We all know about the original cinematic masterpiece, but what about its sequel, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence? In this review, we will look at how Innocence doubles-down on what the first Ghost in the Shell, especially with all of its philosophies. However, does it try too hard to be smart and act like its predecessor, or is it just me?

Haven’t seen the sequel yet, but I’ll get to it eventually but I am aware that is nowhere near as good as the first film. By the way, the next review is Yu Gi Oh The Movie: Pyramid of Light

Well was there when it was accidentally uploaded last week and man I probably wouldn’t tolerate watching it, though I should check out the original movie, since I remember watching the new series back in the day on Adult Swim. As for the next review, Mat practically spells it out.

While I myself am not really into anime all that much, I definitely do understand why the original Ghost in the Shell movie is considered to be a classic, as for the sequel, while I can see how it’s trying to be like the original it honestly feels inferior to it, especially when the story is really hard to follow and the characters aren’t as memorable as the original, I am still kinda wondering why you put this on your Top 10 best animated sequels list back in the day, but still I think the original is so much better. So the next review is going to be Yu Gi Oh The Movie: Pyramid of Light, this is going to be interesting to hear coming from you, who was a huge Yu Gi Oh fan back in the day and how you feel about it both as a reviewer and as a Yu Gi Oh fan.

I agree that the philosophical stuff is way too "thicc" to handle for some newcomers, but if you take that out completely, it's like removing eggs from an omelette: not much substance left to work with. Also, the basset hound in GITS2 is da bestest doggo.

I have seen the original Ghost in the Shell movie and I will agree that I think that it is one of the best movies in anime of all time. I was curious about the sequel Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence cause I have never seen it and I just worry that I would have to dig deep in the franchise to get the full story. But hearing your review and a surprise on how you briefly talked about this in your Top 10 Best Animated Sequels, I am concerned about watching it due to the mass amount of philosophy that could distract than engage within the movie. But for the animation, I know Production I.G. is solid and have always been solid when it comes to this genre at best (along with some action, horror, fantasy, and sports series). As well as a great help from the other outsourced studios as well (I had no idea that Studio Ghibli was involved in helping with this movie). As for the idea of mixing C.G with the 2D elements, yeah it makes sense, as it was the time when studios in Japan were trying to use the tools to help enhance their craft to help build more dimensional space especially for films like this when there is action and alot of movement. I am glad that Mamoru Oshii did a good job with the first but could have improved with the second. I hear that he is still working and is a screen writer for a series called "The Fire Hunter" done by Signal MD (check it out, its good), who are under the holding company I.G. Port that also owns Production I.G. and Wit Studios. Now for the next movie, I can't wait for Yu-Gi-Oh! and the Pyramid of Light, I loved that movie when I was a kid cause I was into the franchise. I highly recommend watching both the sub and dub if you are a fan (for me personally I watch the sub version). I haven't watched The Dark Side of Dimensions yet, but I know that it was supposed to be the actual end that follow's the manga not the anime for how the story was really supposed to end as it was written by Kazuki Takahashi (God rest his soul). As for Pyramid of Light, I think it does have some good dueling, but I think that it suffers from the whole "we got to have dueling cause that what sells for the merchandising" (that is just coming from the perspective of coming from me being older and looking at things with a bit more of a critical eye). Yet when I see the sub I am more inclined to think that is how the tone is as I felt off with the dub as we see Yugi get stabbed in the series from a monster which to me as I kid, never really sat well for me as it was a bit disturbing. But anyway, I can't wait for December for this movie to be reviewed since I am a big Yu-Gi-Oh! fan.

I love philosophical stuff, but this movie was way too dense for me. The anime GitS: Stand Alone Complex is my favorite part of the franchise.

Hi Matt. I was just asking if you have gotten my next Patreon request (I emailed it). I’m also looking forward to your next classic review on Yu-Gi-Oh the Movie: Pyramid of Light. PS: It’s time to D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-Duel!
