Hi everyone,

Here’s a quick video showing you how I store my finished paintings.

I’ve been asked about this many times so I thought it was time to show you.

Some people have asked me if I coat my finished paintings with anything to protect them.

No I don’t. I varnish the paintings that I mount on wooden boards - that’s all. I use Krylon spray varnish to protect them because they won’t be going behind glass. All of my other paintings on paper will eventually go behind glass so they are left as they are when I finish painting them.

Many of you have seen the paper cabinet you see here in the video. For those who haven’t - it was an old architect’s plan cabinet that we bought at an auction years ago for about $15. It was old and rusty and ready for the rubbish pile. We kept it in the garage for years and years and stored stuff on top of it.  Last year Dom spent 6 weekends doing it up for me. He has a video of how he did it on his YouTube channel if you’re interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIjlDQdKx1k&t=267s

I hope this little video is helpful.

How I store my Finished Paintings

Thanks Louise, i have been looking for one of these draw sets for months and the prices are ridiculous . I'll have to keep my eyes open for some office auctions. Cheers Robyn

Leone Middleton

This is the link I got to reset my password???

Pam Causey

I have a table too something like that but it's sure not full of such beautiful art work like yours!

Leone Middleton

This doesn't n make sense. I'm suppose to reset my password???

Louise De Masi

I don't think you need to Leone because you're commenting here on the video so you're logged in. Must be a glitch.

Donna Robillard

This isn't about storing your paintings, but how do you paint a larger painting? I tape it to my board, but then can not reach across to the top of the paper. Should I use an easel with a vertical tilt to reach the top of a larger painting and keep it flat for the part I can reach? Will a gator board fit on an easel like a canvas would? I am looking at studio easel from Dick Blicks art supplies to purchase.

Christine Srikala

I paint A4 size so keep them in sheet protectors and then file them. It's portable and travel friendly.

Christine Srikala

Hi Louise, I noticed beautiful paintings in this video as you were placing them in the plastic box. There was a flamingo & rooster. Are they in skillshare or will you revisit them?

Louise De Masi

If I can't reach I'll turn the painting upside down or I'll stand up to paint. If I turn the painting upside down I turn my reference photo upside down too. An easle with a vertical tilt might be helpful to you. I have a little desk top easel and my gator board sits on that ok.

Louise De Masi

Hi Christine, No they aren't on Skillshare. I may paint some new ones down the track...yes!😀

Elisa

Thank you Louise! After you told me about the boxes I got one and now all my paintings are stored in there and I don't have to keep moving them when my husband claims his side of the desk 😅😅

Cassandra Kinlyside

I have only stored them in an A3 plastic folio so far. But that being said I do have a large plastic container they should fit in that I have what they call Diamond Paintings I completed stored in. But may just pull them out and replace them with my watercolor. This way they will all be safe

Thank you for sharing. Someday, if I live long enough, maybe I will have drawings to store. When I say live long enough, I can add that I am 70 years old and healthy. I like your system. It looks so clean and neat how you have it organized. I am loving all your videos and having fun with trying to turn out something. My friends at the gallery ask what kind of art I do. I tell them I dabble, therefore; I have nothing displayed. Thanks again.

Marijke de Boer

I use glassine sheets - I have large sizes but you can also buy it in a role. I fold them in half so it makes an envelope where I can place the painting into (I also do graphite, colour pencils and pastels). I then store it in a carbord box with a lid. But I realize it is not air tight and probably not acid free so thank you for the video. In the longer term I will need to think about plastic boxes too.

Rachel Ottley

So wonderful to catch glimpses of your other work as you packed it away 😊 My art is everywhere. Clearly I need a big box! Thanks for sharing.

Cecilia Nuyianes

Thank you very helpful video. I see I am taking better care of my Christmas decorations than my finished paintings. I am going to make some changes. Thank you!! 🤩

good idea of storage...i try to find cabinet similar to yours but in my region they are very expensive.....almost 300$ for one to put on garbage.....and more....One day i will find one :-)

Amy Kenyon

This inspires me to be more organized Louise💛 I keep all my paintings in a drawer in a wooden dresser. I would love to get some containers like yours to store them in for inside the drawer.

