Hide the songs you are unsure about in the podcast, then when you hear how amazing everyone thinks they are, you will feel good about releasing them. I think you should go for your dream with writing and performing. If that is what you feel in your heart that you want to do, then that is what you should do imo. I never got the chance to follow my dream fully since my health took a turn for the real bad, and i regret to this day 12 years later not taking the chance to live the dream while i could. Much love and many hugs to you Malu, and thank you for sharing your thoughts with us:)

I love this episode too! And yes, give us all the songs. Also, writing and performing and so on!

Wait a tick, 10 AM you say? Looks like YouTube disagrees... Malukah Live Concert Malukah Scheduled for 4/29/22, 8:00 PM I'm PST, so I'm pretty sure that's 10PM your time. Just a heads up! 🙂

Letodan

I was surprised to see 11pm in my timezone for a concert... I thought, oh wow, a night concert! Seems it won't be the case! :-D

Ok... so many things I want to say. First of all, While I'm listening to what you are saying, I also listen to that beautiful music in the background that you composed a few years ago I think. I just love it . And I was thinking that you should compose more music like that. I know you have the talent to do it. I would enjoy it very much and the podcast could be somewhere to try new stuff. I'm just saying. Also, since you were yourself mentionning it, you can also try songs and stuff that you don't feel like sharing anywhere else... I would love that. About you saying that you don't know if the time is right for you to start writing a book... I'm tempted to say "the time is now!". Don't wait for later, if you have any ideas (I'm sure you do and maybe you did that already), put them on paper... start writing parts of it and put things together. I know you're going to say that you are already doing too many things and don't have time. Yes, I'm sure it's true. But if it is a passion and a dream, find some time, let go of something else that you might not like doing as much. If it is a dream, pursue it. If you wait, maybe it's going to be too late later, especially since writers rarely become known with their first book, it can take a while and a few of them before the word of mouth does its job. So I say, GO!! Dive in!!! ;-) I want to read whatever you'll come up with Malukah!! Until then, keep the music in your heart, always!

Excellent Mucuscast. Even without added mucus, your voice is very soothing Group performance activity= choir perhaps?

David DeKeizer

"Yeah Malukah !! " Just shows how great a community you have built after going viral, I know the internets can be very toxic, especially to female creators, and I appreciate you and your willingness to be real instead of striving to have everything you release be 'perfect'. As to the writing... I would say dive in, not just for chasing your dream but because you are a parent and the most important thing a parent can give their kid {beyond unconditional love and acceptance} is a love of reading.

I'm really enjoying the Malukasts and having the opportunity for a more meaningful interaction, even if it is a bit one-sided due to the nature of social media. I can't even imagine trying to respond or even hit "like" on the number of comments you get, particularly on YouTube. I like the idea of "hiding" some of the work you're less happy with in the podcasts, but what about posting more of those as "rough cuts" on Patreon as well, but as a song and not in a podcast? I would think that Patreon in general is a fairly friendly place for that sort of thing, and personally, that's the type of content that I would see adding a lot of value to being a Patron. You asked if there's anything that makes us feel a lingering calling. There are TONS of things that make me feel that way. But the big one is music. I was very into music in high school. I played in the band. I was the audio engineer for our jazz choir. There was something so magical about those concert nights, whether I was on stage taking part in the performance, or behind the sound board mostly listening and making my friends sound their best. I've often wished I continued that path instead of going into Software Development. When I think about it, the thing that's missing is that connectedness, being part of something bigger than yourself, and being a part of a team. I personally think its worth pursuing that where you can - performance, sports, religion, community - whatever works for you. I get some of that with my software teams, and it really helps. (But it's just not the same as that emotional connection you get through music and performance.) I often go down a rabbit hole of "What if..." What if I stayed in music? What if I quit and wrote a book? What if I moved to a different city? What if I didn't have kids? What if I had more kids? And when I think about those things, there's always a bit of longing for bits and pieces of what my life could have been, and the pieces that haven't quite worked out how I expected them to. But I think that's normal. Those questions help us learn and grow. But if there's something you REALLY feel a longing for, and you seriously want to pursue later in life like your writing... Don't wait. Just do it. There is no "right time" for it. It's better to make some small progress now, and keep building on it over time. Like I said after episode one, just pick something. Start small. Baby steps. But all those little steps add up over time. You'll still have the same journey ahead of you if you start later, but you'll have less time to grow and achieve your goals. So you might as well take the first small step now, even if those steps don't take you very far or don't happen very often. At least it's moving you forward.

I don't know if it was on my end but I could barely hear what you said.

"Prolific Mucus" is a good name for that rock band you're gonna start. (It's punk rock, you see). About the wanting to be a writer thing: Fam, you wrote a freaking book. You literally, by definition, already are a writer. So you know, just keep writing if it's what you wanna do. (Great advice coming from an epic procrastinator who has been agonising over a single short story for several years.) Tip: Make a Google Doc or something else you can access on your phone. And every time there's even a few minutes of downtime, like for example waiting for an appointment to start, whip that sucker out and jot down a sentence or two. I know the traditional image of capital W Writing is being bunkered up in a study banging away at a typewriter, but it doesn't have to be like that. Text is text, even if it's feverishly scribbled on a napkin in a hurry.

Dear Malukah, I like your podcast very much. For me it feels like getting a bit closer to you, as you share your thoughts and feeling with us. So it makes it a bit less one-sided (as you called it). Concernin your love of writing and the question of pursuing it now or at a later time: Just ask yourself how important it is/it feels to you now. If it is very important to you, I think you should pursue it now. You never know what comes later and in these crazy timesI think it is very important to live in the moment, to do the things that you love now. As for actively looking for a group of people to work with, make music with, etc., I dont't know: Because you can't force something like this. If there is no group available at the moment, there isn't much you can do. So in my opinion the best way would be to keep your eyes open in that direction, but at the moment go forward on your current path as a solo artist. Most important I love the idea of you sharing some music here tat ist in the process of creation. What a lovely idea. Love, Heike

Thank you for sharing. With regards to wanting to do more and having the longing, I think it really depends on your priority and your decisions about them. Generally speaking, most of us can find ways to do almost anything we want if our desire and passion is strong enough. And sometimes timing is not right. Sometimes it's hard to find the energy to keep all the plates spinning while wanting to add another. It is good to find out what support you have among family and friends. Sometimes it's scary to ask. Sometimes it's just scary to take the leap. But you'll never know if you don't. It is also very ok to acknowledge that there are reasons why certain goals may never be realized, and it can be a bit of a mourning process, and that's ok too. Take the leap. Ask your friends for help. Ask them if they know of someone in need of your talents. And hey. If you know someone you want to work with that feels like a dream, ask them. Be brave. And thanks again for all you do. Hang in there!
