I don't think Ushijima is necessarily being a dick. What he meant by "confidence that has no basis" is that Hinata is unproven. Ushijima has won their prefecture several times, been to nationals several times and represented Japan on the world stage. So Ushijima was probably feeling insulted when Hinata, with no substantial experience, pulled up and said he would beat him.

Ushijima isn't being a dick. The dude means that Hinata has no receiving skills, blocking skills, or anything other than jumping. That's what he means by "no basis." Ushijima is just a blunt and honest guy. He isn't trying to be a douche lol.

Just to let you guys know, there are 5 sets but they need to win 3 to continue ( basically best 3 out of 5 ). So they don’t have four sets left to figure it out they only have 2-3 more depending if they win some or not. They don’t really have much time to adjust.

Yeah I know that line was offputting for alot of reactors but I don't think he was being a dick, the facts are that Hinata told Ushijima that he would beat HIM (an established ace the powerhouse school who won and went to nationals every year with him). Meanwhile Hinata's overalls skills are still lacking in like blocking, defense and serving so he was ineffective in the first set blowout, which goes against what he showed and said when they met. Hinata's confidence is like fierce as fuck but the mans is still a first year.

Yeah Ushijima will go into further depth about why he doesn’t like Hinata. It has to do with how Hinata is trash at everything except spiking and jumping. He respected Hinata for not being intimidated at first but when he saw him play he was like oh so he’s a one trick pony.

also players tape their fingers not just because they got their fingers fucked or sumn, sometimes they’ll tape both their index and middle finger together to avoid hurting the fingers webbing because of the impact of the ball. (pretty sure some dateko MB do that) hisoka’s murder child is also a MB which explains why he has his taped as well

Imagine training all your life to be a top 3 ace in the country, winning tournament after tournament, representing your prefecture at nationals, and playing for Japan on the world stage, and someone who hasn't done any of that, comes up to you and say 'I'll beat you', despite having sub-par receiving, blocking and serving skills, only a go-to quick, and someone who's just been offered the opportunity to play high school volleyball. From Ushijima's perspective, Hinata has not won anything and therefore has no real basis in believing that he could beat him. He ain't being a douche, he's just saying that from his view
