No worries, Veggie. Take the time you need and enjoy some relaxing time with Woozle ❤️

Stephen Hert

You’re an amazing content creator and human. Having to produce and edit your own content is exhausting, so take your time. We’re gonna be here. That being said, I can’t wait for the Mockingjay Pt. 2 reaction! Also, I just got done with the books and they were FANTASTIC, and the movies were very true to the books. While reading, I felt like I was watching the movies. You don’t get that too often. Anyways, we love you, Veggie, rest up and we’ll be waiting!!

Katie

Just enjoy the sunshine with Woozle and take your time with the channel. We can wait. Your health is more important ☀️🐶🐾

Louisa

Hi Veggie, first of all please take good care of yourself! Take your time when you feel you need to and no apologies needed. I have autism and know all to well how it feels having done to much. I would love reading The Hobbit with the book club just because it has so much more story than the movies show. So much to talk about there. Sending you and Woozle lots of positive vibes and enjoy your day! ❤️

VeggieGamer

It really doesn’t help that I have only just realised it looks like I am doing the ‘One does not simply walk into Mordor’ meme in the thumbnail…..

SapientButterfly

Take your time to relax, enjoy the sunshine, we all need these kinds of days! I like your idea of trialing with The Hobbit and seeing how it goes. I'm here for a good variety of your content and will definitely be here for Hunger Games book reviews. Personally I'm inclined to agree that LotR might not work as well with the format as HP or HG will. But that is just my opinion, I've read the LotR books and I just don't really enjoy them. One of the very few times where I prefer the movies to the books. So I think it definitely serves to try these things, see how it goes and we'll be here along for the ride whatever and however you choose to do things. Ultimately it's got to be what works best for you. I'm sure most people will be here either way 😊

Dipper

Here's my feedback, Veggie: You can't please everybody. No matter what decision you make, you'll have some who love it, some who hate it, and some who are largely indifferent to it. But if you prioritize doing what YOU want, then your excitement and your interest will shine through in your videos, and that will increase the quality of what you're doing. So the best thing you can do to make the most people happy is do what you find most interesting. Now, all of that said, I think something that could strengthen the channel quite a bit and act as a consolation prize for the people who aren't getting what they want right away would be for you to do one or two movies a month that are NOT serialized in any way, just a nice one-and-done that won't create any other large commitments for you. And make yourself some kind of schedule that caps your work at a reasonable amount of time per week so that you aren't so burnt out.

Cj Hayes

I don’t really have an opinion on Lotr/hobbit but I would finish HP first then worry about HG later. Trying to do two book clubs concurrently will be a nightmare, I think. And then you can give your full attention to HG. Ultimately it’s your call, though 😊

PumpkinSparks

I didn't even realize that until you pointed it out. Now I can't unsee it 😂

Emiel Callaars

I have always just waited until you post. it does not matter to me if it is late, it will be here when it is and it is always enjoyable. Just keep yourself healthy and happy (and woozle ofcourse). Regarding Lord of the Rings, i am a big fan but i sincerely believe that it would not lend itself well for a book review. The Hobbit is a nice short in between book for review in my opinion. I have no idea how The Hunger Games will be as a book review as i have not read it myself, which might change when you start the book review for it.

PumpkinSparks

I second every comment that told you to take care of yourself first and do what you enjoy! If 2 book clubs are too much, that is absolutely fine. If you do want to do 2 concurrently, I think it's fair to do Hobbit first and then Hunger Games. I think everyone understands why you havn't started it yet, but you unintentionally have been carrot dangling Hobbit for quite some time now. That being said, Hobbit is VERY different than LotR! It's more a childrens book while the rest is targeted more towards adults. So even if the Hobbit does well, it's not an indication for any other Tolkien. I would actually argue that it's the only Tolkien that lends itself towards book club. It would be interesting to revisit it though. I personally don't care for the Hobbit. I devoured LotR and Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales, but put the Hobbit down after like one third of it and never felt the need to pick it up again. More than a decade later my opinion of it might be different, who knows?

