And we are back, baby!!!! And with LU GUANG BACKSTORY!!!! The way that first episode tugged at my poor heartstrings is real. I was suffering with baby Guang being treated so horribly. I'm glad he got arrested there. So... they were childhood friends, and the most adorable little babies ever. Seriously, they were so precious and I hate that it had to be ripped from them. Lu Guang running to the train tracks after his adoptive dad gets arrested to wait for Cheng Xiaoshi because he has become his comfort and safe place makes my heart squeeze so hard. I GASPED so hard when I saw that shadowy figure looking at baby Guang while he waited that night, it kinda looked like the yellow jacket we've seen Cheng Xiaoshi wearing, and it made me think that he went back into a photo to watch over baby Guang. Just, the whole fact that baby Xiaoshi didn't show up, and then he completely forgot Lu Guang seems to indicate that there is a lot more going on there. I agree with your theory that maybe baby Xiaoshi went home that day and told his parents what he could do now, and they got scared for his safety (?) and somehow made him forget, and subsequently went away to maybe try to keep Xiaoshi safe. I can see everything connecting from here, I just don't like the threads that are being shown so far. Gosh, I so understand what you mean that you need to remember that the LA is not canon for the anime, because I keep trying to make connections and having to catch myself xD Just, the doomed yaoiness of these two is unbearable. I love them so much. Is it so hard to let them be happy Li Haoling? And then, because we didn't have enough with the child abouse in episode 1, we're hit the unwitting/forced soliciting of episode 2. Which is trauma for two, because is not only Xia Fei going through it, but also Xiaoshi now. Fun. From what I read online, the language in the board in the hotel that they take Xia Fei too is Thai, I believe, and it's also, apparently, complete gibberish. Except, someone was able to find the word "time" in there, of course. Yeah, I don't see that woman from Bridon being there as a coincidence at all. But what does it mean, I don't know. Does she have powers? Or is she connected to people with powers somehow? Li Tianchen just, being there is not something that I thought we would have so soon. Does that mean that Liu Xiao is involved in this whole thing? I wouldn't be surprised one bit if he were. What's their goal, though? Aside from making money, I don't see any other angle for them to have kidnapped these people... It's all very mysterious. I do love that we have confirmation that the powers of our three main guys are past, present, and future. CX with the power to travel to the past, QL having inherited, presumably, the power to inhabit the present of someone else, and LG being able to see the future. It's very cool that their photo studio is called "Time" photo studio when between the three of them they literally can control time in its whole. You know, it will never not be funny to me how the very first ED told us to "not overthink it" AND HOW THAT TURNED OUT TO BE A COMPLETE LIE from the very beginning. This show always gives some answers that only lead to a thousand more questions. Amazing.

I'll timestamp my comments for the discussion, as there is so much content that I want to talk about from these two episodes. 30:10 The original phrase for "recreational activity" is "ice skating/溜冰," and it's a slang for taking illegal drugs, while "ice" is mainly referred to as methamphetamine or something similar. Lu Dashan used this slang to ask Lu Guang to confirm if the target is taking illegal drugs for extortion. While Lu Guang nodded to him, Lu Dashan failed to use this information to blackmail the target, so Lu Guang probably answered without understanding the slang, and he might have witnessed something else, which is likely about adult activities like sex based off Lu Guang's reaction (or his tired expression was just coming from using his ability starving.) FYI, the translation on Crunchyroll or Bilibili is provided by a translation company who is hired by Bilibili, while there are many minor translation errors, like they mistranslated 5:30pm to 5pm or they didn't translate the on-screen texts (possibly because they're translating only through the dialogue script). The subtitles you used are from another streaming distributor Ani-mi Asia themselves. The Crunchyroll translation used "drug" as a dumbed-down translation that stays closer to the original meaning, while "recreational activity" keeps the slang feel of the original phrase, but it also makes the meaning of the translation more vague. "Recreational activity" is more likely getting the audience second guessing what Lu Guang might have seen in the photo than the "drug" translation. Even though the Crunchyroll translation is more faithful to the original meaning in comparison, the Ani-mi Asia translation delivered their understandings of the narrative while slightly deviated from the original. 36:00 There is a scene with forest in S2 OP about opposing characters and shifting identifies among Cheng Xiaoshi, Lu Guang, (possessed) Qiao Ling and Li Tianchen. However, there are scenes about a train/subway station or a train station tunnel across S1, S2 and S3. 37:50 There are language experts who have traced some of the blurred-out text to be full-fledged text for the two episodes, but there isn't anything that stands out yet. A small section of the text from the S3 OP gets blurred out as well. 38:20 The BGM used in this segment is a new arrangement of "Laspe" from the Bridon Arc. I felt like the misspelling of "Lapse" as "Laspe" was only a tribute to how Vivian misspelled her online name as "Vivan," yet she claimed that she was a student in Bridon, as if she was well-versed in English. Now that this song is used in Lu Guang's backstory, the misspelling might indicate the small derailment/mistake between Lu Guang and Cheng Xiaoshi for the forgotten promise. 43:35 Rewind about 10 seconds before this part when Cheng Xiaoshi first entered the camera view, there is a timecode displayed on Lu Guang's camera that indicates 17:30/5:30pm, which is the time Cheng Xiaoshi had promised to meet again.

