius Reinhard

Just rewatching it in full would be pretty good too, I think it would also highlight how Faldeus said the fake grail war would have no Saber and then Saber is summoned immediately in episode 1

Forgiveante2k- -

assassin's master is the same person its just that after she crushed his heart he put his hand in his chest n switched to another heart he had in his body n it made him switch forms and it showed he had at least 4 more hearts left...

lackingnames

@Kalf97 its not the noble phantasms, its because humans are wielding them. He even said that a servant using the same would hurt him.

jimbo

There is no Tsukihime anime.

sol jam

I think the original work of the author of Fate was a story about vampire hunters and Fate is an expansion of that work

Unknown

Maybe watch the movie again. Or a recap lmao

Coatl45

So it can be assumed that if he wins, then it’d be horrifically bad.

Coatl45

I love it. Gilgamesh is an ass of the highest order, but you gotta love his attitude.

Kalf97

yea... i was explaining the matchup XD natsuverse magic work in symbolism so it can confuse people.

Conk

it is that serious, if not more than serious.

Chinese Cartoons

Nasu has been writing stuff forever, Tsukihime was his first major success (major being relative here, but I promise a boatload of your favorite manga/VN authors love Nasu's stuff lol) but he actually wrote quite a bit more before that. The Garden of Sinners in 1998 was his first actual published work and the movies made from that series are what put ufotable on the map as a studio. Seriously, go look at the kind of anime they were making before the teamed up with Type Moon for the Kara no Kyoukai movies. But even before that he wrote other stories in his free time including things like Notes and Witch on the Holy Night. Notes still has a ton of background lore that Fate/Tsukihime both dip into on occasion even today - and Witch on the Holy Night got rewritten some and turned into a great VN years later - that ufotable is supposed to make a movie out of sometime after the heat death of the universe (when Demon Slayer ends)

Legion

bro..it's king richard the lionheart... he said his name a loooong time ago.

MAW

It is, because it's messing with them.

Tonitro

Tsukihime anime? Never heard of it.

Fabien

I wouldn't call it an expansion as he's been writing about both Fate/stay night and Tsukihime (or more accurately, Kara no Kyoukai) since he was in highschool. Both are in the same universe yes, what people often call the "Nasuverse", and there are vampires in it yes.

Fabien

If dead apostles are sometimes equal to servants, does that mean true ancestors are waaaay beyond servants ? (or it depends on the servant ?) Because I wondered if Arcueid could actually beat Gilgamesh or full power Saber lol ?

Alspei

Well, Arcueid is more of a true ancestor than dead apostle since she's the heir for type-moon (crimson) iirc. As a Type, she's stronger than servants by default (Gil obviously included). Against Artoria, it really wouldn't be a debate. You could attempt to make the argument of "if all the restrictions on Excalibur were removed, then what?", but that falls flat because Excalibur's seals only are removed when there's a direct threat to the planet while Arcueid is a literal manifestation of the planet sooooo you can see the issue there lol. On the topic of scaling, raw power I'd say so, but there are some hax out there that could take True Ancestors out and we all know Fate isn't short in that department. Hell, there are even some cases where Dead Apostles have killed True Ancestors too.