Josh Z

I'm listening to the Hunger games for the first time. It's been an interesting experiment and quite enjoyable. The books are first person so everything is from Katniss's pov, it's definitely great to hear what is going on inside her head given how psychological the world and characters are. I don't have any investment in Tolkien but I can wait if that's chosen next:)

Ирина Устюгова

I haven't read Lord of the Rings, but I'd love to. I like the Hunger Games books, though they never touched me as much as Harry Potter. I'm here for Harry Potter. If you feel comfortable reading two books at once, that's good. Personally, I never like reading two books at once because one always ends up being a procrastination before I get back to the "main book." But I know a lot of people have no problem reading two books at once, or even multiple series. If that works for you, that's great. As long as Harry Potter continues to come out, I'm not worried about it.

Madikuma95

I'm mainly here for Harry Potter and Buffy, but I'd vote for the Hobbit over Hunger Games ❤️

STAYoung

Look after yourself Veggie. It would be pretty cruel of us to squeeze you for content if we see that it is taking a toll on you. I think your plan for using the Hobbit as a JRR Tolkien, non-committal test-drive is a great one. The Lord of the Rings movies are quite faithful to the books compared to The Hobbit so I feel like that's a reason there's less to talk about.

Delia P

You shouldn’t feel that you need to rush it and do 2 at the same time, but if you’re determined it’s up to you, what do you want to read first. My personal preference would be Hunger Games as it’s not too long and an easy read. I haven’t read The Hobbit but I have read Lord of the Rings, and while JRR Tolkien is undisputedly a brilliant storyteller, his writing isn’t an easy read so not sure how interesting it would be in slow chapter format. Looking forward to Mockingjay part 2.

Christina Brock

I'm autistic too, and burnout is no joke. Please don't do that to yourself just to get us the content we want. It's not worth the price you would pay. Having said that, here is my input on what I'd like you to do next if you have the time and energy: I don't like the Hunger Games. I'm only watching the movie reactions because it's you, and I probably won't watch any book reviews of that series if you do them. On the other hand, I joined the Patreon as soon as I could after you said you would do The Lord of the Rings books, specifically so that I could be part of the book club for those books. They are my favorite, and I think the movies missed the point of the story in a lot of ways. I have been looking forward to seeing you discover, chapter by chapter or a few at a time, what Tolkien actually wrote that Jackson didn't get right. I have been enjoying the Harry Potter reviews in the meantime, and I am willing to wait as long as you need, but I would be hugely disappointed if you didn't get around to doing LotR book clubs eventually, since that was why I joined you in the first place. The Hobbit does need to be read first, before the trilogy. It is also a much easier read than the trilogy, and likely won't have as much discussion around it. The Hobbit is a kids' book, while The Lord of the Rings is meant for teens and adults. So, reading and reviewing The Hobbit at the same time as Harry Potter might be a good idea in itself, but it would not be a good test for doing the trilogy the same way, because the trilogy is much deeper.

Eliina

Please spare yourself from trying to do a LotR book review series.

Unholy Tater

I haven't finished the video but leaving this here. A vote for The Hobbit/LoTR over Hunger Games, personally, but please take care of yourself Veggie! Trialling The Hobbit or not, I'm sure most of us are very patient. This is your channel and you shouldn't ever feel compelled to do something. Always better to do something later and enjoy it than do something now and feel forced or burn out. I haven't been very active here because I didn't get into the Harry Potter book reading (both lack of interest at the time and lots of distractions). I pledge barely anything and I often feel bad about it, because I know all the recording, editing, and community management is a lot of work. I hope I can do more some day soon because you really deserve it. Relax, be healthy, and be happy!

