Here are some images I worked up of the runes I haven't shown yet (though you may have been able to see tiny bits and pieces on the book covers). These runes are for Razai, Sarette, and Leena. The earlier runes can be found in an older post here.

I'm not really an expert on the graphics software I'm using, but these came out pretty close to what I wanted. The only big difference is that on Razai's, it should all look like one connected image, rather than one image overlaid on top of another, the way it looks now. But other than that, I'm happy with them.

I have liked all the runes so far, except for Leenas. No particular reason I can justify beyond that it's a it generic compared to the rest. I guess with the others I,can see a connection to their story within your story, but Leena's doesn't connect for me like that.

ivyveritas

Leena's rune is a compass rose, the figure on a map that indicates the cardinal directions.

Does the Compass Rose play more to her Seeker ability (Which may have gotten the bigger boost) or to her Traveling ability?

ivyveritas

We've learned that a binding rune is controlled by the person casting the spell, though Corec didn't have conscious control until Sarette's and Leena's (the earlier ones were from his subconscious). His thought process for Leena was basically "she travels to lots of places on the map, so maybe I can think of something from a map. Oh, yeah, a compass rose." That's still more thought than Yelena puts into hers (she just uses basic geometric shapes). Rusol's the one warden we've seen who gets fancy with them, per the stylized cat image he used for Yassi (after he first sketched it out for practice). I didn't describe Hildra's runes, so we don't know what those look like.

Aspiring Sage

Oh yes! I missed that. Ok, I am converted. Lol.

Nice Images, Ivy! I was just wondering if you will be giving us an updated map with Pado and the other continents?

ivyveritas

I'd like to, but it's gone beyond what I can do with paper and pencil, so it'll come down to having the time to figure out how to use mapping software to recreate my existing maps, then add new ones.

ivyveritas

I've purchased Wonderdraft for mapping, but I don't know how to use it. I need to figure out how to import or recreate all my existing work at the correct scale, then add new stuff around it. I'm not sure when I'll have the time.

Aspiring Sage

Ivy, this map program seems to be free, and this YouTube video is a tutorial. I wish I had time to do it for you, but maybe another fan on here had some time and can try.

So Ivy, it's about that time of the month where I ask you when you expect the next batch of chapters to drop? We won't hold you to the exact date, but a general estimation would be great. Thanks.

ivyveritas

Four weeks would put us at August 19th, so that's the absolute earliest. It might take another week beyond that. We'll have to see. Things are starting to heat up, and I want to make sure to get the scenes right.

ivyveritas

UPDATE: It definitely won't be the 19th. I'll probably need the full extra week I mentioned in my previous post.

By the way Ivy, I was reading Book 3 Chapter 2, and I came across this section, where Rusol gets his blessings from Snake. Its mentioned that he now has blessings where he can heal, how to protect himself from physical attacks and how to block magical attacks. If he can heal, then how come he didn't try to heal King Marten when the king gets a overdose of medicine? Did he wantedly let King Marten die?

ivyveritas

Marten was already dead before they entered the room. Rusol was in shock, not thinking clearly, but he did try to heal his father once he realized the situation was too urgent to wait for Magnus. He hasn't practiced using his healing senses though, and didn't realize Marten was actually dead until they turned him over (healing senses work better by touch). Hope this helps!

This brings up a good point that’s been itching in the back of my brain, new patron here by the way, about necromancy and the like Ivy: given the existence of reanimation and preservation of bones, bodies and flesh for zombies, does resurrection/revival spells or blessings exist in-universe? Also, is magic rooted in the soul or the body, i.e. if one were to zombify a mage would said creature be able to cast their former magic or not?

ivyveritas

There aren't any resurrection spells, though Pallisur hasn't yet explained what he means by using the four magics to "bring back *our* people", so we don't know if he's speaking in general or specific terms. Magic is connected to the mind or the soul or however you want to think of it, and a basic spell to create a skeleton or zombie will make something that's completely mindless and can only follow orders, but necromancy is a broader discipline than just that. For example, the zombies in Tir Yadar were created in a different way, and still maintained enough of their minds to move about on their own (though not enough to use any sort of magic). And Lodarin's spell to keep himself alive but asleep for weeks on end while he was recovering from drain shock is hinting at something more. I haven't gone into detail on necromancy because it doesn't really have much impact on the story, but there's more to it than we've seen. It's mostly just in the story to show that we're only seeing a small part of a much larger world--and because at one point, it was on the list of possibilities for one of the PoV characters. I decided against it almost as soon as I considered it, but it did briefly make the list.

Brian Woods

Coolio, I was asking because of a specific line from Pallisur about ‘breaking the rules’, and wondered if resurrecting the dead was one of those boundaries the divines put on themselves like the nonintervention pact. Given that it appears he will need 8 wardens or former wardens to cast his combining ritual, I speculated he might choose to attempt to bring back dead ones, or possibly reanimated ones, like his Priest or the former First and Second to round out his numbers. But, if dead is dead so to speak, other avenues will need to be pursued. Thanks!
