So much Clint. Thank you, ladies. This looks like a fun journey through some great Westerns. The Outlaw Josey Wales is one of my favorite Hero Journeys. Josey Wales is like Luke Skywalker without the laser sword and blasters, and his force powers is the sheer will to bring his family justice. No space magic needed. High Plains Drifter is another favorite. The movie is one step away from being a full blown Horror movie, but Clint keeps it all western, while I was waiting to see 3 more horsemen to show up. Clint is all the divine protection this town of sinners needs. If you met up with your all-mighty and he offered you a job as an Angel, would you take it? In the case of the Stranger, Clint brings the grace. -Of course that's just my take on a must see western.

In my opinion, Jose Wales is the best performance by Clint Eastwood in any movie he's done. And he's done some great ones. There are so many great lines in that movie. My favorite that I often tell people in real life is, "Endeavor to persevere!" which means do the best you can, because you ain't getting any help.

My top 3: The Outlaw Josey Wales High Plains Drifter Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Michael Lynch

A shame that Open Range isn’t here.

To Wa

I feel like this poll should include: High Noon (1952) The Searchers (1956) Unforgiven (1992) Pale Rider (1985)

UCOOLJULES

Two mules for sister Sarah, and True Grit also missing.

Smooticus

Wow, great choices and really hard to pick my customary 3 so i had to go with 5 on this one. Some great suggestions in the coments as well

Smooticus

Too damn many good movies for this catagory

Smooticus

The Man who Shot Liberty Valance Blackthorn (an interesting watch after Butch Saccisy and the Sundance Kid) The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (Brad Pitt is amazing) Hostiles (bleak, but possibly Christian Bale's best work) Old Henry High Noon Support your Local Sheriff (James Garner, Harry Morgan, Joan Hackett, Walter Brennan, Bruce dern, Jack Elam...What a cast!)

Joe J

Remember folks, the channel is 70s, 80s, & 90s movies.

Joe J

Sorry to see Pale Rider (1985) is missing.

Bill Elliott

Again, solid choices, no wrong way to go here, all will do well on You Tube too.

Byrd N. Hand

... with occasional jumps outside of that timeline...

Byrd N. Hand

I'm all for many of these winning... but the unsung title here for me is "McCabe and Mrs. Miller." It'll admittedly not get many views on YT, though. I'm a huge Robert Altman fan, and actually got to be an extra for 2 days (and briefly see him up close) in his last film, "A Prairie Home Companion."

Flounder

It makes me sad that The Shootist isn’t doing better. I haven’t watched a lot of John Wayne movies but The Shootist is, by far, the best one I’ve seen.

Smooticus

It was his last movie before he died of Cancer

Totally Whatever

Thanks so much for all the comments! For this round, we narrowed our focus to the 70s (plus two classics from '69). It’s clear you all have more favorites, so we’ll definitely be doing another Western poll soon! Keep those suggestions coming—we’re adding them to our list for the next one.

Your very welcome. Wishing you and your family a Very Merry Christmas. 🎄

"The Cowboys" 1972) with John Wayne is one of my favorites after "Outlaw Josey Wales"

Byrd N. Hand

"Once Upon a Time in the West" is arguably the fourth movie in Leone's series -- you've just got Charles Bronson instead of Clint Eastwood. Other Westerns worth watching: - "Ride the High Country" and "Major Dundee" (both also directed by Sam Peckinpah) - "The Professionals" - "Hombre" and "The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean" (both also starring Paul Newman) - "Little Big Man" - "A Man Called Horse" and "The Return of a Man Called Horse" - "The Hired Hand" - "Duck, You Sucker" (Sergio Leone's other Western) - "The Missouri Breaks" - "Heaven's Gate" - "Barbarosa" - "Silverado"

Paul

With the Western theme here I have to say Once Upon A Time In The West is my all-time favorite. A classic revenge tale by Sergio Leone, Henry Fonda has never appeared as evil as he was in this film.

Kevin Rubio

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is a seminal Western if not top five. The others (IMHO) being: 1. EL DORADO (1966) 2. STAGECOACH (1939) 3 UNFORGIVEN (1992) 4. (This is sort of a cheat) THE NO NAME TRILOGY No I didn't name THE SEARCHERS (1956). It's shot beautifully but I think it has pacing problems.

Joe J

It's all subjective, I personally favor "Open Range" most amongst modern westerns. And for classics, for me nothing bests "Shane" and "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance".

Joe J

Only two of these had any chance to win this poll. This ain't our first rodeo ladies...LOL.

thansen

I have grown to love westerns and one of the best surprises was watching Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. It had a little bit of everything. Some other westerns I've enjoyed so far: Stagecoach (1939) She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949) and maybe the most beautiful western They Call Me Trinity (1970) Trinity is Still My Name (1971) the two Trinity films may not be as hilarious as Blazing Saddles but still a lot of fun to watch Lonesome Dove (1989) mini-series The Searchers (1956) The Ox-Bow Incident (1943) Open Range (2003) Dollars Trilogy Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) Maverick (1994) I think maybe the first western I remember watching

Kevin Rubio

I would also site THE OXBOW INCIDENT (1943) and HELL OR HIGH WATER (2016) when it comes to one of the most modern Westerns.

Mike the Ginger

I actually thought movies could include the 40s, 50s and 60s. I thought the channel is generally any movies pre-2000.
