Hi everyone,

If you're new to watercolour and you need a few extra tips, this technique video that I've put on YouTube might help you. In this video I break down three techniques that I use in all of my paintings.

1. How I mix my colours on the paper rather than on the palette.

2. How I soften edges.

3. Glazing

I use these techniques when I paint the Hydrangea painting (and just about every other painting too) so if you are not sure how to use these techniques properly then this video should help explain it better.

Aloha, This is what I was asking for 5-10 minute mini technique practice on smaller parts of your larger finished paintings. I hope you can understood:) This way, I feel motivated to practice in smaller time frames, so when I am able to do bigger pieces, I will have the skills to manage the larger pieces. I teach, and so I am always having my students practice daily, but I give them the lessons I want them to practice. They practice in a journal per the subject:)

Maggie

Similar to your hydrangea sketch.

Maggie

You could have a small printout per class, and then do what you just did in the practice session:) We can purchase your journals that you purchase:)

Susan Kalzer

this is the most useful class I have ever taken in watercolour. I wish I had known these techniques back when I was learning on my own from books.

Louise De Masi

Thank you very much Susan. I'm glad it was helpful. 💜

So, I have just finished to watch all the 3 Hydrangea videos and have my own hydrangea sketch done. So many valuable lessons, I am sure I will have to come back to doible check before completing my painting. Fingers crossed 🤞, and let the weekend fun start!!! I don't have the Winsor Blue so, going with phtalo blue.

Louise De Masi

Good luck with it Noemi! Have fun and have a fabulous weekend 🧡.

Where is the hydrangea sketch and supplies list for this video?

Donna Londot

So I am new at this Patreon and I need to subscribe to you to get the access to the sketch and supplies? Is that what I am seeing?

Louise De Masi

Hi Donna, I'm sorry I didn't realise you weren't a patron. Yes that's correct. You need to join on the $6 a month tier to have access to all of the tutorials.

When paint is dry I have a white grain, what am i doing wrong? i work on cold pressed arches paper.

Louise De Masi

Hi Fabien, I'm not sure what you mean by a white grain.

Fabien Schurrle

Hi Louise, i found it. My light was too bright. With normal daylight is OK.

Louise, it was so helpful to see you rinse the brush and dab on the towel. Gives me an idea of where to start to ensure my brush is just damp. I'm curious about roughly how long you waited for the paper to dry between glazes on the lovely hydrangea.

Louise De Masi

Hi Camilla, I nearly always dry my work with a hair dryer between layers. Each layer has to be completely dry before you put another layer on top or you risk disturbing the previous layer.