K

I like Lord of the Rings, but I don’t have much interest in a book club for it. Hunger Games I think would be super interesting and I’m excited to hear your thoughts. The Hobbit could be fun, I would probably tune in although I don’t think there’s quite as much to talk about; it is pretty short, so that’s nice in terms of time commitment. At this point I think there are people on Patreon who are keen on all three plus the people who are worried about the idea of HP slowing down. You can’t make everyone happy, don’t burn yourself out trying!

Grace S

The most important thing is you don't burn yourself out and make these reviews a chore for yourself. Take care of yourself first! In my opinion I'd rather see a Hobbit review since there has been less of that type of content lately. I think the Hobbit and the Lord of the rings are well suited for the book club, but there would definitely be different things to talk about as opposed to Harry Potter since it's a different writing style and a different story.

S1lm4r1l

No need to apologise for taking some time to ensure content is good. Good content is better than speedy content. Doing the Hobbit book review would definitely give you a much better idea of how a LOTR book review would work. I'd be very interested in watching a LOTR book review. The problem with a LOTR book review is that the book provides little in the way of concrete answers. There's a lot of nebulous detail that Tolkien explained elsewhere in his works. There's a lot of lore and world-building. A LOTR book review would be very different to a HP book review. I haven't seen or read any of the Hunger Games and have 0 interest in it.

Michael Short

Take whatever time you need mate. :)

Caroline

Don't stress yourself, Veggie! Do everything in your own time. I think most of us here will wait as long as it takes for new content. I'm mainly here for Harry Potter. Any other additional content is even better, but I think we all want you to feel comfortable and have fun and not be worn out by a schedule. The Panem books are written at a speed very similar to the movies. It's a bit different reading experience than HP with much more time invested in action scenes. Of course, you can interpret a lot in everything regarding the characters or story. But some chapters only describe what happens within two hours of the story, so there is not that much plot happening. l also like the little videos in between like the pitch meetings or Hogwarts Legacy. The HP- Bookclub project is going to take a long time and I think it's important not to lose the fun and interest in it. I know some people who started the same project and then gave up by book 4 at the latest because they got sidetracked or too stressed.

Garfnob

i am with the people that think Tolkien's writing stile would not lend itself to a book club of this style. i think Harry Potter work because they are basically mystery books. this mends itself to discussing what you think is going on. adventures all there is to talk about is what you thought if a charioteers actions or how a sequence played out, good for live reaction, not so much for recording after the fact. hunger game books i have not read, but base on the first two movies (all i have see, have heard the general plot of the others) is action and political/social commentary. that makes a fine book, but i do not know how it would work for this kind of book club. if you are going to do 2 book clubs a month my recommendation is to do two Harry Potter ones to get it done faster. then move on to a new book. recommend a poll for what book is next when you are near the end of the existing books

Hairy Pothead

Just to give you my opinion on the LotR books as someone who loves and have read the HP books countless times: I've tried to read the first LotR book several times, but I never managed to get through it. I'm sure they are amazing if you can get through them all, but they are much slower paced than HP. I'm not sure how well it would work for a book club, but I hear The Hobbit is a much easier read so if you start that book I'll join in as a first time reader together with you :)

S1lm4r1l

They're not conventional at all. They're paced very oddly and there are chapters where very little happens. The Hobbit is a much easier and more light-hearted book. It is literally designed as a children's "read one chapter a night" type book.

VeggieGamer

Thanks Garfnob, but I think that would completely criple the Book Club segment. People tend to to need a lot of time to get their comments posted!

Garry (Not Jerry)

I tried reading Lord of the rings once... Page 1: map Chapter 1: long and complicated history of the different hobbit family lineages. ...I gave up. Sorry Tolkien fans, clearly it's not for me! (Come to think of it, maybe Veggie would really enjoy that sort of thing 😆) If the book reviews/club are too exhausting, my opinion is we should look at enforcing the "keep your comments short" rule a bit better! Hobbit is worth a go, I'd be vaguely interested, even though I'm not a Tolkien fan. Hunger games is good, although the movie adaptions are pretty accurate compared to the Harry Potter series, so you're not going to get quite as much extra details, but there's still some good stuff in there!

