My tutorials are designed to help you on your creative journey. Any painting you create from a tutorial where I use my own reference photo is for personal use only. They can't be sold or entered into an art competition. I write on the Supplies Lists where the photos come from. Permission is not given to paint any of my earlier paintings that are not tutorials because some of them are licensed. Also, a few of my earlier paintings were painted from photographs where I sought the permission of the photographer. The photographer gave me permission to use it, not others.

If I do a tutorial where I use another photographer's photo (eg from Pixabay or Unsplash) that is available for anyone throughout the world to download (copyright free) and use I’m happy for you to sell the paintings you create from the tutorial.

If I do a tutorial and I use a photo that I have paid for and downloaded from the website Wildlife Reference Photos in order for you to sell the painting you create from the tutorial you need to purchase and download the photograph yourself. This is in accordance with the Terms and Services of the Wildlife Reference Photo website.

If you share a finished painting on social media I would really appreciate it if you could link back to my account (be it on Facebook, YouTube or Instagram) and mention that you painted it in one of my tutorials. @louisedemasi

Thank you!

When I visited my relatives in Australia and spent the last NYE on a farm, flocks of galahs landed on an apple tree and enjoyed their breakfast the next morning. They are like squirrels in the US but to Americans, they are absolutely beautiful. Your tutorials gave me the much needed guidance every step of the way to complete this project. The final phases of applying various shades of grays really helped separating the feathers. Your instructions were very clear. I especially appreciate you showing how you make a major corrections. I didn't have all the matching colors but I'm happy with the overall look of the finished painting. Thank you Louise!

Louise De Masi

Thanks so much for your lovely message Peiying! It's wonderful that you got to see the galahs in the wild. They are beautiful and are fun to watch although the farmers won't agree with me! I'm so glad the tutorial helped you, especially with those tricky grey feathers! It’s great to hear that even without all the exact colours, you're happy with your finished painting.

Judy Breedlove

So beautiful. I hope I can do my painting as well as this....at least I'll try. Thank you, Louise.

Kathy Wilden

I’m starting mine tomorrow…hope it all goes well

Kay Brady

I missed the use of lamp black. Can you tell me how it was used?

Wendy Parsons

Thank you so much for this wonderful galah tutorial Louise. I have wanted to paint birds for a long time but didn't know where to start! Living in Inverell, NSW, we have lots of birds visit us each day.

Kathy Wilden

I am in the middle of painting the galah, should finish tomorrow. I am watching YouTube where Louise is painting the Australian crested pigeons…I would love for her to do a tutorial of these beautiful birds….please Louise

Thank you Kathy. I'll put a crested pigeon on my list. They are sweet little birds.

Jeannine Rieckhoff

Wow this was Hard. I Tend to loose my patience with the feathers and ist gets messier

Rosalind

So beautiful! This was a very helpful tutorial on blending, negative painting, and layering. You make it look so easy! It doesn't come out that way for me though.

Louise De Masi

Thanks Rosalind. Lol.....😝 It didn't come out this way for me either for the first few years but I kept at it. 💕

Hi Louise. I tried a practice piece of the head and upper torso of the galah. The head came out pretty good. I am having problems with the grey feather. Unable to blend. I tried both, wet on wet and wet on dry. Is there any way to master blending in these tiny spaces. Secondly I love the pink tinge on your grey feathers. How do I get that? Thank you for your brilliant tutorials. I am officially hooked. Much love K

Louise De Masi

Hi Khushman, It takes practise and good brushes. My brushes have fine points which allow me to get in small places. I will sometimes use two brushes. I put the water on with one brush and the paint on with another. The more you do it, the better you will get. Patience is also required. I try not to rush through it and I take plenty of breaks. The pink tinge on the grey feathers is the Quinacridone Red seperating from Cobalt Turquose. I mixed those two colours for the grey. When the grey goes on the wet paper the colour seperates slightly. Thank you! 💕

I really enjoyed painting this galah, especially the gray feathers. And for once my background turned out well. Thank you so much, Louise, for another wonderful tutorial.
