"Woke" means simply to be aware of other people, and in particular the injustices that are part and parcel of our government and society. It means having empathy towards those less fortunate than you. All people have value.

I tried something different in the arrangement for this one -- when auditioning styles of music in Band In A Box, this one in particular had a sitar drone that I really liked. Let me know what you think.

I am woke,  Which only means  That I care about my fellow human beings We all have the right to life and liberty, The pursuit of happiness, and dignity.  Diversity, equity, inclusion Means everyone is welcome on our shore .This is the promise of America, And it's a promise that I promise to restore.

Things are much darker than they ought to be,  They're angry, they're crazy, they're cruel.  The country's being ruled by people  Who don't care about the people they rule. Right now, they think they are winning In a war that no one wants to fight but them, But they don't know what they’ve started  They don't know we control how it will end, my friend --

[chorus]

They're afraid of anything they think is wrong,And by “wrong” they mean “different from them”.They don't understand how the world works,But they think they do, and from that, they condemn. Women, people of color, and indigenous Are not the enemy, they only want to live.Trans, nonbinary, gays, and drag queens -- even kidsCan't hurt you by existing, they have only love to give.

[chorus]

Two hundred fifty years ago, we made our way Towards a shining city on a hill.It wasn't perfect then, it isn't perfect now,But we’ll be more perfect with the heart and will.So the task that is before usIs the restoration of our nation's dream:A government of, by, and for the people So that shining city on the hill can gleam. can gleam,So that shining city on the hill can gleam!

[chorus x2]

It's a promise that I promise to restore. It's a promise that I promise to restore.

This recording sounds a bit muddy, and the chorus almost disappears sometimes.