Garfnob

"People tend to need a lot of time to get their comments posted!" - would make the comment section shorter less work on you :). also would get a better idea of how many people actually ate looking foreword to the book club. i just expect keeping track of two book clubs would be more unnecessary stress on you. i would rather see you have less stress. so, whatever accomplishes that. :)

Hairy Pothead

I agree with enforcing the rules a bit more in the book club. Many comments are way more than the 4-5 sentences recommendation. With how many are posting in it nowadays I think we need to get a bit better at helping Veggie out there.

Garry (Not Jerry)

4-5 sentences? I hardly see any that are less than 20!

H

I hope you don't feel too much pressure about doing something just because you at some point have mentioned that you want to do that thing. You're allowed to change your plans, or delay a plan! I'm sure you've noticed in the HP book club that A LOT of your subscribers really like you, so we don't want you to be stressed, or to get burned out! And as slim said: Good content is better than speedy content, and there's a much better chance for the content to be good if you don't make yourself completely exhausted. We get A LOT of content from you since your HP videos are so long that they're worth at least five-six videos, and you're always making a point about the fact that people can pay as much as they want (/are able to pay), so I definitely don't think you should feel bad about this in any way. Thanks again for all the hours of entertainment, Veggie!

Zachary Wynn

I think that actually would motivate people to be concise and on time if there was a shorter turn around time.

Zachary Wynn

Lord of the rings should be read for enjoyment, not content, given the nature/writing style of them

Ren

Take all the time you need. Being burned out is NO joke. I would know, was recently burned out myself as well and it does take a huge toll on one. Anyway, dont feel bad for any delays/changes etc...your content is amazing, always have been and worth waiting for if you need some time🫶 i dont love just your reactions but you as well, as your HP reactions got me through a very difficult time in my life 🫶 And at last, I know you have soo much content planned and suggestions for movies etc...but I hope you dont mind one nore movie trilogy suggestion. I think I may have mentioned it before or someone else has but at one point whenever you have time and want you should check out The maze runner. Have a lovely Monday!

brittany

yeah they are not really comparable book series. I understand that people are fans of both movie series and that's awesome- I am too! But we have to look at this rationally and be up front about the fact that HP is low-fantasy and LOTR is high-fantasy and that complicates the literature side of things. Tolkien wrote LOTR as a way to use the languages he had created and The Hobbit obviously was a story for his son Christopher. but the fact that the setting of LOTR is a world fully separate from Earth and has distinct cultures/histories/languages etc and they are all fully fleshed out in over 60 years of his writing... that makes it a completely different beast to tackle when reading. I read LOTR and The Silmarillion in 4th/5th Grade and I flew through reading them back then, but I think that as adults we have so much going on in our lives that it can be more difficult to put that much brainpower into focusing in on such lore-heavy content. I sometimes get antsy myself trying to make time/energy to throw myself into it again!

K

One other thought I had, have you considered putting the book club comments through a text to speech instead of reading them aloud yourself? I feel like your voice must get tired going through so many comments, and my understanding is that reading can be pretty tiring for people with dyslexia (apologies if that's not the case!) I wonder if filming the book club segment might be a bit less draining with that approach. The thought just occurred to me and I thought I would mention it.

Jo Winters

I'm not really into fantasy, to be honest. The only exceptions are Dark Materials (have you seen the tv series? it's a trilogy with one book - one season) and Potter. But I'll keep being here anyway, after you finish the Potter books, which are the reason I signed up. Because I like you. You and Yellowjackets are my favourite things to watch at the moment. Btw, does anyone watch Yellowjackets too, here?

