Hey, we're starting out this month with a PDF! Are you ready for LEGAL STUFF? Sure you are. It could have gotten a lot more legal but I withheld. I thought this would be a fitting PDF because characters keep talking about TREASON, so much TREASON, in the recent chapters and also it will be relevant for the upcoming chapter.

Also waiting on some people to fix their December pledges; please check your email maybe if you don't do it often??

Oh nice, this is awesome! It's really interesting and definitely helps with understanding some of the stuff in context from recent chapters. One thing I'm wondering about then, was it considered socially acceptable when Alan punched Eldornrhet in one of the recent chapters? You mention in here that harm done to a body is seen as disrespectful of the entities--if someone self harmed, would it be perceived as a criminal act against oneself? I was also wondering what the oenclar prison system looked liked. Is there a focus on labor to try and make them productive? Who mans/guards inmates? Just overall another awesome pdf though! I love these things :0

Alan's a bit of a tricky case, since he's really not-government but kinda sorta is just by being so attached to Keyd via a relationship, so it COULD have been very not-cool but Eldronrhet was so damn embarrassed he wasn't going to do anything about it, and also Keyd saw it as perfectly legit (of course he would) and told Alan something along the lines of it being completely acceptable for him to 'ask for respect'. Other cases where it's happened was Keyd attacking Arirsanya near the end of Chiaroscuro, since Arirsanya said some rude shit to him and Keyd came at him right in the open, so that was seen as reasonable. Near the end of Nocturne Eldronrhet attacks Keyd in a similar way /but/ Keyd's back is turned at the time which is seen as totally unsporting. Keyd actually could have done something about that but he had other things to worry about at the time. Someone hurting themselves on purpose would be /technically/ considered under a criminal act, but the person likely wouldn't be prosecuted for it through a trial or anything. They might go to jail, but it would be in the sense that they need help and the resocializing that happens there would be seen as helpful to them, not because they need to be kept away from other people but because they need some sort of attention and that's actually the best place, at the moment, that the oenclar have for that. The oenclar are kind of behind on psychology and sociology and mental health issues, because they're so used to the entities taking care of so much physical stuff for them they kind of overlooked the brain as a thing, too. Labor really only happens outside of prisons, within prisons it's a focus on the person and almost like a re-teaching them of social values and why they shouldn't have done X in the first place and why X behaviors hurt their race over all. People who've done different crimes are pretty much separated from each other, so if you killed somebody you're not going to be sitting in with a group of people being told they shouldn't fake their caste. There's probably some labor involved, but it might be pointless labor (compared to labor service which is useful) that's intended to just keep them from being completely bored. City guards are in charge of inmates, just a special branch of them—generally there's not a lot of violence supposed to be going on in prison, either between inmates or between inmates and the people guarding them. The reason going to prison is awful for most people is because it socially damages them, really hard sometimes, to a point where it can really affect their life permanently. Prison /itself/ is kind of mild.
