It's pretty funny that a lot of anime only's don't know Qifrey predates Gojo by 2 years, but that's just the behemoth pipeline that is Shonen Jump. I'm just glad non-Shueisha series are finally getting the AAA adaptations they deserve. We've come a long way since series like Claymore and Tokyo Ghoul got done dirty.

Lol the manga author really found a cheat sheet with the magic system. Anything technical explained is just regular art tips. The "drawing the circle in the air a few times before on paper" is a art/drawing technique called "ghosting". It really does help with any mark u make (circles, waves, straight lines, etc)

Enjoying the story a lot! Just wish Coco didn't care THAT much about the enemies, in this case, the dragon. Reminded of Tanjiro crying for the evil demons because they're misunderstood, lol. But compared to Tanjiro, it's not as bad because Coco is a little kid and very-very innocent which is why I think she's being targeted. Her curiosity and innocence is a double-edge sword. That's my theory so far.

I think it’s moreso that Qifrey seems to have some issue with Brimmed Cap witches deeper than just “forbidden magic is bad so we don’t fuck with them.” That’s probably why he went out of his way to take Coco in instead of just wiping her memory. Coco is more deeply involved because she got the evil spellbook from this eye mask guy

I highly recommend it. The animation is superb but the artistic style for the manga is truly elite and doesn't really follow the "stay in the panels" rule. Characters reach into other panels, some pages don't even have panels, and the dragon initially appeared in the center of the page with the panels showing the girls' reactions surrounding it. It's the same story, but two totally different viewing experiences

Uggggh. I just love this series, and I'm glad the anime is doing it justice. This really feels like a lived-in world where you actually have to think not only about the plan and outcome, but how to actually achieve each step. That discussion about how to make the sand condense wouldn't have been handled as well in most other series simply because "make the sand soft" would've been the extent of the discussion. Also you all haven't seen ANYTHING yet.

Btw Lupa, Agott wasn't wearing her flying shoes because those were the ones she loaned to Coco, who then got them wet and messed the conjuring ink on the bottom up. I think they showed them drying on the windowsill in the third (?) episode. I assume she just didn't have time to re-up the spell on them before they left.

Nah, I think Qifrey definitely plays a big part. Originally the only reason Qifrey was even attempting to help Coco was to get more information about the Brimmed Hats, not out of any kindness. That's why he was worried that they had messed with her memories. And remember the black female witch called him a "problem child". Plus he had his own reservations about living at their home base. It seems like he's apart of this magic world, but is still an "outsider" that doesn't share all the same views as them. I wouldn't be surprised if the Brimmed Hats also targeted and manipulated him into joining or using forbidden magic at one point....

The brimmed cap either did something to Coco herself or the cap. He had whatever that seal was pre-made. Qifrey is ready for the smoke, the slow buildup of the closing music after encouraging her, only to hard cut entirely at his glance was excellent.

Loved the detail in the background when the Brimmed Cap witch had Coco, there were spikes that are reminiscent of the "Long-term nuclear waste warning messages" architecture, structures that are hypothetically meant to deter future civilizations in 10,000 years from nuclear waste buried underground.
