Greatest film ever. Merry Christmas everyone.

Powers209

It's not Christmas without a visit to Bedford Falls. Thanks for the wonderful gift.

Jeremy V.

It is here oh my God I am watching this tonight! Most likely five more times before Christmas! Bravo girls can’t wait to see it right after work.

Jeremy V.

Now that you have seen it. Who is more affected by it? And with a couple days behind you, how are you feeling about the film now? I only ask because I’m such a massive fan of this movie.

JoeyVettes

I think you'll enjoy this clip.

Phil Stubblefield

Yes, this was what I've been waiting this week! Nothing like a good happy sob to get the emotions going! 🥲 😭 🥹 And, do my eyes deceive me, or is Nanette getting emotional in that thumbnail? Say it isn't so, my emotional twin! 😊

Kevin Rubio

This became a Christmas Classic because Republic Pictures forgot to renew the rights. This allowed television stations to broadcast it for free for many many years becoming a perennial favorite. NOT SO FUN FACT: I was one of the people who colorized this classic (against my will) in the early 90s. Hey, I needed the work. I much prefer the black and white version.

Wade Wallenstein

You were with Legend Films? They've colorized so many classics that truly didn't need it.

Powers209

It's another movie that always hits me in the feels. That moment when Miss Davis asks George for 17.50. That's the meaning of Community. George and Mary... doing their best for the community they love. I heard that Capra asked Ellen Corby, who played Miss Davis for the odd amount to throw off Jimmy Stewart, who threw in a surprise of his own with that kiss, as a genuine reaction to Miss Davis taking only what she needed, as she shared the gift from George and Mary. They both breathe life into two characters pushed to their limits. Miss Davis was not willing to take more than she needed so George and Mary's gift could reach as many people as possible. These are the type of people who make America Amazing.

Wade Wallenstein

I've never seen this film until last year and it was the "Abridged Version" done by Legend Films through a site called "Rifftrax." Seeing the whole film I now understand why it's a classic! Funny you should mention Alfred Hitchcock since James Stewart starred in Vertigo from 1958. There's also a Comedy he did called Harvey.

James Hadden

There’s also Rear Window (1954)

Mary Ann Morgan

Jimmy Stewart, Alfred Hitchcock ‘s REAR WINDOW!!

Phil Stubblefield

Yup, what a great warm-up to the Christmas season! Nanette, knowing that you'd seen it before, it was such a blessing watching your anticipatory smiles! Hmm, little blonde Violet and little brunette Mary sitting at the soda fountain. Does that remind anyone of two other young ladies? 🤔 The moment Donna Reed appears on screen: Carolyn: "She is stunning!" Nanette: "Yes, she is!" Agreed! There are few women in Hollywood history who could match her! BTW, do you know who played Mr. Potter? Lionel Barrymore, the patriarch of the Barrymore acting clan, and Drew Barrymore's great-uncle! And speaking of Potter: Nanette: "He's so creepy... 'Smarmy,' Care!" That is the *perfect* word, my friend! Carolyn: "What a manipulative... beep!" Love the self-censoring! 😂 Two quotes sum up the entire film. The first appears on the wall plaque in the building and loan office when George and Harry's dad owned it: "All you can take with you is that which you've given away." The second is the classic dedication from Clarence in the copy of Tom Sawyer: "No man is a failure who has friends." That's an easy thing to forget when it feels like the world is crashing down around you, but it is *so* crucial! --- You also asked for recommendations for Jimmy Stewart films. My favorites: You Can't Take It With You (1938) - A groundbreaking rom-com; like It's a Wonderful Life, directed by Frank Capra and co-starring Lionel Barrymore The Philadelphia Story (1940) - One of *the* classic rom-coms; co-starring two of the other greats from the Golden Age of Hollywood: Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn Rear Window (1954) - One of director Alfred Hitchcock's most famous films; co-starring the *fabulous* Grace Kelly Vertigo (1958) - Another of Hitchcock's most well-known works, with perhaps a twist here and there...

Totally Whatever

I hold this one close to my heart! Carolyn is now a big fan and wants to watch it every Christmas.

Totally Whatever

Yes! Nanette gets pretty emotional every time she watches this one.

Totally Whatever

This movie gets me every time I watch it. I love that his kiss was a spontaneous reaction to her line!

Jeremy V.

I was gonna watch this later on tonight, but now that I’ve read this. I’m watching it now.

Totally Whatever

Phew, I'm glad we did a good job with this one. Thank you for the extra trivia and all of the movie suggestions. We love it when you quote us. lol

Joel P

Yes, as others have already noted, please watch Rear Window if you want another great James Stewart film. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock and also starring the lovely Grace Kelly. I also really like James Stewart in The Shop Around the Corner (1940).

Bill Elliott

Gonna save this one for Christmas Eve as I frantically wrap gifts with my wife and my mom and they show it’s A Wonderful Life on NBC, but good choice you two. Getting close to 40000 on You Tube too!

Totally Whatever

Have a wonderful Christmas, Bill! Almost at 40k - thanks for noticing.

Great reaction. I will admit, at first I was a little bummed that Nanette had already seen it, but it was a fun reaction to watch. - So romantic. This movie is ridiculously romantic. The tension during the phone scene is better than almost any love scene I have seen in a movie. - Suck it, Potter. Never a more fitting quote from Carolyn. Now that you two mention it, he might be the worst ever in a film. Zero redeeming qualities. - FDIC saved America. Before that, if you had money in the bank and a tornado blew it away, your money was gone. Crazy to think it was like that. - What's with this crow? A squirrel? Carolyn is hilarious! This was a fun Christmastime watch! Keep the movies coming!

Mike the Ginger

I remember when I was a little kid if I woke up too early and turned on Nickelodeon, they would still be showing old Nick at Nite shows like The Dick Van Dyke Show. I remember The Donna Reed Show was occasionally on. She was gorgeous.

Marshmallow Venom (실리콘 밸리)

Just finished watching, and what a nice reaction! It's always rewarding to see people come to classic movies and like them as much as I do, especially something black and white. For a truly great Donna Reed movie, try "From Here to Eternity." It also stars Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift, Deborah Kerr, Ernest Borgnine and Frank Sinatra. It won 8 Oscars including best picture, best director, best supporting actor for Sinatra and best supporting actress for Donna Reed. And it has a truly iconic scene at the beach.

Totally Whatever

Glad you liked it, Mike. Yes - Potter had zero redeeming qualities. Pure evil that guy.

Totally Whatever

Thank you! We definitely have that one at the top of our list.

Mike the Ginger

My dad always calls me a communist for stuff like this. He says I am a communist because I don't care for cheesecake. HAHA
