Garfield is back with a new movie and is now fully animated with The Garfield Movie. As a long-time fan of the fat feline, I am curious to see how he does with his new animated movie. However, you’ll see in this review that Garfield’s big animated feature feels more like I’m experiencing Mondays than a fun adventure.

I remember all those years ago, when I only like 6 years old, I once convinced my family to go watch Two Brothers, a film about two sibling Indochinese tigers, instead of that infamous Bill Murray version of Garfield. And they loved it! That was way back in 2004 and I still consider that one of my greatest life victories! As for this new fully animated version of Garfield, I honestly liked it. It wasn't anything spectacular, as I assumed going into it in an early screening a couple weeks before its official release, but it still left me pleasantly surprised. The comedy wasn't always effective but the chemistry between the characters, like Garfield and his dad, gave me a reason to care for them and their perils, as generic and somewhat predictable as they were. Some Garfield fans may not like how much they make Garfield more of a smart-alek than the lazy slob he's known for, even moreso than the Garfield Show from the 80s, but at least this portrayal is way more respectful than how much the 2004 film and its sequel downright bastardized his character.
