It's not a problem. That choice is just a problem for you. Her losing the connection isn't bad writing. There is nothing about her losing the connection that makes it bad writing. It is actually the best choice they could've made. For the next seasons, Korra isn't as overpowered as she was throughout this season. She can't get some extra unearned help from her past lives.

Nd Can we stop wit the aang comparison already, she is fighting the literal reincarnation of evil while aang was fighting humans😒. Not to forget he had the support of toph( the best earth bender like ever) nd katara ( a master water bender) nd many others while Korra is doing this all alone🤦🏼‍♂️

Who's really at fault is the writers for this overblown spirit world storyline. They was just writing anything chile... It all feels so inconsistent with both franchises

The past lives REALLY aren't that important as a function of the avatar. Esp since most of the opinions of the past have no bearing on korras time. The past life of any avatar is a singularity in time that they can remember, so they can't give advice on current affairs only on their past experiences. Said experience may be similar but ultimately it's the current avatars job to do as they see fit within their time period. Aang purposefully destroyed his connection with roku and the past lives because he felt he had nothing else to learn. Korra at the very least never intended for this to happen

He didn't destroy it he hampered it and realized he was foolish for it and restored the connection. Korra straight up just destroyed her connection to the past lives. The avatar state also gets stronger with every new avatar since it just builds upon itself
