Dear diary, photographing Rocío and Layla also meant translating between Spanish and English. I’d ask for extra pay, but “hardship allowance” would be difficult to deliver with a straight face.
Rocío spoke Spanish. Layla spoke English. They didn’t share a language, so I was passing the directions between them while taking photographs on the beach.
You learn all those useful phrases in class. Asking for directions. Ordering a coffee. Explaining where you work.
Nobody prepares you for trying to describe this particular working day.
I’m still working out how to put it on LinkedIn. “Facilitated international cooperation in a challenging coastal environment” feels suitably modest.
More from the office soon,
Arnold ✌🏻
Arnold ✌🏻