55:20 Lu Guang wasn't living in a juvenile home but a "children's welfare home" or orphanage. Children under 12 cannot be sent to juvenile detention because they are legally below the age of criminal responsibility, but the orphanage did seem to ignore his growth because of his father's bad reputation. Lu Dashan seemed to have a formal adoption license for Lu Guang, but it could be handled through bribery, as there wasn't much usage of digitalized records in the early 2000s in China. 59:40 It's a fictional language that resembles a foreign language, which is a very specific language that is only being recognized as an official language in "that country." The Link Click production team creates a story based off a real-world event, using a fictionalized setting instead of the actual name to avoid legal issues or controversies, similar to what they did with Bridon and London. 1:01:35 Both translations have neglected the reference of "cowherd" and just call it "host" in this scene instead. Some audiences were confused about why Qiao Ling wanted to search for the term "host," but "cowherd" was only used as slang for host in China since the 1970s. China has also carried out laws to ban paid hosts in public entertainment facilities like karaoke since 2006, so the slang might be less common than the mythology in China if you aren't exposed to it online. Speaking of cowherd, the Qixi Festival for 2026 is August 19th. Given the series has always been airing on Friday, I'd say airing EP2 on the Friday before the Qixi Festival is the closest date that a deliberate tie-in can be done. There could be more deliberate tie-ins with referencing special dates if we're keeping up with the current airing schedule for S3P1. The group BaishaJAWS who made the OP for previous seasons and the ED for Cdrama were disbanded last June, but the vocalist Michael Yu is still writing and composing for this OP except for being the main singer. It's likely that the OP style changed because there's a narrative change along with the singer change. There are some spoiler talks (not lore wise but just how they packaged it) with some comments from official creators about the OP so I'll skip on discussing it.

Yessss I'm so happy u watch both episodes yay

I'm so bad with details and dates, because I didn't even note the different dates of their first meeting(s). 💀 Your discussion was so enlightening to me because I don't browse the Link Click community, so a lot of these theories are new to me. Lu Guang's backstory made me tear up because I always saw myself in him— how he initially seems so driven by logic and reason, but he's actually SO emotional. Seeing him be treated like that made me super sad. 😭 He was allowed only a few months to be a kid in Cheng Xiaoshi's presence— the best, scant moments of his life— only for Cheng Xiaoshi to forget him. The only person who ever knew SAW him and gave him a sense of belonging!!! The sheer longing and relief in Lu Guang's eyes when he meets Cheng Xiaoshi again and then the clear heartbreak afterwards absolutely killed me. 😭💀💀 LI HAOLIN, WHEN I CATCH YOU!!!! In the first episode of season 1, Qiao Ling mentions that Lu Guang is younger than Cheng Xiaoshi, though we still don't know by how much. I'm so glad you were able to get a version that shows you what was written on the sign that Cheng Xiaoshi put up at the railroad tracks. I watched on Crunchyroll and almost threw my phone in frustration because they didn't translate it, and Crunchyroll doesn't allow screenshots in either app or mobile browser for me to put through a translation app. So, I had no idea what it said until now. 🥺 When you have time, you should check out the full song and lyrics for the OP!! It really is just punch after punch after punch. 🤧

I'm so glad it worked out! Thank you for the comment!

