Hi everyone,

In this tutorial, we will paint a beautiful butterfly in watercolour. I've chosen to work on a quarter sheet of A3-sized Arches paper, but you can also use a watercolour journal for practice. My butterfly measures 14 cm (about 5.5 inches) across the wings.

We'll explore various techniques, including using masking fluid, wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, and detailing with a waterproof fine black pen. Additionally, I'll demonstrate how to use pastel to enhance the wings and graphite to draw a drop shadow underneath the butterfly, adding depth to our artwork.

I hope you enjoy painting this butterfly as much as I did!

All of the files you need to complete the painting are attached below my message here. You can download them individually or all at once by clicking on the "Download all" button.

Happy painting!

Louise

This is just beautiful - thank you so much! Can't wait to do this one - pairing it with the previous one and the one with the moth.... If only you could know what these tutorials mean to me, you would feel contented and happy - and blessed! - for the rest of your life. Thank you, dear Louise 💗💗💗

What a beautiful butterfly, Louise! 😃💕. Thank you for this tutorial. I saw your rhino on YouTube and just loved everything about it! I would be thrilled if that could become a Patreon tutorial🙏🏻🙏🏻😊. I love wildlife paintings!

I'm not sure Therese. Do you have the latest version of the app? Others have told me that they have difficulties too.

Ilse Koerts

When I open Patreon in Safari I can view in full screen Therese……..I hope you can too

Therese Terheide Stewart

Yes I do have the latest version of Patreon. I was a member last year and I never had this problem..

Louise De Masi

Hi Therese, Dom here. I think it's better that you use Safari than the iPad app, as Ilse said above. We've had a few people say that they can't go full screen in the app and I'm not sure why it does it or how I can help you with it. Maybe contact Patreon support and see if they can help?

Therese Terheide Stewart

Hi Dom I took your advice and went thru Safari and that worked for me. Thank you so much.

Kathryn

What kind of palette are you using?
