Hi everyone,

I hope you had a great weekend.

It's Monday morning here in Australia and I've spent my morning answering questions and thanking people for their responses and comments. I get up around 6.30am every morning and head straight to my computer. I check my emails first and it takes me until about 8.00am until I'm finished answering everyone. Then I have my breakfast and get on with my work for the day.  It's taking longer lately because of our non-existent internet. It's been terrible where we are. The internet keeps dropping out for hours at a time and then when we do have it, it's so slow it's worse than the old 'dial up' that we used to have in the early days of the internet. It dropped out Saturday lunch time and it's only just come back on now. It's so slow though that I had to connect my computer to my iphone and use the data from my phone in order to upload the photos here.

I started a Gardenia painting on the weekend. I've posted a photo of it here. I have also been in touch with Robert from Robax Engineering in the US who makes watercolour palettes. I told him what my ideal palette would be and he very generously made a prototype for me and sent it to me to test out. How good is that? I was thrilled to receive it. You can see it on my desk here. I'm going to put all my most used colours in it and give it a test run this week. I'll let you know how it goes.

I've included a photo of the back of the house. I told you Dom and I were painting the outside every weekend, well that's Dom up on the verandah roof. We have painted the top level all the way around and now we have to continue painting the ground level under the verandah so that should be a bit easier. Then we have to get back up on the roof and paint all the cladding, the window frames and the eaves. So much still to do, but like Dom always says when I'm feeling overwhelmed, 'How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.'

Have a fabulous week. I'll have a new tutorial for you as soon as I can.

Can’t wait to see the new palette! You have a fabulous week as well!

Anticipating the new project! I'm a professional artist, but been away from wc for too long...I'm really enjoying these classes!

Lydia Shemain

Looking forward to the Gardenia tutorial — looks lovely so far. How about a Petunia sometime along the way. Would love that Louise, only when time permits.

Kris Briedé

Also looking forward to the Gardenia tutorial. Your home is lovely Louise and I am impressed that you and Dom have taken on the massive job of house painting! I feel your pain! I’m just down the road from you in Port and hoping the bush fires are not a threat to your property. Have a great week.

Suzanne canner

Have 2 of Roberts large palettes w the lazy Susan. They are spectacular! Enjoy enjoy.

Charlie

That flower is absolutely beautiful ... a future tutorial??? hope hope hope!!! by the way ... here in the U.S. .... my connection speed is 1.3 !!!! upload speed? .45 can you believe that??? Each time I watch your lessons, the spinning wheel of death just spins away!!! Perhaps some day, we'll all have a decent connection!

Hotflash Vickie

Oh, you poor Australian Girl with Slow Internet!! I suppose I should give thanks for at least one thing in America, then.... but then I have to say we do not have access to Rober's Magical Lazy Susan Palette, so that's the downside, I suppose. Hopefully we shall have your glorious Gardenia tutorial if your internet can sputter through for us.... I'm rooting for it... and I'm also rooting for you to get a Lowe's or Home Depot or some home improvement store near you in Australia that sells home paint sprayers :) they sure do speed up the painting process without having to sacrifice any elephant bits whatsoever!!

Yolonde

Big job painting the house ... it is looking great though, well done :-)

Eve Eichner

Your painting is having a great start!👌 Love how your house is coming along.......can't wait to see it finished! 🌹

Laura Etchemaite-Walborn

The gardenia looks amazing! It has the smell of my home, we used to have more than 12 plants.

Louise De Masi

Thank you Kris. You're practically a neighbour. The smoke has been bad up here. I feel for the people close to the fires and I think all the time about the animals and the little baby birds up in the trees. It's tragic. I hope you're ok where you are. 💕

Louise De Masi

Thank you Charlie. You know what it's like then. It's so frustrating! I feel your pain. Yes I'm making it a tutorial...as long as it turns out ok.

Louise De Masi

My younger son is in Canada at the moment. He's 23 and we asked him what it was like. The first thing he said was. 'They have free wifi in taxis, the hotels, cafes....it's everywhere.' He was so impressed lol. We are slowly working our way through the painting. We move a lot slower than we used to when we were younger but we'll get there. Hopefully the internet speed will improve before I have to upload the tutorial. 🤞🏻 Robax Engineering, who made the palette, is in the US so he's right there if you need him! 😝 It was so nice of him to send me this one. I'm very grateful and impressed.

Louise De Masi

Thanks Laura. Luck you. They are beautiful! I love bringing them inside to smell their beautiful perfume. They don't last long once they're cut though.

Kathy Wilden

Your new palette looks great. Hope it does what you need. I am going to do a painting of a Himalayan poppy using what I’ve learnt from your tutorials.

