Hi everyone,

The results are in and the leopard in the tree was the clear winner with 67% of the vote! So here is Part 1 where we will paint this beautiful leopard lounging on a branch.

Part 2 is here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/leopard-tutorial-125797099

In the leopard tutorial we cover:

Wet-on-wet techniques

Letting colours blend naturally on the paper

Simplifying complex areas (like those tricky ears)

Mixing paint and adjusting consistency for effect

Lifting and layering for texture

I’ve used a limited palette of French Ultramarine, Transparent Sienna, and Transparent Ochre from my Schmincke custom set, plus a touch of Titanium White for the whiskers. Substitute paint colours for Winsor & Newton and Daniel Smith paints are on the Supplies List.

All of the files you need to complete the painting are attached below my message here. There are 14 progress photos of my painting that will help you.

You can download them individually or all at once by clicking on the "Download all" button.

Hope you enjoy it - and as always, I’d love to see your version if you paint along!

Wow! That is a gorgeous painting. I'm a beginner painter as far as only a few paintings completed but I'm excited to give it a try. That is 💯 because you are a gifted artist and a wonderful teacher. So thank you, I appreciate you and your talents❣️

Cindy Behr

It'll be so fun to try this Louise! Thank you! Is it still possible to get the line drawing of the Leopard portrait? Maybe as a monthly challenge?

Louise De Masi

Hi Cindy- thank you. That's a good idea! I'll sort out the line drawing and make it a monthly challenge.

Elly T

Hi Louise, I can’t wait to try this. Thank you for another wonderful tutorial. I don’t see the zip file, am I just missing it?

Louise De Masi

Hi Elly- Sorry I forgot to upload it. It's there now. Thanks for letting me know.

Elly T

Thank you! The zip files make it so much easier to download and have everything in one place.

Kelly Holliday

Hey Louise--I think you might have the color substitutions for the transparent ochre and transparent sienna mixed up on the supplies list--pretty obvious, but thought I'd let you know.

Louise De Masi

Yes I have- silly me. Thank you Kelly. I'll fix it. Sorry about the confusion.

I just sold my first watercolor today!! I’ve got two more commissions to go. Thank you Louise. You truly are the very best!!! ❤️. Can’t wait to do this one.

Louise De Masi

Congratulations Shelly! That's such a good feeling. Well done and thank you! ❤️

I deleted my X account (man that hurt because I have 7000 of the top followers) so this is the only place I can contact you. The dog turned out gorgeous. So much better than when you saw it last. Thanks again for everything.

Shellee Hoyt

Thank you Louise for always providing a zip file so we can download everything so easily. Going to love painting this leopard!

Hi Louise, I’m curious do you transfer the line drawing onto the paper before or after stretching it and I just want to confirm that you still stretch when using 300 pound

Louise De Masi

Hi Jennifer, I transfer it on after I have stretched the paper. I have done it before - in the past. I've used a light box to draw the drawing on with a graphite pencil but I found the water tends to set the graphite making it more difficult to lighten with an eraser. I stretch the heavy weight paper as well because it gets a bow in it if I don't.