Christine Srikala

Hi Louise, was watching gardening Australia show. It was on Australian bush plants/ flowers. I am wondering if you could paint one/two in your long list. HAPPY mothers day everyone.

Louise De Masi

Hi Christine. Yes for sure. I currently have some gum blossoms on my list.

Marleen Jamers

Thanks Louise! I store mine in a big plastic portfolio map. I would also prefer to keep them in a box, but that takes up more space 😁

Ann Rappaport

Hi Louise, your orderly and sparse work area and home is either inspiring or depressing depending on my mood and the state of my home. Oh well, other than getting busy trying to overcome my chaotic nature I’m doomed. My painting are almost all in frames, then into a box stored. I try to rotate them so that I can enjoy them more. There is a limit to how many can go on a wall so in my work room they’re everywhere but not in the rest of the house. My husband is a one picture on a wall kind of guy,

Norma Macias

Hi Louise, I do not have many paintings to storage, but I enjoyed a lot looking at all your lovely paints, you have done a lot of work! I loved the duck you have in the larger box, time 01:55 Could you consider to make a tutorial of a duck like that or similar? That combination of colors is really beautiful! I love all your tutorials, I am learning a lot, and I am happy because with the results I get following your clear instructions. Thanks!

Louise De Masi

Hi Norma, Thank you! I can add a duck to my list of subjects. I'm glad you are enjoying painting with the tutorials. 💕

Patricia Douglas

Hi Louise! Thank you for sharing your organization. I do acrylic painting also. So those paintings go on my wall at home and rotate them, otherwise I have a plastic container for canvas boards and paper art work. Then the rest that cannot fit go in a two shelf bookcase/storage unit. Some of my paints(watercolors) are in a plastic crate container and brushes for both mediums are separated and placed in jars and containers. they are on a moving cart along with my mediums, paper towels, hairdryer, etc. My acrylic paints are stored by color in a 6 drawer plastic office supply storage thingy. Paper is also stored on the shelf unit and canvases are on another cart. Big canvas are stored in my office closet! AN extra bedroom has been my office (I am a retired school teacher), sewing room and now also my art room. I love it! Sometimes I roll the cart into the living room for more light and make room for painting there. But mostly in my office/art/sewing room! Thanks for showing interest in us!

Patricia Douglas

I love your cabinet for all your paintings and paper, etc!

Patricia Douglas

Sometimes I am so organized I forget where I put items! LOL

Jessie Doherty

Love each and every one of them! So excited to learn from you Louise!

Ann Rappaport

I found one of these in very good condition, priced at a bargain. After interacting with the seller she came down to $50! Mind you I wasn’t asking about the price. I researched them and found they are the weight of a VW Bug! I didn’t buy it, I can’t own it if I can’t move it around myself.

Deb Dickerson

Hello .... While i was watching this video... I saw a painting of a flamingo. I would like to request u put a flamngo on ur tutorial list.

Louise De Masi

Thanks Deb. Noted! I've got a flamingo on my list. 🧡

Deb Dickerson

What time is it there? I am in America and it is about 10:30. I am glad it was on ur list. I want to know ... if u don’t like to use the Windsor colors... because they stain... what colors would u use for blue, green, red , violet, yellow and red?

Louise De Masi

It's 12.30 (lunch time Monday). I use Winsor colours. I have winsor blue, winsor violet and winsor lemon and I've just ordered winsor red. I think I even have winsor green in my kit. I use all of them except maybe the winsor green (not so much). I'm starting to mix greens more now.

Marcela Fernandez del Rio

Thank you for the idea!!! Been keeping my paintings in carboard envelope, but this is so much better.

Louise De Masi

Hi Diana, I buy mine online from Image Science in Melbourne. I also use them to ship paintings and prints.

Linda

I watched Don’s video on the cabinet. A lot of work but well worth it.👏

Louise De Masi

Thanks Linda. Yes he worked hard on it. I was ready to throw it out but now I'm so grateful for the work he did on it.
