Qifery’s “Eyeball” comment is really interesting to me cause, initially I got excited thinking maybe all the Brimmed caps have a cool name associated with a trait about them like, the masked Witch wears the eyeball mask so they’re known as “The Eyeball” but the Subs didn’t capitalize it so my guess is when Qifery first saw them with the mask, he just started calling them “the eyeball” maybe I also have a theory about the eyeball motif in general: I think one of the things that was stolen from Qifery was his eye, the one that’s constantly blocked out by his glasses and now the masked Witch is constantly taunting Qifery by wearing that mask Edit: you came to the same guess lol, W 😂

What I like about Witch Hat is the gray in the decision when Qifrey talks about the Healing Witches before the Pact happened. He talks about the Twinned Bottle spell being a spell to share valuable medicine but just an episode ago we saw it used for destruction a dry up a riverbed. The witches doing this Pact aren’t evil villains or dumb. I can’t wait for us to get more with the Brimmed Caps and see what their ideology is beyond revealing big secret of magic maybe to Outsiders.

the Healing Witches weren't really part od the Brimmed Caps itself. They were fighting Three Sages when the Pact was established, so I suppose that just were their standard caps.

Just learned the most fun of facts! The hex code “C0C000” yields the color of Coco’s hair, and the hex code “00C0C0” yields the color of Qifrey’s apprentice’s uniforms! Shirahama’s attention to detail is unmatched!

I swear, with each episode Qifrey becomes more and more grey in his actions. The whole thing with the history of the twinned bottles was fascinating, but it did beg the question for me of how on earth Qifrey knows this. Like, isn't that information supposed to have been lost when the healer witches memories were erased? As I understand it. there shouldn't be any records of it that Qifrey should know, and yet, he does know. Tetiah wanting to make her cap a doubled-pointed cap is something that surprised me was allowed. I thought that any variation of cap would not be permitted in a society that literally named their villains by the shape of their caps. Richeh's whole aversion to tests and wanting to do things her way was NOT what I thought her persinality was going to be, but I really appreciate the conflict. Each of these girls have such distinct personalities, and that's wonderful. Also, Richeh and Agott having such contrasting personalities, with one wanting to comply, as fast as possible with societies demands and the other one wanting to forge her own path is a lot of fun. Coco is the sweetest bean, and it hurts me so much that she is plagued by nightmares. A detail I love about this episode is how the opening with Coco drawing a too strong wind seal that ends up blowing that branch into Qifrey becomes foreshadowing for her drawing too long lines for her seal on Agott's shoes. She is improving, she knows all these new seals, but she is still struggling into sizing them right, and I appreciate the slow progress she's making. Tarta playing with non witches is so interesting. I love that we see that because of his disability he is much more accepting of others than his peers - because I can't see a witch kid playing with non witches considering everything we've learned about them - and I love that so much. You know, where are Tarta's parents in a question I've made myself, and as much as I hate the idea, I also can't stop thinking that they might not have wanted a "defective" kid, and that maybe Nolnoa was the only one that wanted him. Of course, I have absolutely ZERO proof for this, and that is an admittedly dark scenario, but that's half where my mind is on the matter. The other half things that they just passed and Nolnoa had to step in and take care of his grandson, which would be a much more ideal situation and the one I hope is true.

Love love love the lore about the twinned bottle spell. The idea that it was the faction of Healing witches that held out the longest against the pact makes sense to me. People who want to help will keep trying to do it for as long as they can until they're literally unable to, and I feel like they're a good representation of that. I think it's interesting that The Masked Witch didn't share any words with Qifrey, but I suppose this was less of a social call and more of a "stop tampering with my plans, man, this bottle wasn't meant for YOU" situation. I think a dynamic I love that doesn't get explored as much is the differences between Tetia and Agott's plans for the future, so I was happy to hear you mention it when comparing all the girls. The way I see it, Tetia has the "emotional" aspect of her future down. She doesn't discuss the academic side of it. She's instead focusing on how she wants to interact and help and how her magic can help her achieve that! Meanwhile with Agott, I definitely see her considering the academic accomplishments that are required of what she considers a "successful" future. I think it's a really nice portrayal of how two people can have similar paths but the difference on what they want out of their future is what deviates them.

Yesss, technically they have brimmed caps, but it's more for a visual distinction between them! Thanks for the comment and noting that!

WHAAAAATTT - That is SO cool! I love that little detail! Thank you for noting that and the comment!

Glad we reached a similar conclusion! I guess we'll see what the series gives us in terms of answers! Thanks for the comment!

OH yeah, the layers of how technology (or magic) can be used for good deeds or those evil is totally getting explored and I’m here for it! I’m very excited to see more on the Brimmed Caps and the ideologies of Multiple BC’s, not just our Masked Witch out here trying to make Coco into Magic Jesus for their cause. ;) Thank you so much for the comment!

Our Owl Man does get sketchier and sketchier, doesn’t he? I thought the twin bottles was intriguing, but yes, how does Qifrey know about this? THAT is a great question to ask! I wonder that about the double-pointed cap – maybe Qifrey wasn’t wanting to rain on her parade? Hmmm…and yes, I was not expecting Richeh to have this personality trait revealed, but it is refreshing to see how our girls are all different! I definitely feel for our girl, Coco! And oooh, that’s a great point about the foreshadowing with the Shoes she draws back for Agott! At least she’s progressing, but I love that she’s not “perfect.” It’s more realistic that way. I love that we’re getting more into Tartah, his disability, and how he is a part of “both” societies in a way. I’m so sat and wanting to learn more about this side of the world-building! Ooohh, the idea that Tartah’s family “abandoned” him is really sad…I would like to think that - sadly - they just passed and Nolnoa is raising him, but yeah, that other scenario would be so sad! Thank you so much for the comment - I’m SO ready to see what happens next in this series!

The twin bottle spell lore is SO intriguing, right?! And yes, the idea that these people had formed a resistance to keep helping those and believing in their cause…you can feel the power behind that movement, even if it was overall failed. The SILENCE with the Masked Witch could have been strategic to make sure Qifrey didn’t recognize his voice, but I love that idea that it was a silent STATEMENT to say, “not for YOU.” That is really powerful! Oh yeahhh, I really want to learn more about these girls, their plans, and what’s led them to get to that point! The layers with all of these girls is SO GOOD and the series does an incredible job with this. Thank you for the comment!

I think one of my favorite visual details in this episode is the ink in Coco’s nightmare. When she’s running through it it’s pitch black, but when she’s drowning in the bottle the ink has the blue tint that indicates that blood’s been mixed in

romaniablack

Yessss, that is SUCH a good little detail to make note of! Great to point out - thank you so much for that and the comment!
