Freakiness aside, the power system in this show is really interesting! Obviously there's a lot of shows about harnessing your life energy or whatever but they mostly focus on strength rather than a harmony between strength and weakness.

They had Yuzuriha bring up that theory about Gabi's wife not being real, at the same time have Gabi go thru amnesia bc of Tao overuse to throw people off. But it wasn't only his wife Gabi was forgetting, it was everybody he met recently as well. (I liked that they even had him be hostile with the group.) Yui is definitely real tho imo

So for a refresher there are 5 main ways to train Tao as said by the Tensen last ep. One of those ways is Bochu Jutsu and they even have a whole room for it in the palace. It could also be called Dual Cultivation if you know what that is; if not, then it can be summed up by you can get strong by harmonizing yin and yang, which is usually done through having sex. Despite this being an anime, the island and power system is heavily steeped in Taoist and Wuxia stuff; Dual Cultivation is a standard in a lot of stories like it

Imma steal this, Gabimaru's wife(Yui_) has to be real, because the girl was saying that the wife being an illusion would be a way to make him stronger and be more useful to the clan, but Yui taught him to be more Human. The clan would definitely not have wanted him to be taught that, they would want him to be a pure killing machine that the Chief controls, but Yui was making Gabimaru be the complete opposite of all of that, which is why Gabimaru wanted to leave the clan with her, and so the clan set him up to get arrested and executed.

It's shame I like when it's any two of you. Obviously react however you want, but it's one of those few dense serious story telling ones and it seems like you spoil each other's ability to just get into and crack a joke whenever serious. I say because before the routine joke some of you sometimes seem like your getting into it, and treat it more than a bad movie watch party.

Ontop of what I said above almost all things have a reason and usually isn't one dimensional. The sexism and Mr. Onehand are obviously to reflect the times. It's trying to be accurate. It wasn't some taboo then. Mei was originally an adult when she was kicked out etc, so it's only returning, (although I totally see where you are coming from the story is just reinforcing certain rules of the island/Practices. It's less about omg boobs and more jeez she used it twice what will happen to her by the end, real sad imo. Anyway not being a dick like above I love when you guys find an anime to get deep into. Even those when you're alone understanding what's going on is really cool. Thanks for the work to make these reactions etc though and being consistent on it.

Gabimaru’s description of Yui is far too detailed to be purely illusion. Something like that would be kept vague by the village chief, as detailed illusions are prone to inconsistencies. The thought that Yui is a real person and is just playing Gabimaru to keep him under control is a good one, but then she wouldn’t have steered him towards wanting to leave the village. So I am leaning towards her and his relationship with her being real.

Exactly. I genuinely don't understand how anyone believes that his wife isn't real. It makes zero sense for her not to be especially as Yuzuriha's theory that his wife isn't real was pure speculation based on his age. Like there is zero evidence to support the idea that she isn't real while there is a shit ton of evidence to support the idea that she is.
