πŸ€ŽπŸ–€ Every watercolor artist needs a solid range of browns, blacks, and neutrals in their palette, whether you want transparent, "glazeable" options for skin tones and soft flower shadows, rich earth pigments full of natural granulating texture, or even a couple of super-granulating and shimmering options for decorative and abstract work. Browns, blacks, and neutrals are essential if you love painting animals, portraits, florals, architecture, or warm, cozy fall landscapes. To make things easier, I've put together a handy swatch guide to go along with my brand-new video on essential watercolor browns, blacks, and neutrals.

πŸ“„ Grab the PDF in the attachment below (swatches + pigment codes).πŸ“ By popular demand, the swatch templates I personally use are also attached below, sized for 12 Γ— 16" paper, with a smaller version for 8.5 Γ— 11" sheets too.πŸŽ₯ Watch the full video YouTube review ad-free here on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/AnnaBucciarelli/posts/171235600/🎨 Watch and download all the other color family reviews in this collection here: https://www.patreon.com/collection/99366

How can I get this to print on Arches 140# watercolor paper wih my printer? does anyone have a printer that will print on watercolor paper???

Anna Bucciarelli

Hi Mark! Thanks so much for your question. I'm honestly not aware of any home-use, non-commercial printers that can handle thick cotton paper like Arches 140 lb. It's just too heavy and textured for most standard printers, and it can jam or damage the feed rollers. I shared the printout mainly so folks could see the layout, and I don't think most people were planning to print it directly onto their watercolor paper. I usually draw the outlines myself with a ruler, which only takes a few minutes and gives nice clean lines. If you'd like to transfer it more exactly, a lightbox works beautifully. Another option is graphite transfer paper, which you slip between the printout and your watercolor paper and then trace over. Happy painting! 🎨 Anna

Arches 140# hot pressed paper goes through my Epson Ecotank inkjet printer. I have to remove all the other printer paper from the tray and use only one piece of Arches at a time. Cold pressed paper jammed, but the hot pressed didn’t.

Mark Hines

Donna, thank you for replying! What model Epson do you have. I have both an ET-8550 and ET-15000.

Anna - curious on what your thoughts are on Rembrandt Black Spinel Grey PBk26 recommended by Kimberly Crick

I have Brother HL-L2460DW and it prints on cold press 140 lb great. Open the manual feed in the back and it goes straight through.
