The two mime waiters are Billy Crystal and Dana Carvey. Billy Crystal was already pretty well known at the time. Dana was completely unknown, but that would change in another 2 years when he would join SNL and immediately become a fan favorite. Duke Fame's manager is actor Howard Hessman who rose to fame on the sitcom WKRP in Cincinatti, where he played Rock DJ 'Dr. Johnny Fever'. He later starred in the sitcom Head of the Class as a teacher. 'Artie Fufkin' is musician/bandleader Paul Shaffer, (David Letterman's sidekick for 20+ years.) Paul was in the original SNL band, and served as bandleader for the RnR Hall of Fame for many years. The bit with the violin is an homage to Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin who played a portion of a song on his guitar with a violin bow. The Air Force Lieutenant is legendary comedian/actor Fred Willard. You may know him from Everybody Loves Raymond. He appears in all of Christopher Guests films. Yes, they did release an actual self-titled album "Spinal Tap" in 1984 that served as the movie soundtrack. The album cover was all black, just like 'Smell the Glove'. The album is a fake 'greatest hits' album, with all 11 songs listed as coming from previous albums (Intravenus d Milo, Shark Sandwich, etc).

Real musicians in the film: Paul Schaffer (Artie Fufkin)- keyboards SNL Band, The Blues Brothers, David Letterman shows, RnR HoF band leader. R.J. Parnell (drummer Mick Shrimpton)- drummer, Atomic Rooster David Kaff (keyboards Viv Savage)- keyboard player, Rare Bird, Spinal Tap Danny Kortchmar (Ronnie Pudding) guitarist, songwriter Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, etc. Paul Shortino (Duke Fame)- singer, Rough Cutt, Quiet Riot Russ Kunkel (drummer Peter "James" Bond) drummer, Jackson Browne, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, etc.

My favourite track on Intravenus de Milo is Nice 'n' Stinky. What a song title:D

Thanks for all of the extra trivia, Bill! Howard Hessman, that's right. I remember watching Head of the Class.

Bill W

Right, he was on for I think 2 seasons. He left the show and was replaced by Scottish comedian Billy Connolly for the final season.

Byrd N. Hand

I believe like half the cast was also replaced with him...

Bill W

I just took a peek at Wiki- ..It ran for 5 seasons. Three actors left after season 3, and they added 5 more for seasons 4-5, including Ke Huy Quan (aka Short Round) who won an Oscar in 2022.

Byrd N. Hand

Yes, I guess Connolly only did the final season. I admittedly had a crush on the actress who played Maria (Leslie Bega), who was one of the 3 who left after S3, so that's probably why my memory is a little hazy on the latter part of the series' run, i.e. because I watched in large part for her. 🤷‍♂️

Bill W

I was hazy too, thinking they only did 3 seasons. Yes, Maria was a beauty. Even though Robin Givens emerged as the 'star', I had a crush on Simone (Krystyne Haje).