Becky

Oh my goodness. I just left you a message regarding the Robax watercolor palatte on your youtube channel, signed up to be a Patreon, and then discover you already have it! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do! BTW, if you don't already know this, an 8" white porcelain salad plate fits perfectly in the center to give you a sweet mixing surface. Robert also sells the 3 section divided Corelle plates on his site but they are available for less on Amazon. I'm certain I'll soon discover you know this as well. Looking forward to learning from you!

zulema cardeso

Dear Louise, can you read French or Spanish ? My English is HORRIBLE (I can read it, but....)

Louise De Masi

Hi Zulema, no I'm sorry I don't. I wish I was clever enough to. I use Google translate. Maybe if you have a question, as long as it's not too long, we could use that to help us communicate.

Louise De Masi

Hi Becky. Welcome! Lol.....I've just been reading your messages. Thank you for letting me know about the salad plate in the centre, that's smart thinking! 💕

Becky

You may not speak French or Spanish, but you speak "watercolor" FLUENTLY! ;-)

Bronwyn bossley

look at satellite for computer may help cheers

Mel

Its like when i get overwhelmed with all the gardening, my hubby Paul ses to me, 'all you can do is 'poke the beast'' ! That helps me keep it in perspective. x

Jacinthe Boudreau

I am looking forward for the gardenia tutorial🌸. I understand your frustration for the internet problèmes.

Nickie

I can’t wait for the gardenia! And thank you for all your inspiration. Also, you may have mentioned it, but what watercolor board do you use that works well with watercolor? Thanks!

Louise De Masi

Thank you! I use Arches watercolour board Nickie but it's really hard to get hold of and I have a sneaking suspicion that Arches aren't making it anymore. Nobody seems to be able to find it. I have a few sheets at home that I'm working my way through. I've contacted Arches twice now to ask them if they are still manufacturing it but I've had no answer. Daler Rowney make a watercolour board and also someone else mentioned Crescent board. I'm not sure what they are like because I haven't tried them but they might be worth looking up. The beauty of the watercolour board is that you don't have to stretch the paper before you use it. It's ready to paint on when you are.

Rita Navroth

I have ordered Ampersand Aquabord [actually a clay board that works with watercolor] 6 in. x 6 in. pack of 4 from Amazon US, here is the US link. I know that Amazon does have an international site as well. I have not used these yet but there a YouTube videos on them and they appear to work well. I have never used a wc board so don't know. Also there are other sizes at a higher price of course but I thought these smaller one would be good to see how they worked. Thought I would share my find and also see if anyone has tried them. :-) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0027A78GK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Your home painting is coming alone beautifully. I just had my house painted, we hired someone to do it and it's still alot of work. I admire you and hubby for doing the painting. I am looking forward to the Gardenia looks lovely. I am also interested in how you like your new pallet, it looks like it's on a turntable to quickly access the colors, however the slots are bigger so it will be interesting to know how well it works. Looking forward to finally begin painting again, last 2 months other home and family responsibilities have had to take priority and I have really missed painting. Today will start the sea turtle. :-)

Louise De Masi

Hi Rita, thank you! We'll still be at it next year I'm sure but we'll get there. I'll do a video about the palette so you can see it in use. Have fun with the sea turtle. 💕

Louise De Masi

Thanks Kathy. That sounds very exotic. I'll have to look that flower up. I'm not sure I've seen a Himalayan Poppy. Have fun with it.

Kelle Luoma

They are such a pretty blue! I’ve saved several photos from Pixabay and a Himalayan blue poppy was one of them.

Louise De Masi

I just googled them..... I want to paint one now. They are beautiful.

Karen Read

I used to say growing old isn’t for sissies...amending it to also say home ownership! My husband was in the US Air Force for thirty years and we moved every few years. Now that we are retired and living in the same house for the past 11 years, we are finding home ownership, or should I say home upkeep, exhausting! There’s always another room to redo, another wall to paint, etc.! Your home is lovely, inside and out!

Cassandra Kinlyside

One thing can I ask the lamp on your desk that is square-shaped can you advise me where to find one. I have been looking and looking. At the moment I have a standard decorative lamp :( so looking at getting something more professional. In the past I only used acrylic so did not really need to see the light reflection as well painting at night.

Louise De Masi

Thank you Karen. You would have seen a lot of the world.

Louise De Masi

That's beautiful Kathy. I'll have to ask permission from him to use his photo as a tutorial reference. I'll have a look for some more photos of them on Pixabay too.

Tricia Commons

You are such a busy gal!!! Thanks for palette info and hope house painting gets done soon. I am behind on everything and this weekend got the flu. Boo hoo!

Annika

Hi Louise!! Is is correct that the palette is Madde from plastic?? I was not quite sure! Thanks for advice!! All the best, Annika M❣️🤗

Louise De Masi

I'm sorry I missed this message Tricia and I'm sorry you were sick. I hope you're feeling better now! 😘

Little Glass Den

Hi just to let you know that I have created my own portable and mini version. All I did was get a block of wood and a wingnut with washer was put through the centre of a circular round pallets, Which of course, had a drillhole through the centre. It works amazingly well and costing total about £3