Hannah

Take all the time you need Veggie. :) Have you read Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. There's (movies- not very good, tv show and books). Its similar to Harry potter but its about greek mythology. Maybe check it out :)

Katie

I love the His Dark Materials books and the TV show. That was a great adaptation. I'd love to see a book club for that series! I watched the first few episodes of Yellowjackets but couldn't stomach it. I've heard great things about it but maybe it's just not for me

Timfoil

I'm going to try influence you to do a LOTR book club by appealing to your curiosity. You'll only understand why people think you look like Tom Bombadil if you read Fellowship of the Ring and if your read FOTR might as well read the rest

Dobby Delfstoffer

I do feel like 2 book clubs at the same time are a lot, and I don't want you to get burned out. So I think it might be better if you first finish the Potter series before starting a new book club. However, I understand you don't want to wait years with this. Maybe it's an idea to take a bit more time for the Hobbit/Hunger Games reviews and publish them (for example) every 2 months instead of monthly? I'm sure everyone would prefer to wait a bit longer and have you stay sane, rather than burning yourself out. Also, if you push yourself to do too much and you do end up burned out, then you may have to delay the videos anyway, so if you decide on a longer runtime beforehand at least people will know what to expect. I haven't read The Hobbit, and I also haven't read or watched The Hunger Games. I feel like it would make sense to do The Hobbit first, not only because some people may have been waiting for it, but also because it is a relatively short book, while The Hunger Games is an entire series. I did read Lord of the Rings, and I feel like the books are more like a work of art than an enjoyable book. They are masterpieces, but they also got massive boring parts in it that just stretch on forever. It would be cool if you were to do those eventually, but they can be pretty difficult to get through, and I feel like it would be better to start with them after you've finished the Potters (and possibly the Hunger Games). Also, I think Andy Serkis (actor of Gollum) once read the entire Hobbit book on a Youtube stream for charity. I don't know whether it's good quality and whether it's still possible to watch it somewhere, but that could be a fun version to listen to! Don't push yourself too much, we are very patient🙂

Ashley Evers

I do think you could do the Hobbit book club every other month. Just give yourself a little more time for it. Doubling your current book club work seems so extreme. No one could really claim you weren’t doing enough. I think starting with the Hobbit is a good idea. It still won’t give you a perfect idea what LOTR would be like, cause they are so different in tone. LOTR is slower paced and more weighty. Which, might make book clubs easier, as there would be less to discuss per chapter, unless you really get into the weeds 🤣 Are you going to listen to the Andy Serkis audiobook? And yes, How To Train Your Dragon is a book series. It is aimed at younger kids, and very, very different to the movies, but also excellent.

Methanoutput

Hey Veggie, even though i came for the Harry Potter content, i think i would still watch you if you did gardening videos all off the sudden, so whatever way you choose to handle things is fine for me. Hope this helps and take care of yourself :)

Ziro the Hutt

Also because Veggie gets a bit muddled at times, these books could get away from him easily. They are not an easy read. The Hobbit is fine, but LOTR is a lot. Tolkien wrote them as six books and it shows.

ben melv06

Would love a hobbit /lord of the rings book club.

Oona M

I'm commenting on this really late, so I don't know if you will see this but I wanted to write down my thoughts. I personally have no interest in the Hobbit but it would make sense for you to check that out next. I have a lot of appreciation for LOTR and Tolkien's work as a fan of fantasy, and love the story of the series (I have read the books couple of times and do think you should as well in the future!) but I'm not that interested in all the details of the history and worldbuilding of Middle Earth. Honestly, LOTR as a series and its fandom can be pretty intense (I don't mean this in a negative way) and I wouldn't really care for book reviews/club for those books myself. However, I do enjoy your content so I would most likely watch them. As for HG, I have never come across someone doing a review/book club series on those books (I'm sure those exist, but HP and LOTR content is definitely more common), and would love for you to get to them! And of course, as others have pointed out, make sure you don't go overboard and get burnt out for trying to do too much!

Psykotik

If you want a great fantasy book series that is finished I would highly recommend Malazan Book of the Fallen. A Malazan book club with the depth you're doing would be amazing.
