Masters would underestimate novices at times, or not consider a possibility that would seem too obvious and risky to be taken. The obvious choice is overlooked by people all the time. But honestly, this was their only option. They couldn’t run the risk of meeting the newcomers on the island, and they couldn’t delay and risk the newcomers securing the Elixer before them. So waiting for battle to be joined wasn’t an option. They had to gamble on the tensen believing that the intruders didn’t know about the details of their stronghold and would go about business as usual.
