Here we go, chapters 13 to 15!

Let me know if you have any feedback.

Please note that to make the timelines match up, I've also made a small change to the last batch of chapters. Yassi's scene from Chapter 10 has now been moved to Chapter 12, so it meshes better with Corec's timeline. The wording in Yassi's scene has been tweaked slightly to match the new circumstances. You can find the new version of those chapters here.

Another set of wonderful chapters Ivy. Thank you. I like how you weaved in happenings in Sinavar with the main story. Regarding the Jade bracelet, was that realm traveling or something similar to what First does - dream traveling? Looking forward to the rest of the story as usual. Thanks again.

great set of chapters, Ivy! Was just wondering if Corec's special gifts (like the First's is to travel to the dream world) is to select the best possible bondmates, or is it that he can do arcane spells while wearing armour?

ivyveritas

It might be kinda similar to [spoiler], but not quite like [redacted]. Hope that helps! ;-)

The Lady mentions (to Vatarxis) that she blessed Corec to always choose the "right" bondmates, but since she didn't realize Razai was one of them, that must mean that even she doesn't know what those criteria are. It's not the same kind of blessing that grants divine magic, though. As for Corec's warden gift ... well, it'll be interesting to find out!

one more thing.. Iris is mentioned as being ashamed of the elves behaviour during the Second Demon War... so is that shame referring to the elves sending the chosar to fight for them or to the elves allying with the demons instead of the humans / chosar?

ivyveritas

We're not really supposed to know more than what the sentence says, but the exact wording is this: "ashamed of what her people did to the Chosar," so I'll let you draw your own conclusions. Our only PoV scene from someone who was alive during that time was Pallisur's scene at the end of Book 3, and he didn't mention anything about elves allying with demons.

William Guyaux

My personal theory is that Corec's Warden Gift is the ability to bond more people than normal, but I'll be the first to admit that I have nothing in the story to base this on.

Norbert Borer

@William Guyaux I’ve came to the same conclusion based on the following sentences in Book 3 / Chapter 36: “He believed it had something to do with choosing mages for the warden binding spell, even though Yelena and Hildra hadn’t mentioned anything like it. Now, he was experiencing the same sensation again, with Bobo. And with Ariadne.” He is already bonded with 7 persons. Why should he get this feeling for two additional ones when he could only bind one? I know it is far fetched but anyway.

Aspiring Sage

Lol. Perfect. Good thing I am used to reading reports like that and know *exactly* what you meant haha.

Aspiring Sage

That is a fun theory. But I read that particular excerpt as meaning that the Lady's blessing is telling him either of those two would be a fine 8th bond mate. My personal pet theory remins that he gets Yassi. But that is looking less and less likely with each chapter.

Aspiring Sage

I feel that if elves had allied with demons, Ariadne would have been far more passed than she was. Not to mention, the elves allied with chosar as subordinates by the third demon war. In fact, wasn't there quite a bit about the Chopard basically being slave soldiers of some kind then overtaking their 'masters' by the third demon war?

Aspiring Sage

*pissed not passed; *Chosar not Chopard

I've also thought about Corec getting Yassi. However, the more I think about it, it looks like Bobo would be a good 8th bondmate for Corec. The only thing Corec is missing is a bondmate blessed by the old gods. He's got elder magic (Shavala and Sarette), arcane magic (Ellerie), divine magic (Treya), demonic magic (Razai), unknown source magic (Katrin and Leena) so far. So good to round out the magics with a person blessed by one of the old gods.

Would the storm born be descended from the chosar hybrids that Boreas talks about in the prologue in Book 4? Also its mentioned that the verb forms of the stormborn language is very similar to the chosar language.

Aspiring Sage

Stormborn seem to have the most similar traits. However, I think they were created in the Chosar's image by Borisur after he ascended and became a God. Maybe as a penance.

Raman BNV

Just a theory i'm putting out here: At the time of the Burning, could the residents of the citadel been turned into the zombies? And maybe the chosar outside the citadel have been turned into the Stoneborn? since the original home of the stoneborn is the Skotinos Mountains...

Aspiring Sage

The idea of the remaining chosar turning into stoneborn seems the easiest answer. However, it does not mesh with a few things. Which is that the new Gods created new races at about the same time, and they had a desire to save the chosar. It seems the only escapees from tir yadir were the humans and elves. So the most likely scenario is that all the Chosar died.

Came across this section in Book 1, Chapter 14: Bobo says, "“Well, I discovered that the legends of The Dead God first originated amongst the dwarves. I’d never heard that before.” I'm assuming the Dead God is Zachal. So if the dwarves know the Dead God, could they be humans who were turned into Dwarves by the Burning? Or could Zachal be responsible for creating the Dwarves (before dying), like Irisis probably created the Seaborn?
