Zelda makes more sense than Rupert timeline wise, but i have an outside bet that it could be Zelda's peasant-shooting friend whose name i can't remember. Perhaps trying to get at Zelda?

Just a quick thought about Rupert... I can see a brief Anthony Head cameo as Higgins & Rebecca investigate the share purchases, but suspect it will turn out that it is Zelda who doing this, being angry about Rebecca's non-appearance at the party and other possible sleights. It is worth noting that Higgins describes the sales as being over the last few weeks, and that Zelda did not mention Richmond when toasting the team.

The face Zelda makes when Higgins says he know who is buying the shares… I suspected her after the boat episode, she was only weird but the cult party at the boat and her with a gun was like yep she is a no no.

Zelda is definitely sus and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if she's behind this silent takeover. But Akufo makes a lot of sense as well. Not only did Sam stay at Richmond and reject him. Rebecca convinced the other club owners not to join the Akufo League. At least some of them were willing to join until her speech about the game. He's definitely rich and petty enough to do it.

I'm with you... each episode just gets better than the last. I watched this with you immediately after watching the first time alone. I'm not so sure about your take on Zelda but it does make more sense in terms of a developing plot and character than falling back on Rupert as the bad guy. Thanks for getting this out so quickly. Loved watching it with you!

I didn't have the time to do an analysis watchthrough like I usually do because things are crazy right now, but here's what I have. Derek Count is at 6. M Jones on Higgin's list. It's not me. I swear. I have never owned a share in AFC Richmond, and would never sell it if I did. I agree that it is Zelda. It's not Rupert (though, he could show up. Anthony Head just died on the first of June this year. This was filmed well before he passed, and the fact that they have not yet had an in memoriam card for him on any episode yet makes me think we will be checking in with Rupe a Dupes at some point. I know Anthony was well liked by the Cast and producers, so I think that card would be on an episode that featured him. Theory time: I think Zelda is working through Hugo. He's an enormous piece of shit in his own words, and I think Zelda has him working as her henchman in this. When Hugo introduced her in episode 4, he said that she is the managing partner for "Scorpio Sports" which is a sports investment fund that invests exclusively in women's teams. After her Scorpion talk with Rebecca, going over the parable of the Scorpion and the Frog, this seems to be a little bit of her teasing the truth. When they met, she said "Never underestimate the power of Anger as Fuel." I am not sure it's really so much about getting the club, so much as it is hurting Rebecca. She always seems to be trying to get around Rebecca, or corrupt Rebecca. It was Rebecca she was upset about not showing at the New Years Eyes Wide Shut fucked up boat party. It's always about Rebecca. I think she's one of Rupert's exes. She focused in on Rebecca's divorce when they first spoke and said Rebecca's ex reminded her of hers. We know Rebecca wasn't Rebecca's first wife, because she was working in a private club when she met Rupert, who used to come in with "his then wife". Obviously that wasn't his first wife either. And how did Rupert get rich enough, from being a poor boy who had to sneak into Richmond games, to buying Richmond outright. Anthony Head was only 5 years older than Tracey Ullman, so they are in the same age range. Was Rupert's windfall patenting the Banana Clip? Does Zelda see Richmond as rightfully hers, as Rupert bought it with money he essentially stole from her? Could be? Maybe? Was Mae channeling Peggy Mitchell when she said "Get the 'ell outta my pub!"? Was the Kool-Ade Man a thing in the UK? Last thing I will do before signing off is go over the Believe sign post-its, starting on the left, and working along the bottom to the right: Fuck Bitches Get $$ And... I'm sure I didn't catch all of the All The President's Men references, but Mae in the darkness of the parking garage with the glowing cigarette saying Follow The Anger was the best.

All The President’s Men musical motif following the Higgins plot along with Mae as Deeptroat and “follow the anger” was an odd little homage but very fun. Claudie - I’m torn. I don’t trust Zelda either, but I’m starting to wonder if her character’s oddness is diegetic. It feels like Tracey Ullman made a choice to play an eccentric. I can’t imagine the other characters feeling safe with such a nut in the inner circle. My hunch is that the buy out ends up being anodyne and everyone has a good laugh. Lastly, more Gemma/Alice. Less Keely/Roy.

I rewatched All The President's Men to see how strong the parallels were :- Music. Structure of Higgins' investigation - phone, then in person, then clandestine meeting after warning suggesting surveillance. Written notes jumbled into spaces in notebooks, including underlining etc. Randall's wife echoing the librarian initially remembering Hunt accessing books on Kennedy and then denying that, and even that Hunt was ever there. The use of 'honourable' to echo 'proper' and 'honest' in the film. General theme of people being strongly discouraged from communicating or encouraged to deny events/knowledge. Setting of Mae in the cellar, the glow of the vape replacing the lighter. The informant insisting the investigator say what they know, and the nature of the latter's uncertainty as to where the facts lead Follow the anger/money. There may be more.
