You're reaction to Dr. No was spot on. The Bond movies, except for the recent round with Daniel Craig, have always been a contradiction to me. They have an on the surface feature of being serious spy dramas, but deeply imbedded are some of the craziest, and goofiest details. My only cringe worthy issues with these films would be the outdated attitudes toward women, and occasionally, the typical racial faux pas' of the 60s. Otherwise I think they are very entertaining and fun to watch...not withstanding the tongue and cheekeeness. I hope you'll eventually watch every bond movie so we old guys who grew up on them can get your perspective, making them new again in a meaningful way.

Felix Leiter was played by Jack Lord who starred as Capt. Steve McGarrett in the original Hawaii Five-O tv series (1968-1980). The card game at the beginning is called baccarat. The device that looks like a pizza peel is called a pallet, and the card dealing device is called a shoe. That's everything I understand about baccarat. 😀

Yes, it's odd to me that so many (so-called) Bond fans took issue with Craig's grittier, more dour take on the character when it's arguably the closest to Ian Fleming's original vision of James Bond (outside of him being black-haired and Scottish -- for which only Sean Connery still fully meets that criteria among all the actors who have portrayed him). And at the same time so many people love Roger Moore in the role when these days I feel one could validly argue that he's only a couple of steps removed from Austin Powers. 🤷‍♂️

You are so right Byrd N. Hand. One thing I've learned from being a fan of Star Trek, is that occasionally fans, as a group, develop a kind of heard mentality that feels like they have some kind of ownership of a particular franchise - it's kind of like the tail wagging the dog, because they collectively create their version of what is good or bad and reject anything that doesn't fit the strict list of rules. I personally say, "Let the creators create and be open to what they are trying to say". And yes, I find the Roger Moore Bond files almost unwatchable for their lack of respect to the source material and attempts at crude humor.

We haven't seen Hawaii Five-0. In the new year, we are hoping to dive into some more TV Shows.

Welcome to the world of Bond you two! For the movie that Austin Powers really spoofed, watch the Connery film “You Only Live Twice” 1967, get a load of Donald Pleasance’s bad guy, Blofeld, he will look familiar.

Loved your Dr. No reaction. I was thinking that there should be a shirt that says a movie isn't complete without some glass breaking. Carolyn and Nanette could wear that when they are watching a movie that there will be glass breaking. Just a thought.
