You are right, but the interesting thing they did note this episode is that the brimmed caps might draw seals on themselves to make their spells more potent (maybe that is why his blood makes the spells more powerful?). That and that mixing stuff into ink gives it other effects... kinda deepened the magic a bit for me. Also there has to be some level of mental input cause how do you control the water dragon or the banners they had this episode? Maybe I'm wrong, but intent at least matters to some degree from what I can tell. And someone with the right intent or mindset could maybe be better at using their casted spells.

If drawing spells on thier body(the brimmed caps) enhances them that still dosent make it any different if somone else were to the same. Its only that the witches dont do it because its forbidden but its still not 'inate' magical ability. Plus im sure if you knew how to draw the spell that Qifrey cast you'd get the same outcome no? Thats why I like the magic system in this anime its Purely knowledge and testing based.

Of course but you can tell this is scratching the surface and we only have 4 more eps of this season and it took 3 years to make this season. The story is going to progress kinda slowely to us even though a lot has happened up and until this point.

so what we got flat from the episode is that magic can't (from what we were told) to heal wounds, it can gain certain properties by being mixed with stuff, there's ways to make magic invisible (super dangerous) and also last longer, and mixing it with blood can enhance potency by like 100 fold. also theres a condition that makes you colorblind entirely, and also it seems like nobody really knows about mixing blood with ink??? for some reason??? like, why was he so surprised? also, it might be that coco is actually worse than we know, since even with the ink she had, she only managed to create very small flames and such?

(Obviously without spoiling) I will say that WHA does an amazing job showing how the magic system they have in place not only works for the world but it also gets you to see how this particular system challenges fantasy worlds and the way storytelling is done. With this specific episode, I'd say it was one of the starting points of seeing that (Tarta and Custas being the examples of this)

nahhhh i think quifrey is good cuz they r making him look TOO SUS when it's still very early in the show. characters like this usually turn out to be on the good side. he prob just hate the brimmed hat guy so much cuz he did something to his family or wtever. also, he's tanjiro's va i've never seen him play any villain role lol

i can def relate to Lupas hate for the knight moralis 😭 even though the art, world building and storyline is great, this only became my favorite manga after the theme of disabilities was introduced. Shirahamas writing is beautiful and i can’t wait to see more of it animated! just like roshi said im gna be so sad when this ends 😭

Nah, Qifrey stated in earlier episodes that healing magic is strictly forbidden too, it's not just attack/harmful spells it's doing casting circle directly into the body that is prohibited in it's intereity

I always put [title] + [manga] + [online], then use an ad blocker because clicking on chapters or the "next" button opens pop-ups. This is only if I can't find it anywhere, some sites have a free viewing option, but that's if you're reading it right as the chapter drops XD otherwise you have to pay. Also, I got 96 chapters to read for witch hat atelier, so I'm not spending money to catch up right now. If I like it enough, I'll buy once I'm done, as I did with Attack on Titan.

How much y'all wanna bet Quifrey has a silverwash eye and its being corrected with those glasses. He said "witches tend to look down on exceptions". Quifrey isn't like other witches and doesn't seem to be on good terms with most of them. They probably looked down on him and his methods so he spites a lot of them. Bonus if the brimmed caps are the ones that gave him it.

2nd watch thoughts -- Is it possible Quifrey was originally apart of the Knights Moralis? How would he even know that type of forbidden magic since only the knights know how to seal memories. He was also on first name basis with the main knight. It would also explain why he has so many offensive spells and quick reflexes 🤔
