I drew this scene earlier last month when lots of different versions of A Christmas Carol were around, and Duane here must feel a little like one of the Christmas ghosts moving through Scrooge's memories. Except Scrooge himself is reliving the past and not merely watching his past self. I don't know how you can really help someone in that situation except to wait for them to get beyond it and catch them once they have.

Of course mechanically Duane and Sette really don't know how any of this works. They're doing their best. And Cleet really shouldn't have punched her.

This is just like in Sharpe, all those times Sharpe's super officers would catch him mucking about with the lads

Stillpoint

I can imagine everyone - absolutely everyone, including the dogs - going absolute pin-drop silent once Nary opens that door. This is the moment in the game where the fight music just hard cuts right out to dead quiet.

Well Cleet, think of it this way: You'll probably not make another mistake this bad for the rest of your life.

Michael Stakely

Cleet messed up at least five different ways here; clumsy enough to tip off the target, got an injury that made him less usual to his family, didn't follow the directions of his Boss, did something that'll raise questions that'll embarrass the family, and, to tie it all up neatly, blasphemed on a holy day. That kid was a veritable clown car of incompetence.

Duane covering his mouth in the background... T-T And of course it all just goes around and around, Cleets generally not being formed in a vacuum. The tension in that last panel is, whoo, a lot.

Well Cleet, as far as mistakes go, that was your last...

Speaking of Dickens, here comes Fagin and Sike's lovechild through the door.

I love the juxtaposition of “ghost” Duane hovering protectively over Sette (even if he can do nothing), with the shadowy figure of Da Frummagem looming in the background. Visual poetry!

Noxae

Ooof, poor Sette. That looked extra painful. :(

Question: Is the girl in the bandana Anadyne? Heh… Bandanadyne…

I cannot express just how excited I am to finally get a decent peek into Settes past, and especially a good look at Nary. He has been this looming figure of Settes whole world.
