Hello everyone! I received several inquiries this week about an old Christmas YouTube tutorial on Poinsettia - it's never too early to start getting ready for the holiday season :) Specifically, you were asking for the outline and my reference image.

πŸŽ„ I just created an outline (JPG is available below). The reference was  entirely from my head - I just took the best of what I love about pionsettia colors and leaf shapes - and it's also available as a JPG below. This is an old video where I no longer have the real-time footage, but I am preparing  to paint lots more holiday themed tutorials for you in real time starting October!

I am a beginner, but I loved this. I got a little lost in the center but am happy with the result.

Hi Anna, I am a watercolor painter but have become obsessed with your tutorials! I have been binge watching them all on youtube the past couple of days. As a thank you I have become one of your patrons. I adore your style, use of color and composition, method of teaching and even your calming voiceovers. I have a particular question about this piece - do you start painting the leaves wet on dry for the first wash, or do you slightly dampen the paper first? Also, what is your favorite paper to use? I have always used Arches 140 cold pressed but I always like to try recommendations of materials from other artists. Thank you for sharing your videos with us! I cant wait for any new ones you may have planned :)

Thank you Elaine! I hope you enjoy the videos 🧑 I only opened up my patreon on late May of this year, so you will notice the tutorials get more detailed over time as I tweak my teaching style based on feedback. To answer your questions: I rarely pre-wet the paper, i usually go in with lighter color and add more wet-in-wet. I find it's easier to see this way. In terms of the paper, Arches is always a safe bet, lately I am liking the new winsor & newton bright white cold pressed blocks. They are a bit cheaper. I almost always paint on 140 lbs blocks because I don't like stretching:) I haven't found any others that match the quality yet. Let me know if you have any other questions! Have a wonderful day -A