I honestly have not been “great” with remembering a lot of the fine details, but I felt okay this week! Let’s hope that holds out! 😀 I felt so much for Lu Guang! Yesss, he seems like “Spock” on the outside, but there is a LOT of emotion in there! I wanted to give him the biggest hug this week! And for Cheng Xiaoshi to forget him? Nooooooo! Yes, let’s all go after Li Haolin for this development! Oh nooo, I would have been SO frustrated if the signs weren’t translated! I’m glad you were able to see it through this at least! And yesss, I usually wait until the end of the season to look at the full OP lyrics (since sometimes they can reveal hints to the season) but I will be hyped to see them! Thank you for the comment!

10:24 thank goodness you have the Ani-Mi Asia subs. They're so much better than what Bilibili and Crunchyroll have. 27:05 Lu Guang is younger than Cheng Xiaoshi, so he's actually probably more like 7 40:45 They're definitely talking about his adoptive father, I'm sure. Nobody will cry over Lu Dashan. Part of me wonders if Lu Guang grieves him at all as many abused kids have conflicting feelings about their parents dying, but Lu Guang might not have any attachment to him. 43:44 I think this is still the "first" timeline. Lu Guang took the photo of the sky, which is what he ended up using in Bridon Arc. It doesn't matter for what purpose he took the photo (and I don't think he took it as an intentional way to use for time travel later). He probably remembered that it was an important moment (meeting CXS again) and wanted to keep it on hand Basically, the "timeline" where LG met CXS and CXS didn't know him is the same timeline where CXS was murdered by Vein at the start of the Bridon Arc.

It hurts how much of Lu Guang is recontextualized via his abuse... His likes include sunbathing and he's not picky with food He has a habit of holding his head when he is stressed out He also tends to curl into himself when he's upset Though I have seen some people say that this is why he's short and like....yeah, I'm sure being starved as a child may have affected his body, but he's not teeny tiny. He's 5'9". He's still taller than the average man in China lmao

romaniablack

Right?! This one episode alone has made the fandom completely recontextualize Lu Guang and I want to give him the biggest hug!

romaniablack

Thank you - Patron Raky has been super kind to get me the Ani-Mi Asia subs! I really felt for Lu Guang in this episode; his adoptive father is awful. Honestly, we just don’t know about the timelines - he could have taken the same sky picture, under different circumstances – but the way that things go down in this episode IS different than episode 1 of the Bridon Arc, so we’ll just have to wait and see! I do think that theory about LG and CXS and him not knowing him being the timeline where CXS murdered him makes sense, though! Thanks for the comment!

There is SO MUCH content in this series to get through! I love it, though! Ooohhh, that is good to know about “recreational activity,” thank you for noting that! Thank you for all the notes connecting the seasons as well! I appreciate that! That timestamp! Someone noted it in the Discord and now my heart is broken all over the place about it! UGHHHHH!!

romaniablack

Thank you for the information on the Children’s Welfare Home - I thought those were two separate occasions, so good to know! And yessss, I like we’re already getting references to the Chibi Series with the cowherd! Thanks for not spoiling on the OP, but that is interesting to note about the band - thank you so much for these comments! They were super helpful! 😀

WE ARE BACCCCKKKK! AHHHH!!! I just wanted to give Lu Guang the BIGGEST hug after these episodes! I hadn’t thought about that with the shadowy figure!! That would be wild! I think the parents definitely will have a big part in this third season and I’m so glad I’m not the only one that has to stop themselves from connecting backstory from the LA with these two into the donghua! XD Li Hoalin just out here sipping on our tears. XD And yes, heartbreak episode 1 and immediate trauma in episode 2! The woman from Bridon seems like not a coincidence at all, but to what effect? And why does she have Liu Xiao’s surname? SUSPICIOUS. And I was NOT ready to see Li Tianchen this soon! I really am nervous for him being there! I love the mystery but it can be nervewracking! And that is SO COOL about the past, present, and future portions! YES!! I have things I want to say about that and the Bridon Trio for sure! AHAHAHA The first ED was such a tease! XD I love it, though! Thank you for the comment! It’s so good to be back!
