Hi everyone,

Happy Thanksgiving for yesterday to my patrons in the US! I hope you had a wonderful and relaxing day.

Here is the second succulent tutorial. The green succulent tutorial is here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/42170629

All of the files you need to complete the painting are attached below.

I'll put this tutorial on the indexes so you can find it when you want to paint it.

I'll have a fairly simple Holly Leaf tutorial for the beginners ready in a few days. Christmas will soon be here and then 2021 will be on our doorstep! The year has flown for me but that's normal - most years seem to fly by. I'm looking forward to 2021 because my first grandchild will be here! I can't wait.

Here's a quick look at the Flamingo painting I have made for Patreon. It will be a full length tutorial early next year: https://youtu.be/cyYsqKd1OLk

Have a fabulous weekend. I'm going to try and get some portrait painting practice done this weekend.

Do you have line PDF’s or JPEG’s without the inner “added lines” for where cast shadow goes & on many of the sections? Can try & trace using a light box but then those lines then confuse me in sketch but can see why helpful?

Louise De Masi

Hi Paula- no I don't I'm sorry. Just trace on everything onto your paper but leave off the dotted lines if they confuse you.

Chantal

An other great, well passed tutorial with amazing results that leaves you satisfied 🥰

Tracy Hughes

Hi Louise, am loving all the progress pics you are including, having more of them re stages really helps me to step back from the video tutorial after I have watched it and work through the painting without having to do it with the video... much easier to focus and learn to work unassisted re building skills and confidence :) Excited for you becoming a grandmother, what a beautiful time xxx

Louise De Masi

Thank you very much Tracy! I'm glad they are helpful. 😘

For no good reason that I'm aware of, I cleaned off my dining room/painting room table weeks and weeks ago. In that time I have not even been near paint! Today's the day to put it all back on the table and pick up where I left off. I'm actually a little nervous for some reason, lol! Anyway, of course this site is always the first place I visit when I want to paint and I'm excited to see even more tutorials have been added. Louise, I don't know how you do it, but I'm grateful that you do :)

Chloe McNie

It would be super helpful if you could put timestamps on the progress photos as well so you can find the point in the video that corresponds to that picture :)

Happy New Year, Louise! Thank you for the encouragement and challenge you have brought into my painting life in 2020. My grandchildren (4 of 13) are joining me weekly to paint as they received quality paint, paper and brushes for Christmas. Just imagine painting with your grandson soon! I know so little, but it’s a wonderful time of sharing. Another note: The addition of progress photos for the blue succulent made a big difference for me. I, too, was wondering if you can identify them by sequence ( time stamp?) I also found myself forgetting where the top was as I turned the painting. Be blessed in the days ahead. You are a blessing to many.

Louise De Masi

Happy new year Joyce! I think that's wonderful and I have already imagined having some paper and paints somewhere in the house that my grandchildren can use whenever they come to visit. I look forward to creating beautiful memories with them. Putting the minutes on the progress photos is a great idea and I've started doing it on the tutorials for 2021.

Wonderful! Thank you.

Lauren Moore

Hi Louise, I’m really enjoying your tutorials, and this blue succulent was right in my wheelhouse! As a newbie to watercolor, I do struggle a bit with the dark colors. They frequently look muddy or patchy or too full of stroke marks (in the case of bird paintings). Do you have any suggestions on how to smooth out these dark colors?

Louise De Masi

Hi Lauren, Dark colours can be difficult to use. If you have visible brush marks in your dark areas where you don't want them it's probably because your paint is drying on the paper. I find it helps to wet the paper and paint the dark areas on the wet or damp paper. If it's not dark enough once it has dried re wet it with water and do it a second or even a third time of you need to but always when the paper is wet or damp. If your dark area has dried and it looks awful and you want to try and fix it. Wet the dark area with water and wrap a tissue around your finger then dab at the wet surface to take some of the paint off. that should even it out a bit.

Barbara Mester

Thank you Louise! I tried the succulent nd I looooove it! can' stop watching it :) this magic of the colors mixing into each other and staying transparent... really nice techniques you are teaching. in fact, the bigger the picture, the more one can see these effects of mixing colors. I wonder, maybe one could develop it into something abstract...

Louise De Masi

Thank you Barbara. That's why I love painting in watercolour so much. It is magical and it never fails to surprise and delight.

Grazie Louise mi piace molto questo tutorial.Peccato che non riesco ad ottenere quegli splendidi colori granurali… come mai?cosa sbaglio? Il ceruleo è winsor e Newton professionale? Buona serata da Tiziana
