This video will be coming out later this weekend on YouTube, but I thought I'd give everyone here an early link 💜 I put this together in response to one of the most frequent watercolor questions I get: how to choose pigments for every painting, and how to decide on color variations within the same color family (for example, different shades violet on the flower I used for the cover above) . In this video I will explain my process using the color wheel method, and show you how you can start "extending" your palette (and expanding your pigment options!) using deeper understanding of light and color theory.

Enjoy!

HOW TO CHOOSE COLORS 💜 Watercolor Palette Explained

#colortheory #paintingtips #watercolortips One of the most frequent watercolor questions I get is how I choose my pigments for every painting. In this video I will explain exactly how I decide on color variations within the same color "family", and how you can start "extending" your palette and expanding your color choices using deeper understanding of light and color theory. That makes so much since. I know when mixing you want to keep warm with warms and cool with cool. You made picking pallets easier. thank you

I need a lesson on color theory

Anna Bucciarelli

Thank you! 💜 I am glad - it could be an intuitive process (it was for me in the beginning) but I find that having some theory behind it really helps!

I will look for good foundational videos on this - There is one channel that I absolutely adore on YT. The guy is an oil painter but he is excellent at giving foundational art lectures.

Please teach us how to do these beautiful azeala's

Anna Bucciarelli

Hi Debra, unfortunately I lost most of my video footage for this flower (this was a few months ago and I have bought a new hard drive since). I have many reference photos and will put this on my to-do list for future tutorials ! 💜

Anna Bucciarelli

Hi Helene, as I mentioned above I lost the majority of video files for this flower (my hard drive couldn’t handle). I have many other reference photos of this flower and will put this on my to-do list! 💕 thank you!

Cydney Woods

Hi, I love your work and you have been my watercolor teacher since I started. You got me started on Skillshare and now I joined Patreon just because of you. I love this project, If you are not going to teach it again, could you provide the color paints you used? Thanks, Cyd

Anna Bucciarelli

Thank you Cydney! I really appreciate it. What started as occasional classes on SkillShare grew to more regular tutorials now on Patreon thanks to the amazing support from other watercolor artists like you. Unfortunately this one never became a tutorial because soem of the files were corrupted but Let me get the full list for colors for you [main one is Quinacridone Violet from W&N - i built the palette around it!]
