Our Poll Partner winner, Uncle Rico, has picked a lineup of 1976 Best Picture nominees (honoring 1975 films), and now it’s time for you to make the final call. Which of these cinematic heavyweights should we dive into?

Psst—we’ve already seen Jaws, so we’re diving into fresh waters for this poll!

This poll ends 4/23 11:59 PM EST.

Bill Elliott

I love “Dog Day Afternoon”, watching Al Pacino and John Cazale, fresh off playing Michael and Freddy Corleone playing two idiots is priceless!!!!

Byrd N. Hand

This might've been the best Best Picture nominee list ever. I'm voting for them all. "Nashville" is particularly brilliant (and one of my all-time favorites) -- yet NO ONE has ever reacted to it. 😒 If it's not too late, may I suggest filling "Jaws"' void with "The Man Who Would Be King" (which would also be right up your alley)?

Crimson Ace

No wrong choices here, but I believe that both Dog Day and Cuckoo's Nest are required viewings. Acting masterclasses.

Simon King

One flew over the Cuckoo’s nest is a must watch for TW, fantastic movie.

UCOOLJULES

So glad Jack's breakout film is finally made it to a list. I know Carolyn will love this

UCOOLJULES

The Man who would be King is such a great film, and terribly underrated

Smooticus

One of my faves! It'd be a good one along side The Wind and the Lion

Smooticus

Had to put a vote in for Barry Lyndon. a bit slow, but an asolutely gorgeous movie to watch

Byrd N. Hand

It's my all-time favorite costume drama (followed by Polanski's "Tess"). The cinematography is breathtaking.

TWFanatic

Correction Ladies ... (sorry) Those movies are from 1975 ?

OrionM42

Great Idea: to add "The Man Who Would Be King" to a future poll.

Mike the Ginger

Yeah but they were nominated a year later in 1976.

It's not an argument one can win, but the next year wasn't too shabby either: Rocky, Network, All the President's Men, Taxi Driver, Bound for Glory.

Totally Whatever

We added (honoring 1975 films), so we can have both dates in there.

TWFanatic

I understand . I didn't mean to offend . The best picture of 75 was Cuckoo's Nest and the award was given in 76 . Good times 👍

Nanette & Carolyn are shimmering, glimmering, gorgeous goddesses

I'm really torn on this poll even though I came up with it(shout-out to Paul Thomas Anderson who when his picture one battle after another won best picture he explained (paraphrasing here)how this is a list of truly great pictures and yet one is just the flavor at that time which wins best picture),dog day is great , I'll have to rewatch one flew but remember it being great, Nashville looks fascinating with like 60 people with intertwined stories and lots of oh this person's in this, I think though I have to vote for Barry Lyndon, and will have to watch it too, just a Kubrick 18th century story sounds very interesting.

Byrd N. Hand

I've never been that high on "Rocky," to be honest. 🤷‍♂️ And while "Bound for Glory" rarely gets any appreciation, I don't think it's in the same league as any of this year's 5 nominees.

Byrd N. Hand

Yes, it's unfortunate, as it's a brilliant film. I'd recommend everyone here to seek it out if they haven't already seen it. I know Robert Altman's style isn't for everyone, but there's no denying he was a unique voice in cinema -- not to mention a very obvious influence on Paul Thomas Anderson (especially his early films).

Byrd N. Hand

Just 3 more John Cazale films for them to see: "Dog Day Afternoon," "The Conversation," and "The Deer Hunter" -- all nominated for Best Picture, along with the first 2 "Godfather" films.

Totally Whatever

Looks like it is a tight race between Dog Day Afternoon and One Flew

Byrd N. Hand

Since it only lost by 1 vote, "Dog Day Afternoon" will get a watch, too... right? 🤨

bahstuffandnonsense

Sorry I missed your reply at the time; the great thing about these 70s films is there really aren't any wrong answers. Like you, I love Nashville but it's undeniable that objectively it (like Altman generally) has lost much of its cultural importance since I first saw it 30+ years ago. Hopefully one day we'll get a real Altman revival. As you say, Bound for Glory is the weak link of the 10, but it is still an important film technically. Thanks for your thoughts!
