I applaud this mangaka SO MUCH -- I had so many expectations for this episode and everyone of them was subverted in the best way! This was such a great example of modern Shonen at work and I was happy to be along for the trippy ride! Now...come on, Zanka! ;)

I'm so excited! I know the comment you're talking about. It's completely my theory. No spoilers from me, if it's true I'll be happy. I would never spoil on purpose, and Mods would hopefully delete if I did. The E is consistent in the show. at least You see it for the Exit sign in the underground too. But it's a made up language so who knows. So, that's my theory. Zanka's Lovely will 'level up' I like the Riyo was 1st. It fits their dynamic. Poor Zanka, getting emoted on. One day, Zanka will beat Jabbers face into the floor, and it will be soooooooo good. My theory totally made up by me is that Hyo isnt a natural talent. She just had to fight to survive. Naw, what the shippers saw was Jabber say, "Maybe I should have picked a different cleaner" and then Zanka's eyes go crazy and he starts laughing hysterically until he cries.

I really love that Zanaka actually loses and doesn't get his last minute power up. It makes him feel much more real to me. Its not often we get to see the good guys actually fail in a meaningful way. Also I agree that Hyo is so cool. She makes a great foil for Zanaka and is just awseome on her own. I love the way this episode plays with expectations both in the flash back and in the present.

Right?! I was so floored the creator ACTUALLY had the guts to follow through with it -- it is such a subversion to see a main character fail -- and yes, Hyo is so interesting! The way this episode went against everything I expected was in the best way! Thank you for the comment! #JusticeforZanka at least Jabber's having a great time! :P

Thank you for being diligent about spoilers; I appreciate that! And yesss, that's so interesting with the lettering in this series – I’m curious about the language and how Zanka will level up after this battle! Poor him! I am all about the theories folks have on Hyo and I would love to see more of her and more of Zanka’s past as we go! The shippers for Janka are WILD to be sure, but I respect it 100% – thank you so much for the comments!!

I was rewatching/listening cause I'm neurotic like that, and staring back and forth at all the letters again. It almost looks like the Cleaners lettering on their weapons might be a different font than Jabbers? Zanka and Riyos are kinda soft, bubbly/flowy looking runes. Jabbers looks blocky and sharp, like a techno style? That could be a thing causing the discrepancy. I love this kind of stuff though. I have faith that the author isn't just making up random shapes. It's supposed to be their names after all.

Ahhhh, honestly, I really like the idea of the languages having variations based on the location/origin of the users -- that would be cool and could explain why the lettering looks like that, perhaps? I'm really curious if we'll get into more of that with the language later in the series -- but thank you for the comment - there's still some really mysterious parts of this series that have me excited to see where it will go! :D
