Hi everyone,

Here's a quick video of me opening the art supplies I've bought over the past 6 weeks or so. I recorded myself opening each package. I thought you might be interested to see what I've been buying.

I bought some Golden Absorbent Ground thinking I'd make my own boards (like Aquabord) but after painting the Lilies on Aquabord the other day I'm not as keen as I was. I will try it though because I'm determined to learn how to paint on it better. I think I may need to thicken my paint a little. I'll keep experimenting and sharing with you what I'm learning. I will also paint the Lilies on paper because a few of you have mentioned that you'd like to paint them.

I've been trying to paint watercolour trees for the first time so I have made a video about my learning process so far. I'm a complete beginner as far as landscapes go so we can learn together. You'll be able to paint some trees with me....yay! If you have any tips.....I'm all ears! I'll upload that before the end of the week. I will upload.....as long as my internet stays on. I have had no internet for three days and I have been really frustrated not being able to get on here.

I'm working on the variegated wash Wren painting tutorial. I'm doing the voiceover for that and my son in Sydney is cutting the video for the Yellow Robin below. So I'll have that for you soon too.

Happy Painting!

Louise

Unpacking art supplies

I was amused when you stated you could not remember what was in one of your packages. In the United States, I order art supplies from Amazon a lot and sometimes I suffer from what is called Amazonesia. 😊

Acchhh! A bird!!! Louise, I will pay you all the money I have right now (close to $28) to do a tutorial with NO FEATHERS!! LOL -- In fact, a landscape, in spite of the possibility of lots of tree limbs, sounds absolutely delightful! I don't know what it is about feathers, but both of the birds I've done from your tutorials -- beautiful birds, I might add, that were going just wonderfully on account of the narrowly spaced feathers and my inability to count -- ended up just dreadfully on account of my inability to deal with MATH and WATERCOLOR combined! Well, mainly that Darned MATH!!!! I was always terrible at it, and when it comes to painting, I keep getting dizzy and disoriented ("Wait, did she say the third or the fourth? One, two, three, four -- wait, one, two, three, five! No, no, one, two -- oh, crap.... that's the foot... one, two....) It's such a distinguished looking wren, don't misunderstand me, but I cannot express the relief I feel at your news about the landscape! I am about to cry with joy at the thought. I still love birds, but I have nightmares now, Louise! Feather nightmares!! *sigh*

The Daniel Smith Ground is my favorite thing in the whole world. Mistakes be gone!

Sounds lovely Louise 💕

I just watched a YouTube video this afternoon by Art on the Brain. She used Daniel Smith gold ground on the top of a wooden box ...two coats over 72 hours...and then painted watercolor tulips on the top. She said she was very happy with the way the paint went over the gold ground. It was a very pretty when complete.

Hi Louise, funny that you no longer knew what was in one of the packages so you could surprise yourself 😆 I love this kind of videos too. Hopefully you still buy a lot 😜🌸💖

I buy so many art supplies from Amazon, I too have Amazonesia. It is like Christmas when I open packages up and wonder what wonderful art supply I have purchased. I think I enjoy opening up the surprise packages as much as I enjoy actually painting.

Yeah a bird! My favourite! It was fun watching you open the art supplies too, although now I want to go buy some brushes. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the Winsor Newton brush. I've been drooling over them but not sure if they're worth the investment.

I am a Jackson's addict and when they had their paper sale I thought I was in heaven but now I am like to buy more Arches paper. Found a store in Australia which will deliver single pieces of cold-pressed so I am happy to do that and cut my paper to size.

Buff titanium can be used to make some lovely, fairly opaque pastel mixes. I can't wait to see how you use the dagger. I have one but don't reach for it very often. I'd like to change that.

I was exploring Hahndorf today with my parents and came across an art shop. I finally bought Windsor violet watercolour tube. Can’t wait to try it. Can you do a short tutorial on the wonders of Windsor violet as I have seen you use this colour for every painting. Did not realise how versatile this colour was as I tend to use ultramarine for shadows. The shop owner told me mix Windsor violet with orange to get a lovely black. Have you tried this before?

Christine Srikala

I use Saunders and love it. It’s a great alternative to arches. Looking forward to watch your review on Saunders soon. I’m sure you will like it.

Glad to know I’m not the only one who gets feathers nightmares...i love painting birds...I gave up on that black crow tutorial because of those feathers....I might try a different technique perhaps.

Susan Turney

I love “haul” videos! I, too, am looking forward to hearing how you like some of these purchases!

Teresa Arsenault

I can tell you get especially excited to open your new brushes. It's like meeting new friends, isn't it?

Kathy Wilden

It’s so much fun to open a new parcel. I’m looking forward to the coming tutorials. Thank you Louise for all your hard work. I am very interested in painting gum trees. Hope you include those in your tutorials.

This is fantastic, I would love to learn landscape watercolor paintings from the great master Louise Demasi. Keep it up and Thank you 🙏🏼 for your videos Ms Dimasi

I'm very happy to learn how to paint trees with you. And I'm also excited to see the inks. I've been playing with them in my watercolors for a couple of months, even though I don't know what on earth I'm doing. I'm having a very good time though, I do know that! There's not a flat surface in my house free of paper drying, paints, spices, utensils, etc. I'm kind of sorry winter's soon ending (Canada) and I won't be able to blame the weather for having to be reclusive/hibernate, lol!

Hello Louise. I have seen that you have purchased Saunders Waterford HP. To practice and to save the expensive Arches paper. Here in Belgium these brands are equally expensive. I think you will be very satisfied with your purchase. In my opinion, Saunder is even better than Arches. It is stronger. I look forward to seeing the results of your purchases. Looks very exciting.Kind regards . BTW, I love the tulip you showed us on Instagram.

Louise De Masi

Hi Candice, I used it once and didn't think it was much different to any other liner brush I'd been using so I thought I'd need to order some larger Series 7 brushes before I do a comparison.

I found the PERFECT PALLETT CLEANER! Mr. Clean Magic Erasers has a new product which is a version of the erasers in sheet form. They clean my pallets beautifully and can be rinsed out and used again and again I hope you can get them in Australia. I am in the USA.
