I'm back in the heat of a reviewing marathon, where this new batch of work I have is all about creating a whole bunch of upcoming reviews one after another, both newly releases and some for ACR. I know there were some I did last week too, but I took a break on Father's Day and now I'm back with starting up some new ones. It's not really because I wanted to pack myself up with these types of videos, but it's just the timing of everything all came together where that's what my job needs me to do. I got to do other things at the same time, but in terms of my videos, this was the primary subject. However, in full detail, here's how my week has been.
- Released my review of Elemental: While it is disappointing to see that the main discourse of this movie is regarding how Pixar isn't the money maker it use to be, I've seen a variety of reactions regarding this picture. However, from what I've noticed, the majority seems pretty positive, and I'd consider myself a part of that. Do I believe this to be a great film? Honestly no. Especially when the writing is noticeably unpolished. But when something works in this movie, it works very well, especially with the animation and the romance between Wade and Ember is surprisingly effective for me, and I think the latter is the true make-or-break deal. If you can get engaged with the romance, then you'll likely enjoy this movie well. Even the short before it, Carl's Date, is the same thing. It's not an amazing short, but a really wholesome one that is very sweet, especially when hearing Ed Asner's final performance as Carl. Like I said, I think Elemental is one step under great and consider it as very good.
- Starting the next AniMat's Classic Reviews: I'll say now that, throughout the week, I didn't have a whole lot of time to really get advanced on my review work for the reasons that are listed below. In terms of ACR, the most that I was able to do was start the production with watching the movie, write the script, then record the voiceover. I'll have to put this project on hold for now because now there are other reviews that have need attention and be released sooner. By the way, no, this one is not The Secret of NIMH 2 review. This is the one after that. It's soon time to refill on those reviews anyways, so I might as well get ahead of that.
- I was a Guest in a couple of Podcasts: On wednesday, I was invited for two podcasts one after another. This will be between us on how it went. The first I did was with my friend Rachel on her podcast Hallmarkies. She decided to invite me to do a bonus episode regarding animated romance films based on the recent release of Elemental and that we both come up with 5 of our favorites. I honestly had a blast during that time, as we looked into a bunch of awesome movies and what is it about the romance in them that make it work. Rachel told me that our episode will be released next Wednesday on the 28th, so I can't wait to show you our knowledge and discussions on cartoon love! The next one, on the other hand, was not as great of an experience. I wouldn't say anything bad happened or that anyone was awful in there, it was just...unprepared. A producer I know wanted me and a small indie animator to go in a Zoom room and just chat amongst ourselves...that's it. No questions prepared, no subjects to get down into, he just wanted us to talk. That's all the instructions he gave us. The producer and the animator are nice guys, but some awkward pauses could've been avoided if there was a structure to follow to help us with the project. However, I'm sure he'll edit this down to capture the better moments of our chat to help with the video he wants to make with it. I don't know when that one will come, but I will let you know when it will arrive.
- Currently working on my review of Nimona: We finally have our answer of what the next weeks will look like in terms of my release schedule. It's official, I got to see Nimona early...or at least earlier than its official Netflix release. I was surprised to find that there was a cinema near me that was presenting the film, so I took the opportunity to go and grab the first viewing available and now I'm ready to make this review ready alongside its Netflix premiere. The only challenge now will b the same as my Pinocchio review, where due to the limited resources Netflix puts out to market the feature, I'll have to depend a lot on presenting images throughout my critiques. Then again, it will be worth it for the sake of having my first early review out in a while, so I'll make sure to make this video as awesome as what many people hope this movie will be.
So that's been my week with starting off this big batch of reviews amongst other events that occured. Again, this is only the beginning of what needs to be done, and I doubt that I'll be done with all of them before starting the next big project by next week. However, I am confident that I will have a lot done next week and you'll be hearing about some good progress on the next Update Blog. So, until next time...
See ya later, dudes!
