This is a pleasant surprise (or I missed the email). Are you planning to do all 5 series as a follow up to the reactr thing? Also 250USD for a 'private' reaction is steep, and the 2h30 limit harsh IMO!

Joe J

I disagree, they're time and effort for a private reaction is worth $250. Nice perk while it lasts.

Mark M

I'm glad you enjoyed watching this show. The 'In The Air Tonight' car ride was definitely a highlight but I also loved the overall Miami aesthetic. Jan Hammer's theme song still brings a smile to my face. Mykelti Williamson who played Leon went on to play Bubba in 'Forest Gump'. Bill Smitrovich who played Scottie went on to play the dad on the tv show 'Life Goes On'. Some of the bigger name celebrities to apprear on Miami Vice are; Bruce Willis, Julia Roberts, Liam Neeson, Chris Rock, Benicio Del Toro, Ed O'Neill, Phil Collins among countless others. Thanks for the reaction. I hope you decide to watch a few more.

Totally Whatever

We haven't decided what TV show we will react to next, but Miami Vice is on the list. We totally understand that our reactr fee might not be for everyone, but it reflects the time, editing, and creative energy that go into making each video. If we weren’t able to cover those costs, we would simply wouldn’t be able to offer them at all.

Totally Whatever

We would love to watch a few more, especially the episodes with the celebrities you mentioned. Bruce Willis?!

Mark M

@totallywhatever that's fair. Most reactr requests are niche suggestions that wouldn't normally be reacted to otherwise so I'm glad the option exists👌

AdrianF

The time limit is the most egregious to me. Sure, stop me from buying The Stand (definitely not giving you 1000usd for it) but personally the 250 price should be 'anything' within reason, regardless of length.

AdrianF

I didn't understand the link requirement, Kickboxer requested

Totally Whatever

We are pretty flexible and can work with everyone individually on their request. If someone wants a 3hr reaction we can do that too. And not for $1k 😘

Totally Whatever

The link is for the trailer or directly to the movie if it happens to be on YT.

AdrianF

Well I picked Kickboxer (The Stand is 6 hours and the best case is two goes I expect for that); with Kickboxer I don't know if the 4K release from last year is different to the 1999 OG but that's the one I have easy access to. You should have the request on reactr.

Totally Whatever

Thanks, Adrian! A Jean-Claude Van Damme movie - we can't wait!!

AdrianF

I was going to put Bloodsport and Kickboxer as my two producer picks this month, so I guess I\ve hurried it up :D:D

AdrianF

Me either! I think I was older than you two when these came out, but I begged my dad to let me rent Bloodsport (18 rated in UK) from Blockbuster when I was definitely not 18! I think the one I've asked for is slightly better. I'll put Bloodsport and A.N.Other in the next poll.

Wade Wallenstein

I remember seeing some of this series on the USA Network in the 90s. Among some of the best TV themes of all time!

