Loved how this one turned out! Thank you so much Louise!

I enjoyed this tutorial. As a beginner, I also enjoyed learning a new technique using the clear plastic wrap. The salt method that others used is a good alternative. Thanks Louise!!

I think this may be my favourite tutorial yet. It satisfied both my inbuilt need for precision with the pen and my yearning for a looser style with the paint. I might try this approach with other subjects. Thanks so much Louise.

Thank you thank you thank you

Kelle Luoma

This looks beautiful and fun to do. Will attempt after my next bird is complete :)

I've been doing lots of very detailed tutorials so this was a fun one to start with! I love your style and look forward to trying all of your tutorials.

Hi Louise, loved doing this. How do I or can I show you my painting? I try to do as many of your tutorials as I can, I just lose myself in my art, thank you so much x

Louise De Masi

Hi Gina, My pleasure. You can share it in the private Facebook group facebook.com/groups/118323255562001 if you're a member. There's no place to do it here on Patreon.

I decided to try this one and while I’m pleased with it, I’m fairly certain that when I do this one again, I’m really going to be happy with it. This was fun. Thank you Louise.

I did the dragonflies and the background at the end. I am finding that adding background after doing the main painting, my paint looks splotchy. I tried one by doing a wash first, letting it dry, then painting a dragonfly. I find it is easier to do a background wash all over first because I can work more quickly and avoid water spots, lines and uneven coverage. Any suggestions?

Louise De Masi

Painting backgrounds first or last is usually a personal choice. I do both. Some artists do it during the painting. Sometimes I don't intend to paint a background and then when I've finished my painting I look at it and I think that it might need a background. Other times I might not intend to paint a background and I'll drop my paint brush or I'll drip some paint on it and I can't get it off- so on goes a background. If my painting is finished and I want to paint a background I find it easier to wet the background with water before applying the paint. You'll work out a way that suits you best. If you like to paint them first you may have to mask off edges and areas of your subject so you don't get paint on the white paper.

This was one of the first tutorials I tried ad it worked out so well it kept me going throughout all my subsequent failures LOL

Debbie Maddock

My first tutorial and found it very easy, relaxing and fun Louise, thank you. I am currently waiting for my background to dry, I added some salt for some additional texture as well as the clingfilm.

Patti Guth

This was my first tutorial with Louise as well. It was so much fun! I used salt in the background instead of the plastic wrap ... the salt was on my art desk and I didn't feel like getting up to get the plastic wrap. I painted my dragonflies on a greeting card and it is now in the mail going to my mother-in-law. Thank you, Louise!

Louise De Masi

Wonderful Patti! I hope your mother in law loves it. 💚

Linda J Greiner

Great tutorial ! What a fun painting - loved the interplay of colors :)
