Gefendur down by one. Goodwin better be perfect here. He's benefited by limited partner experience from the wright and a very jumpy man on the spear who seems intent on keeping himself interposed between himself and his spellcaster. Perhaps try a modest salvo of psycho-babble.

Beat his bitch ass, Will.

OOHHH THE JIG IS UP!!! exciting but scary!

Michael Stakely

Goodwin best watch his words and his step else his whole world could come crashing down around him.

Approaching the circle? Don't become a casualty of friendly (or not-so-friendly) fire, Amadwe!

PotentPinion

"actually it WASN'T hype af, a lady did it!!!"

PotentPinion

That lion's paw cane is part of a matched set, actually, but you wouldn't know it because the cunning Amadwe has secreted it up his own ass

JarJar

I can't tell yet if Argenti Sr is the kind of man that would blow Miki's cover for the sake of Ssaelit principles. Either he let's a woman win this thing or he let's the walking dead stay in Durlyne. Some might consider that a lose lose either way.

Ashley

Hahaha, Amadwe hasn't endeared himself to you, I see :3

Ashley

Yeah, we just dunno him well enough yet. Let's see if he does anything.

Khyrberos

Hm. I feel like the man who sent Duane to his death in order to bring about Ssaelit supremacy (or at least stop the backsliding) isn't gonna quibble with the cultural morality of a girl fighting in secret. Like, surely he's gonna keep this secret (but Lemuel's definitely gonna hear about it if he ever escapes, lol).

JarJar

Hmm. I'm not entirely convinced that Argenti's involvement in Duane's death is that clear cut? He's such a mystery! This book could reveal that it was never about Ssael supremacy and he just wanted Bastion's perfected method to cheat death. That said, there's a chance that Ol' Long haired Argenti Sr might not be so orthodox, especially considering his family had made their fortune and funded the temple by importing smut. But then there's also that whole business with his wife... Where does he draw the line? And what I'm really curious about, is if his ssaelit misogyny might outweigh his ssaelit pride? Or if this is all just business to him. Tricky, tricky.

Dying Ace

The guy has actively ticked us off in the past book and so far not much reason to change that impression. He is at least pragmatic stopping his people from going ape shit on major govt official business. You write complicated people so everyone gets some leeway from me.

Khyrberos

I'll have to reread that scene again, but while granted we are seeing Lemuel's POV & narration (& thus reasoning for the sacrifice), I don't really know what other reason Argenti *would've* had to send ~~Lemuel~~ Duane to Bastion like that. I mean, just purely out of spite/to help out his buddy Bastion?? For the love of the game? Ok maybe that last one; after all he sent his <10y.o. son to die in war. 🤔 Still, I understand him as a staunch Ssaelit & interested in their longevity. Now, as you touch on (& what I think my ultimate point was), Argenti doesn't seem super-orthodox. He's a man of passions & contention. I feel like it's very likely he privately flips out about Mikaila but publicly will keep up the facade (because to do otherwise totally destroys these negotiations/this fight/this situation, right? And he said (paraphrased) "Don't take me following Shadwe's orders as tacit agreement with them", so he's not out to ruin things)

Khyrberos

I mean he doesn't like Duane, what more reason do I need to hate the guy? 😉 (j/k I don't hate him. Very intriguing character)

Duke BG

I'm kinda fine with Argenti Sr. But I'm also likely forgetting something from book 1, since I'm not fully understanding what ticked readers off

PotentPinion

I mean just to be clear, he's a great character! Media appreciation mode: I like him, very interesting guy. Wrestling fan mode: I hope they throw him off the top of the cage.

CelebrenIthil

Is that a Vagrant Story reference. It sounds like a Vagrant Story reference, only I haven't played it so I can't know.
