Two pages today. You'll see her Majesty Queen Sonorie looking absolutely smashing in an ensemble honouring those Peaceguard lost in the great tragedy here at the Port some weeks ago. No pymary in play, as she knew she'd be coming into this pymary-sensitive environment, but who needs glowy sparklies when one is already as naturally striking as Cresce's stately ruler~

Also no, Nora, those are tea implements; not torture implements. Get your head in the game, c'mon.

I forgot Nora is such a jingo she thought Duane was an aldish superweapon

LordOfChains

Nora seems to respond a mite poorly to feeling like the ignorant one…

Michael Stakely

At least Duane can still appreciate the absurdity of his current situation.

Rifter

That laugh from Duane likely hurts Nora more than if she was on the table being shocked right now. Hha ha indeed! Oh man the parallel transitions between father and daughter the last few pages are fantastic. It's poetic, but also gives the perfect sense of how many turning points are happening in the story at once. The pot's about to boil over.

I see uncle Guiscard is every bit as shitty as we imagined he would be. "What we black tongues teach our baby children" - sounds like Jivi needs to read up on the Black Tongues a bit more before pretending to be one :( And Pinky looking on with a very skeptical expression there...

Rifter

A petulent child. I honestly hope the Queen embarrasses her further by making her rein in the use of the shock button.

Cherenkov

Hahah it’s happening!

Spider

One of my favorite things to say during my assessment of a hospital patient (assuming it's true, of course): "Sense of humor intact, that's a reassuring sign."

Ashley

Well like, he kinda is :D

PotentPinion

Gigglers get the car battery!

Noto

Not gonna lie, I've been loving the sidetrack to Miki and Alderode... even if Doon Adel is in peril right now, I never minded leaving the main cast. And ugh, the doctor... I'm sure hes got his issues but the way he's more focused on saving a person's tooth than decent and indecent Ill forgive the switch back because Jivi is ADORABLE!!! Ough, look at him starstruck, the wee lad.

Josh

It occurs to me everyone in this room is a bit of an evil bastard except Jivi. Jivi is the best. I love that he's so struck by the queen's presence he risks blowing his cover (which I believe is being held together by refuge-in-audacity in the first place) to salute her properly. I mean, I ain't got a patriotic bone in my fat body, but I can respect it when it's innocently sincere. And Jivi is like that at least partly because he actually believes in Cresce's ideals. (Because Jivi is the best.)

Josh

(Oh wait, actually Brawny-Leg's kind of a question mark on the wickedness front, I'm being biased because he's a loud brash Sharteshanian necromancer and my brain fills in the blanks with Gargamel.)

Noto

Aw man. And I just realized but it was Goodwin's punch that cracked the tooth, huh? Not even earned in a proper battle, insult to injury

Rainwalker

Gotta know your audience, Nora, Queen’s not gonna appreciate the torture button… though she does seem to be enjoying the pastries :3 and wow, what a chilling intro for banker uncle. You can really feel the chafe

Ashley

Haha, I think Brawny Leg... is an opportunist. He let Jivi in here to get to Duane because he hoped to impress Nora with the kid's insight (and maybe score a point with Beadman, though Sette is a liar about that). It's sleazy, it's definitely duplicitous, and it's not being a very good guest. Regardless, Jivi is definitely the best.

SET

stop Jivi pls your generating /cringe/

Sanctity

Ach! You are the one who needs to read up on Black Tongues more. Ach, baby children is a turn of phrase for Black Tongue apprentices. Of course Bugman Jigley knows Black Tongues can't have children of their own. Ach!

Josh

Brawny Leg seems like a typical Sharteshanian in that regard, sleazy and duplicitous being par for the course, and I sure as fart don't expect him to suddenly act *heroic*, I just realized that, like, everyone else in there has done actual war crimes (OR is a pink, cartoonishly mean girl out to do bad deeds) so, hardly seemed like a fair comparison

Duke BG

I support Jivi. I also support the doctor trying to save the tooth. The level of ridiculousness around the queen is over the top, though. And Jivi will have to embarrass himself / lose queen's respect with what to come re:freeing Duane.

Chantal Fournier

My first reflex was to assume he kneeled to hide his face from the Queen, but I don't remember him being around her during the battle so I don't know that it's a concern.

Capsandnumbers

I really like the lost tooth vs lost eye. And Tea with Queen Sonorie! The prophecy is fulfilled

Rob N

...Bastion just simply didn't get around to installing the direct link to the Aldish state (or to whoever else financed Duane's creation) because he was rudely interrupted.

Cassie

I gotta ask, because my brain always goes to Women's Healthcare in these situations: so is this "indecent" because of the specific circumstances, or if a woman has tooth trouble on a Tuesday in her kitchen she's just shit out of luck and can't be treated because it'd be "indecent"?

Malik M.L. Williams

Or “indecent” because she “did it to herself” by putting herself in that situation in the first place? I am not liking this uncle person. 🤨

Ashley

Jivi's been very hurt by his captors insisting he's not Crescian. To have the Queen of his country herself here outright call him a Crescian is very meaningful to him.

Ashley

A woman being touched by a man here, outside her home, without her guardian's permission, is pretty indecent by Uncle's way of thinking. No one asked him if he could touch his niece. He wants her back home.

Cassie

God I cannot even imagine how much Leysa's family must hate Lem.

Flyfly

Don't let the unc-hole distract you from how funny Jivi is fumbling, fandom!

Ashley

You know it. Someone goes off about him next page.
