Real World was the final nail in the coffin of Mtv. Their reality type programming started with Cindy Crawford House of Style in 1989.

Crystal Pepsi launched in '92 and ended in '94 due to poor sales. It was brought back in the 2010s and 2020s in limited runs in response to nostalgia campaigns, but low sales keep it from being a permanent product in the US.

Inquiring minds want to know!! Nostalgia campaign for a product no one wanted when it first came out. Sigh. People don't want the product from their youth, they just want their youth!! - to be 10-17 years old and free of worry and responsibility again. 😁

I love the podcast!!

FUN FACT: The box art of your 90's Trivia is actually reflective of the design aesthetic known as "Memphis" and is generally considered the signature design of the 80s. It lasted from 1981 to 1987 and originated in Italy. https://youtu.be/TCI8lPvr6SM?si=sCZOoCc4KtpGhcOP

One of the original MTV hosts said the increasing licensing fees for the music videos was a big factor in the move to reality programming. MTV was certainly golden in those early years...good memories.

Yeah, I didn't get to watch a lot of it- we never had cable. I would only see it at my older sibling's houses or at a friend's house. I think The Young Ones was their first non-music programming, and even that came pretty early on in the channel's existence.

Looks like a reaction to Wayne's World (1992) is in our future... 😁

I highly suggest French Kiss (1995), a delightful rom-com starring Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline! Yet another movie for your list...
