Hey Post Games pals.

I have a few housekeeping things, plus a poll.

1. Subscribers update: Thank you to the many folks who participated in the free month promotion and stuck around. About 20% of people became recurring subscribers, which is incredible. I'm constantly surprised by and grateful for this community.

2. Small merch update: I have some extra embroidered hats and screen-printed t-shirts. They are... nice. Like, very very nice. Produced in an awesome print shop in Orange County. So, I'm trying to figure out the best way to sell them on the Etsy shop without setting an exorbitant price between costs and shipping. Right now, it looks like $50 for either -- with shipping baked into that flat fee. Which seems too pricey. Hoping to have an update soon as I figure out alternative shipping options!

3. Spotify synced: If you listen on Spotify, I've merged the free and Patreon feeds into one. I'll be real, the Spotify backend tools are incredible. And it provides me a ton of helpful data and analytics. While reviews on Apple Podcasts help the show, I'm planning to default to Spotify share links moving forward.

4. Free game codes poll: I'd like to give away codes for some of the games I cover on this show, but I'll only do so if you're okay with me receiving codes from game makers and passing them along.

I'm creating a poll (below) for your feedback.

Also, if you have thoughts on the best way to randomly give away codes, let me know in the comments. I have some ideas, but would love your insights, especially if you've seen another creator handle giveaways well. Since this is a question of ethical comfort, I'm only going forward with promo code giveaways if the "yays" win 2/3rds of the vote.

Excited to share this week's episode tomorrow! Mike Drucker! Tom Francis! It's a goodie.

Are you okay with me giving away developers' promo game codes to Patreon supporters?

There's a terrible joke here about ethics in gaming journalism.

Would someone mind explaining why receiving and giving away game codes might not be a good/ethical practice?

For what it's worth, I don't think $50, shipping inclusive, is completely unreasonable. Small-batch, made in the U.S., etc - higher price. I do understand the desire to make things accessible, but I'd be happy to support at that level too. (I realize I am speaking from a position of relative financial privilege!)

Free codes are fine so long as you disclose.

Giveaways should be operated by a random draw, and listeners can enter the drawing by posting 1 hand drawn picture of the how the episode or the game in question made them feel

I’m fine with you giving out codes, but remember that Patreon has rules about giveaways. Creators may offer giveaways, but creators are responsible for ensuring any giveaway is available to all fans (on and off Patreon) and complies with any and all applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Works involving speculation about sports outcomes are permitted as long as no financial reward is involved.

Because this is framed as an ethical quandary, I voted yes but largely to imagine this as a small catalyst into its most extreme endpoint. Will this lead to Chris Plante one day being apprehended by Interpol as the head of the world’s largest French New Wave Bootlegging empire? Only time will tell.

I’ll only trust you now if you give out free codes. The monkey’s paw has curled.

please consider a "you dried" towel giveaway in the future as well
