Prologue: B-roll

THIS IS A PROLOGUE because I'm terrible. The chapter was getting WAY too long and it's because of the way I decided to approach writing this. You'll see why, in this prologue. It's a reality show, but it's not just the people competing. At least with this, you'll see the MAIN main character, some other characters that are intended to be main (but hey, they could get voted out, that's the whole idea of this!) and the set up of the whole idea. No voting here, obviously! That'll be next chapter.

In case you missed what the plan is for this story, it's a reality TV competition with reader voting, so you kind of get to direct some of the story. I've wanted to do this for a while and thought NaNo would be a great time (iiiiit's not going so well! Mostly because I put out two other chapters this month and didn't think about the time involved in that). In the actual chapters with voting, there will be a poll linked at the end, exactly like the updating polls I've put up before. And it would be really awesome if people participated!

I wasn't sure about the premise, but it's really good. I like how you pay attention to all the minute details of reality tv and filming. I would find it hard to vote someone off, partly because asshole characters add drama and it might make it boring to vote them off early.

Nice! I really like the idea of reader voting, it's like one of those chose your adventure books--I loved those as a kid, getting to shape/interact with a story is always really fun! And so far I'm liking meeting these characters. It feels like there's a lot of potential for some great chemistry between them all!

I'm glad you like it so far! I wanted to play around with the idea a little because I've seen other reality show stories and it's always contestants only as main characters, and I always thought it would be way more interesting to involve the camera crews because they are ALWAYS THERE. And I fully expect the voting to be completely about who people find interesting, since it's not like you can taste or judge fictional food :D Everybody's got a story but some people's might not get told if they get voted off; it'll be interesting to see what happens!

There's a lot more characters to come (omg so many, haha) and it'll be really interesting who people like/vote off each time. The whole story/"plot" (events basically) are planned but which characters will end up doing them will be completely up to change and voting .There will also be voting on 'immunity' so that every chapter a character can't get eliminated even if they were slated to have a bad dish (but it'll be random/blind voting), so there will be some twists with that too probably. I also have no idea who will win which is kind of cool, my own story will be a surprise :D

Don't think I've ever seen this concept for a M/M novel before, but I like what I'm reading, and I can appreciate all the researching you must've done to give this an authentic feeling; not that I know what goes on with reality TV, but this certainly feels like something that can happen. :)

I've seen two, one with reader voting and one not, and they actually both fairly the same - the main pairing were both contestants, make it to the end, and then a third party wins to avoid any jealousies or conflicts in the relationship. I just really wanted to include the camera crew as a main major part, since I'm pretty familiar with camera/filming stuff in general (ex film student here) and the idea of people constantly being in your face and trying to capture everything you do in case it's interesting sounded like a better situation than just 'we're competing on a show'. Also I think the reader voting will be really really interesting :)

I'm so excited to read this! I had a real nice laugh at the start when I read the main character's name was Reuben! Very clever name in a story about food! Hopefully I don't get too hungry reading, lol!

Haha yep, it'll be brought up that his name is kind of coincidental . :D I'm glad you're excited about it! Even though I'm likely going to fail it as a NaNo story I'm still going to keep it going since I've wanted to do this concept for a while. :)

I already know I don't like arrogant conceited people, so I definitely won't be voting for a certain someone... though if we get to vote someone off the show, that may be more fun (at least in the beginning). Looking forward to reading more and voting. This sounds like it will be fun. :)

Totally not into cooking shows and stories about cooking shows. However, will give it a try and see if I warm up to it. But only because it's you writing it and you never let me down. :)

Glad you're going to give it a try! Definitely okay if it's not your thing - it's just an interesting concept I wanted to play with :) It's pretty heavily character-driven more than food driven so it might be a little more interesting in that aspect