REDR58

I was 10 years old when the show came out and I never watched it during its run. This is the first time watching it for me too! That said... The song that Tubbs is lip syncing along to at the strip club is called “Somebody’s Watching Me” by Rockwell with Michael Jackson on the backing vocals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YvAYIJSSZY I can’t tell, but I hope the music you’re hearing on your copy of the show is the mostly original music like on the copy I have. If you're unaware, often when shows were rebroadcast in syndication or came out home video, the original music was often replaced with (inferior!) soundalike cover versions because the owners of the show didn’t want to pay royalties for the originals. As you might imagine, that could be very annoying. For example, in my copy the “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” is a cover version of the Cyndi Lauper original. Yuck! The wonderful TV series "Northern Exposure" which had a lot of great music during its original broadcast run had nearly all of it replaced with cover versions or substitutions when it came out on DVD in the US. Absolutely dreadful! But much of that music was restored when it came out in streaming on Amazon Prime. Here’s a link to all the music in this episode: https://www.tunefind.com/show/miami-vice/season-1/99318 Bruce Willis, mentioned below by Mark M, shows up in season 1, episode 7 "No Exit." That was Willis' TV debut and then he would go on to the 1985-1989 TV series "Moonlighting" which made him a star. Phil Collins appears on screen in season 2, episode 11 "Phil the Shill." When Crockett calls the breakdancer “Gumby” he is referring to the stop-motion animated character Gumby who is very bendy and flexible: https://youtu.be/jj1e3UhQIMA?si=MDgUE7wsdP-8oCer Don Johnson was a singer as well as an actor. His daughter Dakota Johnson is probably most famous for the Fifty Shades of Grey movies. Don Johnson is in the 2019 movie called “Knives Out” which I know you probably won’t watch here, but I highly recommend that you should check out for yourselves! It is a fantastic murder mystery along the lines of "Murder She Wrote"! Canadian actor Belinda Montgomery who plays Crocket's ex-wife Caroline, has done loads of TV (including "Murder, She Wrote" and is perhaps most famous for playing Doogie Howser's mom on the 1989 series "Doogie Howser, MD": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-Fa7xGKH8s The late Gregory Sierra, playing Detective Lieutenant Lou Rodriguez, shows up after the car explosion looking for Crockett. You might remember him as the helpful bartender in “The Towering Inferno” who gives the kids ice cream at the bar. You mentioned about how fun it would be to be on a show in Miami... apparently Gregory Sierra didn’t want to live in Miami, so he left the show after four episodes! The white Camaro that Crockett drives chasing Tubbs on the boat used to be one of my favorite kinds of cars as a kid. Trini (played by Martin Ferrero), the exaggerated Cuban accent-using guy who Crocket and Tubbs meet in the restaurant and who later has a drastic wardrobe alteration, should be familiar to people who watched Jurassic Park (1993) as the slimy lawyer. I cannot tell you how many times I heard Lionel Richie (a cover of “All Night Long” plays in the club) as a kid in the 1980s on car trips with my parents. I think the cops in the briefing room are teasing Crockett about his shirt because it’s a little tight? It’s interesting that when Crockett looks at the list of phone numbers and names in the police station, all the phone numbers are not the typical 555 numbers often seen on TV and movies. Crockett’s black 1972 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 'Daytona Spyder' seen in this episode is actually two different cars. The car seen early in the episode for a short time outside little café is a real Ferrari. Later, on, the car that Crockett and Tubbs are driving around at night with Phil Collins playing and then at the end of the episode is a replica car based on a Chevrolet Corvette chassis. Apparently, the genuine Ferrari car was being loaned by its owner to the show but was damaged during filming, so the owner took it back. Only 122 of that specific model of the car were ever made. It is very expensive, especially today. One of these types of cars sold for over $2 million within the last few years. In August 2025 one of these cars sold for over $8 million. The executive producer of the show, Michael Mann, and who directed the 2006 theatrical movie based on this series, directed a movie released in 1995 called Heat which you should absolutely watch. It is an excellent cop thriller. Here’s an article about the alligator used on set: https://people.com/don-johnson-untrained-alligator-miami-vice-8786381 So Miami Vice is all about neon lights, cigarette boats, skimpy swimwear, pastel sport jackets, shirts with no ties and lots of smoking! Lots of fun!

Well this was a treat for a child of the 80s! It's hard to describe the impact Miami Vice had in the middle years of that decade, but you definitely identified the 2 main reasons for it - the focus on style & location as well as the close integration of contemporary music into the action. I was particularly pleased that 40 years later the iconic "In the Air Tonight" sequence still stood out to you. Side note to Crockett's box of cassettes - one tape that I all but wore out was the Miami Vice soundtrack, which went to the top of the Billboard album chart when it was released in 1985. I didn't see the pilot when it first aired, it wasn't until the 4th or 5th episode that I started watching regularly; and of course in those days if you missed a broadcast you were condemned to wait for a rerun, at best months later and then not all episodes were re-aired. But luckily the pilot was released as a stand-alone VHS, so ultimately I saw it many times. My two cents on further episodes would be to definitely check out the two-part "Calderone's Return" and also "The Prodigal Son," which started the second season and like the pilot was a 2 hour TV movie. Sadly the quality of the show did decline a bit after the second season; Michael Mann ceding day-to-day control caused a lack of focus in the later episodes. Thanks again for the great reaction; finally I'll just say Nanette's "There's a lot of, like, butts in this" almost had me slide off the couch laughing! That might have possibly had something to do with why 12 year old me was so interested back then....

Totally Whatever

Thanks, we want to check out a few more episodes - we will look at "Calderone's Return" and "The Prodigal Son." Well, there were a lot of, like, butts. 🤣

Buster

Nanette/Carolyn: Perhaps you've watched it by now, but Bruce Willis is in the episode titled "No Exit" from Season 1. It is episode 6 or 7 depending on the viewing platform, as the pilot movie has been split into two episodes in some cases. It was the first speaking role for Willis, as he had only been an extra in a couple of movies and TV shows. Don Johnson recommended him for the part after seeing Willis in an off-Broadway play as well as knowing him while he was tending bar trying to get his acting career off the ground.
